The purpose of this paper is to advance the similarity coefficient method to solve cell formation (CF) problems in two aspects. Firstly, while numerous similarity coefficients have been proposed to incorporate different production factors in literature, a weighted sum formulation is applied to aggregate them into a nonbinary matrix to indicate the dependency strength among machines and parts. This practice allows flexible incorporation of multiple production factors in the resolution of CF problems. Secondly, a two-mode similarity coefficient is applied to simultaneously form machine groups and part families based on the classical framework of hierarchical clustering. This practice not only eliminates the sequential process of grouping machines (or parts) first and then assigning parts (or machines), but also improves the quality of solutions. The proposed clustering method has been tested through twelve literature examples. The results demonstrate that the proposed method can at least yield solutions comparable to the solutions obtained by metaheuristics. It can yield better results in some instances, as well.

Cell formation is to construct machine cells and part families and then dispatch the part families to machine cells. Various cell formation approaches and algorithms have been developed over the years considering various production factors, scenarios and objectives. The results of these different approaches are evaluated based on the several parameters. Most of the studies have considered only either the operation sequence or the alternative routing. Very few of the approaches have proposed for considering both the operation sequence and the alternative routing. Here, a new method for the formation of cell and intracellular machine arrangement which is formulated by considering both the operation sequence and alternative process routings is proposed. The arrangement of machines and parts within the cell follows a specific sequence which is formed with the help of coefficient of similarity. Various parameters such as forward flow, backflow and voids in the cell formation scenarios are considered to evaluate the approach. With the help of these parameters problems from other literatures, which were solved by other methods are evaluated. So as to validate the effectiveness of our proposed approach, five eminent test problems from the previous literature are engaged and the results are compared with the existing method the results clearly display that the proposed approach which that provides superior or equal solution than the existing method.

The identification of part families and machine groups that form the cells is a major step in the development of a cellular manufacturing system. The primary input to cell formation algorithms is the machine-part incidence matrix, which is a binary matrix representing machining requirements of parts in various part families. One common assumption of these cell formation algorithms is that the product mix remains stable over a period of time. In today’s world, the market demand is being shaped by consumers, resulting in a highly volatile market. This has given rise to a class of products characterized by low volume and high variety, which presents engineers with lots of problems and decisions in the early stages of product development. This can have an adverse effect on manufacturing like high investment in new machinery and material handling equipment, long setup times, high tooling costs, increased intercellular movement and excessive scrap which increases the cost without adding any value to the parts. Any change to the product mix results in a change in the machine-part incidence matrix, which may change the part families and machine groups, which form the cells. The manufacturing system needs to be flexible in order to handle large product mix changes. This paper discusses the impact of product mix variations on cellular manufacturing and presents a methodology to incorporate these variations into an existing cellular manufacturing setup.

Processes of the expected spatial socio-economic changes arise as a result of rational planning and continuation of development at regional and local level. A three-tier division ofthe local self-government creates opportunities for engagement of community in the rational planning model and local resource management, as well as usage of production factors; for socio-economic growth and improvement in the quality of life of the residents. The aim of the article is to show the functional structure and role of local government units in formation of regional and local policy toincrease economic growth, while maintaining the environmental protection requirements.

The characteristics of dairy products depend on both the processing technology and the chemical and microbiological characteristics of milk. The milk properties depend themselves on a number of production factors linked to animals (genetic and physiology) or feeding. Some of these factors, the way animal are fed in particular, are increasingly becoming the focus of consumers’ concern. In particular, grass-based diets are sensitive because grass carries a positive image that can be attractive to some, because it may confer special nutritional characteristics to the products and also because grass feeding is part of the basic link between products and their original land which is important in the case of labelled products (Protected Denomination of Origin [PDO]). The aim of this text is to take stock of the recent studies (Coulon et al., 2004), which have studied the effect of grass on the sensory qualities of cheeses and butter. Other dimensions of quality. i.e., health and nutrition, are not investigated.

The activity of the motor transport enterprise OOO BRC "Logistics" is discussed in the article. The process simulation of the research subject was conducted using multiple correlation-regression analysis. For forecasting six resulting and five factor features were selected that characterize the production activity of the research subject. Multiple regression models were constructed linking the resulting features of the functioning of the car-care service with the production factors affecting them. The conducted correlation analysis showed that there is a strong direct connection between the resulting and factor features. Six main resulting features characterizing the production activity of the enterprise based on two scenarios were predicted using regression models constructed during the research. The results of the research made a number of recommendations contributing to the improvement of the financial condition of the enterprise. Using the models obtained as a result of the research will allow the car-care service enterprise to ensure high quality and productivity of all production zones as well as improve the quality of management decisions.
