AbstractFive known and one new species of the genus Chiloplacus Thorne, 1937 are studied from natural ecosystems in the SE Iberian Peninsula: C.demani (Thorne, 1925) Thorne, 1937, C. maginensis sp. n., C. minimus (Thorne, 1925) Andrássy, 1959, C. magnus Rashid & Heyns, 1990, C. tenuis Rashid & Heyns, 1990 and C. trilineatus Steiner, 1940. Chiloplacus maginensis sp. n. is characterised by a female body length of 272-345 μm, lateral field starting far anterior near the labial region and with five incisures, lip region with bifurcate labial probolae bearing short prongs, pharyngeal corpus 2.5-3.6 times isthmus length, ovary without flexures posterior to vulva, spermatheca 8-17 μm long, postuterine sac 0.2-0.5 of corresponding body diam. long, female tail conical with rounded terminus (12-20 μm; c´ = 15.0-26.6; c′ = 1.1-1.5), phasmid at 39-48% of tail length. Descriptions, measurements and illustrations, including SEM photographs, are provided for the six species recorded. The diagnosis of Chiloplacus is emended, the nominal species listed and a key provided to those nominal species currently regarded as valid.

AbstractThree new species of the genus Ablechroiulus are described from natural areas in the SE Iberian Peninsula. Ablechroiulus castaneanus sp. n. is characterised by a body length of 0.69-0.80 mm in females and 0.58-0.76 mm in males, lip region offset by a shallow constriction and with six rounded lips bearing setae, stoma 18-20 μm long, metacorpus cylindrical, vulva prominent with high lips, female tail (45-52 μm, c = 12.5-15.6, c′ = 2.5-2.7) divided into two distinct regions, phasmid at base of anterior region of tail, male tail (39-63 μm, c = 12.1-14.8, c′ = 2.6-2.7) with posterior filiform part and acute terminus, bursa leptoderan with nine pairs of papillae (1 + 2 + 1 + 2 + 3), spicules 21-25 μm long and gubernaculum 10-15 μm long. Ablechroiulus querquetulanus sp. n. is characterised by a body length of 1.2-1.5 mm in females and 1.4 mm in male, stoma 24-31 μm long, procorpus 1.5 times longer than metacorpus, female tail filiform (262-318 μm, c = 4.2-4.7, c′ = 9-11), male tail (180-228 μm, c = 6.2-7.8, c′ = 3.8-5.4) with very long posterior filiform part, bursa leptoderan with nine pairs of papillae (1 + 2 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 2) of which papillae 2-3 and 5-6 are fused at base, spicules 63-72 μm long and fused at terminus and gubernaculum 32-46 μm long. Ablechroiulus verminosus sp. n. is characterised by a body length of 0.76-1.10 mm in females and 0.83-0.97 mm in males, lip region with six rounded lips bearing three setae on each side, stoma 18-26 μm long, female tail filiform (88-167 μm, c = 6.6-8.7, c′ = 5.0-7.1), male tail (63-81 μm, c = 11.0-13.3, c′ = 2.7-3.2) with posterior filiform part, bursa leptoderan with nine pairs of papillae (1 + 2 + 1 + 2 + 3) of which papillae 5-6 are fused at base, spicules 29-42 μm long, and gubernaculum 10-24 μm long. SEM pictures are provided for A. verminosus sp. n. An identification key to species of the genus as well as a tabular compendium are also provided.

A new genus of Panagrolaimidae, together with three new species, is proposed based on morphological, morphometric and molecular studies. Baldwinema n. gen. is unique in the Tylenchina by a combination of the following characters: having valvular median bulb, no valve in terminal pharyngeal bulb and absence of stylet. It is further characterised by cylindrical body, thin and finely annulated cuticle, lateral field with two lines (forming a single plain band), fused lips, small longitudinal amphidial openings located on lateral lips, lip region without labial probolae, with six inner and six outer labial and four cephalic papillae (as seen using SEM images), stoma aberrant, cheilostom and gymnostom of equal length, cheilostom with thin wall, gymnostom with clear and thick wall, and stegostom beginning with a tubular thin wall and ending with a thicker wall. Baldwinema ilamense n. gen., n. sp., the type, is characterised by its short post-vulval uterine sac of 7.7 (6.0-9.0) μm long, female tail length of 147 (120-175) μm, shape of gubernaculum, and arrangement of male genital papillae; B. ardabilense n. gen., n. sp. by its short post-vulval uterine sac of 11.5 (9.0-15.0) μm, female tail length of 150 (136-169) μm, shape of gubernaculum, and arrangement of male genital papillae; and B. golestanense n. gen., n. sp. by its long post-vulval uterine sac of 16 (13-21) μm, female tail length of 200 (174-220) μm, shape of gubernaculum, and arrangement of male genital papillae. Phylogenetic analyses based on sequences of the small subunit (SSU) ribosomal RNA gene showed that the new genus is nested within the Panagrolaimidae. However, LSU data did not demonstrate monophyly of the Panagrolaimidae.

AbstractA new species of the genus Cephalobus is described from natural areas in the south-eastern Iberian Peninsula. Cephalobus harpagonis sp. n. is characterised by female body length of 0.38-0.47 mm, lips amalgamated in pairs, labial probolae present as low ridges connecting tips of adjacent lips, ovary lacking flexures, spermatheca 11-12 μm long, postuterine sac very short (0.3-0.4 times corresponding body diam.), female tail conical or subcylindrical (22-31 μm, c = 13.2-17.1, c′ = 1.7-2.5) and ending in a tuberculate, often harpoon-like, mucro. Descriptions, measurements and illustrations, including SEM photographs, are also provided for C. persegnis and C. troglophilus from Spain. An identification key to Cephalobus species and a compendium of their measurements are also provided.

