Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness and feasibility of Managing Cancer and Living Meaningfully (CALM), which is used to reduce chemotherapy-related cognitive impairment (CRCI), relieve psychological distress, and improve quality of life (QOL) in Chinese breast cancer survivors (BCs). Methods: Seventy-four BCs were enrolled in this study. All patients were randomly assigned to either the CALM group or the care as usual (CAU) group. All patients were evaluated by the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy–Cognitive Function (FACT-Cog), Distress Thermometer (DT), and the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy–Breast (FACT-B) before and after CALM or CAU application to BCs with CRCI. We compared the differences in all these scores between the CALM group and the control group and analyzed the correlation between cognitive function and QOL. Results: Compared with the CAU group, the performance of the CALM group on the FACT-Cog, DT, and FACT-B showed significant differences before and after CALM ( t = −18.909, −5.180, −32.421, P = .000, .000, .000, respectively). Finally, there was a positive correlation between cognitive function and QOL in breast cancer patients before ( r = 0.579, P = .000) and after ( r = 0.797, P = .000) treatment. Conclusions: The present results indicated that CALM has salutary effects on the improvement of cognitive impairment and QOL and relieves psychological distress in breast cancer patients, which may be due to a positive correlation between psychological distress and cognitive function or QOL.

Abstract Background: Assessing body image among breast cancer survivors is essential to the development of good treatment and rehabilitation plans. Culturally-appropriate methods and instruments are needed for body image assessment. The aim of this study was to assess the psychometric properties of the Persian version of Body Image after Breast Cancer Questionnaire. Methods: In this methodological study, the Body Image after Breast Cancer Questionnaire was translated into Persian through forward-backward translation. Then, its content validity was assessed by twelve experts, and 400 women with breast cancer completed the questionnaire. The construct validity of the questionnaire was evaluated through exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses and its convergent and discriminant validity were evaluated using Fornell and Larcker’s approach. The reliability of the questionnaire was also evaluated through Cronbach’s alpha, McDonald’s omega, and composite reliability. Results: In exploratory factor analysis, five factors were extracted, namely vulnerability, body stigma, body-related shame, body satisfaction, and physical disability stigma. Confirmatory factor analysis also confirmed the fit of the five-factor model (χ2 = 466.95; N = 241; P < 0.001; PCFI = 0.728; PNFI = 0.624; CMIN/DF = 1.938; RMSEA = 0.068; AGFI = 0.808; IFI = 0.838). Second-order factor analysis also revealed that the subscales of the questionnaire measured an overarching concept which was labeled “Body image stigma”. The questionnaire had acceptable content and convergent validity and composite reliability. Conclusion: The Persian version of Body Image after Breast Cancer Questionnaire measures the broad concept of “Body image stigma”. The Persian BIBCQ has acceptable validity and reliability and hence, can be used for assessing body image among breast cancer survivors. Abstract This study was designed to adapt the Breast Cancer and Lymphedema Symptoms Experience Index (BCLE-SEI) to the Spanish language (BCLE-SEI-Es) and to assess its psychometric properties in Spanish-speaking women diagnosed with breast cancer. 286 breast cancer survivors were recruited. Study measured demographic and medical data and the BCLE-SEI. Reliability was measured using Cronbach’s alpha and test-retest reliability (n = 29) after an interval of two weeks. A robust principal components analysis was conducted to explore the dimensions of each BCLE-SEI-Es subtest. Discriminant power of the BCLE-SEI was assessed through a non-parametric test evaluating score differences between non-lymphedema and lymphedema patients. A cut-off point was established via a ROC curve. Cronbach’s alpha: all scales had a value above 0.9. Test-retest reliability: Correlations between questionnaire administrations were above 0.7. The first and second subtests showed a good fit to a unidimensional and two-factor structure, respectively. Lymphedema patients score significantly higher in all BCLE-SEI scales (p < 0.001). A cut-off point was established to predict a possible lymphedema case. The BCLE-SEI-Es is a valid, reliable tool for assessing and identifying the presence of lymphedema among breast cancer survivors and assessing its impact on the physical, functional, psychological and emotional aspects.
