ABSTRACT Novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) lies behind the ongoing outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). There is a growing understanding of SARS-CoV-2 in virology, epidemiology, and clinical management strategies. However, no anti-SARS-CoV-2 drug or vaccine has been officially approved due to the absence of adequate evidence. Scientists are racing to develop a treatment for COVID-19. Recent studies have revealed many attractive therapeutic options, even if some of them remain to be further confirmed in rigorous preclinical models and clinical trials. In this minireview, we aim to summarize the updated potential approaches against SARS-CoV-2. We emphasize that further efforts are warranted to develop the safest and most effective approach.

Malignant causes of biliary obstruction are often difficult to treat, as these cancers frequently present at late stages. Fortunately, there are now many diagnostic and therapeutic interventional and endoscopic techniques used to facilitate accurate diagnosis and treatment. Diagnostic strategies range from non-invasive imaging to endoscopic fluoroscopy and ultrasound to facilitate biopsy, as well as direct visualization through cholangioscopy. Therapeutic options include biliary stricture dilation, stenting, and drainage both for symptomatic/palliative management and to optimize patients for further medical and surgical management. Management of these patients are best served by a multidisciplinary approach. This chapter will review the currently available techniques for diagnosing and treating malignant biliary obstruction as well as the issues related to clinical management of these complicated patients.

Speech-language evaluation reports from many institutions present age-equivalent scores as the evidence for speech-language deficits. Yet, the value and interpretation of this measurement criterion requires clinical scrutiny. This article reviews the concept and derivation of age-equivalent scores and presents arguments against their use in case management decisions.

The relationship between syllabic structure and segmental development was examined longitudinally in a child with a severe phonological disorder. Six speech samples were collected over a 4-year period (3:5 to 7:3). Analyses revealed gradual increases in the complexity and diversity of the syllable structures produced, and positional preferences for sounds within these forms. With a strong preference for [d] and [n] at the beginning of syllables, other consonants appeared first at the end of syllables. Implications for clinical management of phonological disorders include the need to consider both structural position and structural complexity in assessing segmental skills and in choosing target words for intervention.