The genus Scutylenchus Jairajpuri 1971 (Nematoda: Tylenchida) is reviewed, and a compendium of the most importantdiagnostic characters with a key to the species are given. A new species, Scutylenchus dongtingensis n. sp., is describedfrom China, extracted from rhizosphere soil around grass near Dongting Lake in Hunan province. The new species ischaracterized by having body cuticle with 16–20 longitudinal striae forming blocks; lateral field with 6 incisures forming5 bands without areolation or any other decoration; a slightly offset head with 7 striae; slender stylet 22–25μm long, withcone about three fifths of stylet length; excretory pore inconspicuous under light microscope, located in region of anteriorpart of gland bulb in lateral view; female vulva slit transverse with small epiptygma in lateral view; conspicuous dot-likephasmid located at about one third of tail length posterior to anus; female tail subcylindrical, terminus round, annulated,terminal cuticle thickened; spicule slender, well developed, 27–32μm long, usually not protruded from cloaca;gubernaculum crescent-shaped, may be protruded from cloaca; bursa conspicuous, extending over tail terminus in ventral view.

A new species of the genus Myolaimus is described from agricultural areas in the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula. Myolaimus ibericus sp. n. is characterized by its 560–783 μm long body in females and 526–731 μm in males, cuticle often appearing swollen and baggy, lateral field with one longitudinal wing, lip region with six amalgamated lips having ten (6 + 4) setiform papillae, stoma consisting of a wider anterior chamber (cheilo-gymnostom) and a tubular posterior part (stegostom) separated by a well developed dorsal tooth and two small, lateral (one right and another left) teeth, glottoid-like apparatus structure appearing at metastom, pharyngeal corpus 1.7–2.6 times the isthmus length, excretory pore and deirids located at metacorpus level, deirids pore-like in females and seta-like in males, female reproductive system monodelphic-prodelphic with antidromous ovary, post-uterine sac 1.7–2.7 times the corresponding body diameter long, V = 50–56, female rectum 1.3–2.0 times the anal body diameter long, female tail conical-elongate (54–70 μm, c = 9.9–13.1, c’ = 4.4–5.8) often enveloped by the baggy cuticle, male tail conoid (8–10 μm, c = 58.4–73.1, c’ = 1.1-1.4) and ventrally constricted at its middle, bursal structure with seven (4+1+2) pairs of genital papillae. This is the first record of the genus from the Iberian Peninsula. Description, measurements and illustrations, including SEM photographs are provided. An illustrated compendium of the posterior ends of males in Myolaimus species is also presented.

AbstractThree species of the family Panagrolaimidae are described from mainly natural areas in Tehran province, Iran and a new species of the genus Halicephalobus is described and a key to species identification provided. Halicephalobus persicus sp. n. is characterised by a body length of 204-246 μm long in females, lateral field with two incisures, lip region with six flat, slightly separated, lips, pharynx with swollen bulb-shaped metacorpus, pharyngeal corpus 2.5-2.6 times isthmus length, female tail subcylindrical with fine mucro (40-53 μm; c = 4.4-5.2; c&#8242 = 6.9-12.3). Iranian populations of three other previously known species were studied, viz. Propanagrolaimus hygrophilus, Panagrolaimus dendroctoni and P. rigidus, all being reported from Iran for the first time. The species are described, measured and figured.

A new species of the genus Nothotylenchus, N. persicus n. sp. was collected around the roots of grapevine and is described and illustrated herein based on morphological and molecular studies. The new species is characterised by a body length of 776-900 μm, delicate stylet 5-6 μm long, six lines in the lateral field, post-vulval uterine sac short, 10-18 μm long, female tail elongate-conoid with pointed terminus, and bursa covering 40-45% of tail length. Morphologically, N. persicus n. sp. appears closer to four known species of the genus, namely: N. hexaglyphus, N. affinis, N. medians and N. taylori. The results of phylogenetic analyses based on sequences of D2-D3 expansion region of 28S rRNA gene confirmed the close molecular relationship between N. persicus n. sp. and other anguinids, but Nothotylenchus claded separately from Ditylenchus species.

Abstract Bursaphelenchus chengi sp. n. is described and illustrated. Dauer juveniles were isolated from imported wood packaging materials from Taiwan to Nanjing Port, China. Bursaphelenchus chengi sp. n. was reared and maintained on Petri dish cultures of the fungus Botrytis cinerea. The new species is characterised by the medium body size in both sexes, the presence of only two incisures in the lateral field and the robust and strongly curved spicules. The spicule lamina is angular distally, the rostrum digitate and the condylus rounded. The tail is arcuate with a pointed terminus. The bursa is usually truncate with the posterior margin indented in some specimens or rounded with a fine axial point. Females have a small vulval flap formed by a short extension of the cuticle of the anterior lip, and a conical tail that gradually tapers to an almost straight or slightly recurved, pointed or rounded terminus. Because of the presence of two lateral lines, similar spicule shape, tapering female tail and the presence of a small vulval flap, B. chengi sp. n. should be grouped in the abietinus-group sensu Braasch. together with B. abietinus, B. antoniae, B. hellenicus, B. hylobianum and B. rainulfi. ITS-RFLP profiles support the proposal of the new species, and phylogenetic analysis of the 28S rDNA D2/D3 domain sequence places it close to B. antoniae and other species of the abietinus-group.
