Genista Linnaeus (1753: 709) is a large genus of spiny and non-spiny shrubs including over 90 species, mainly distributed in the Mediterranean region but also represented throughout most of western and central Europe, and extending to the southeast of the former USSR, Turkey, Syria and North Africa. The genus is usually arranged into three subgenera and 10 sections (Gibbs 1966, 1968). Among these, Genista subg. Spartocarpus Spach (1844: 240) is widespread in the Balkan Peninsula and the eastern Mediterranean, but has a secondary centre in the Balearic Islands, Sardinia, Sicily, north Africa, and southern Spain (Pardo et al. 2004). According to the most recent generic revision (Gibbs 1966), G. subg. Spartocarpus includes four sections: sect. Spartocarpus, sect. Acanthospartum Spach (1844: 247), sect. Fasselospartum Gibbs (1966: 20) and sect. Cephalospartum Spach (1844: 254).

The Eastern Mediterranean Region of Turkey and Crete Island in Greece are richest in species of the genus Eupholidoptera with ten and eleven reported species, respectively. One additional new species, E. gocmeni sp. nov., from the first region is described and compared with its relatives.

A new species of amphipod, Bathyporeia watkini sp. nov. from the Atlantic coasts of North Africa is described. This very characteristic species is abundant in some lagoons and estuaries near 28°N. New morphological information on B. elkaimi d’Udekem d’Acoz and Menioui, 2004 is given after specimens that were recently collected on the Atlantic coasts of southern Spain and South Portugal. The male of B. ledoyeri d’Udekem d’Acoz and Menioui, 2004 is described for the first time and new records of North African B. guilliamsoniana (Bate, 1857) and B. chevreuxi d'Udekem d'Acoz and Vader, 2005a are discussed.

Stellaria ruderalis is an annual (semi)ruderal species from the S. media group, which has been recently published by Lepší et al., therefore, its distribution range in Europe is insufficiently known. This paper is based on field exploration of 39 localities of S. media s.l. in the Lviv region, Western Ukraine. The first report of S. ruderalis in Ukraine comes from Dmytre village, where it grows at roadsides and arable field edges in a semiruderal habitat of the alliance Aegopodion podagrariae. As only a single population was found, Stellaria ruderalis is obviously still spreading in Western Ukraine, a fact which was reported already for northern Central Europe. This record represents the northeasternmost locality of the species so far known.

AbstractAllothrombium clavatum sp. n. with reduced inner claw of tarus III, one seta on coxa II, clavate dorsal idiosomal setae and 3-lobed posterior margin of scutum, collected as ectoparasite of an undetermined aphid, is described and illustrated from the central part of Montenegro (Balkan Peninsula). A key to world species of Allothrombium (larva) is presented.

Allium kyrenium, a new species of Allium sect. Codonoprasum, is described and illustrated from northern Cyprus. It is a very circumscribed geophyte growing on the calcareous cliffs of the Kyrenia range. This diploid species, with a somatic chromosome number 2n = 16, shows close morphological relationships with A. stamineum, a species complex distributed in the eastern Mediterranean area. Its morphology, karyology, leaf anatomy, ecology, conservation status and taxonomical relationships with the allied species belonging to the A. stamineum group are examined.

The genus Ludioctenus Fairmaire, 1893 hitherto included only L. cyprius (Baudi di Selve, 1871) from the eastern Mediterranean and L. pakistanicus Schimmel & Tarnawski, 2012 from Pakistan. Here, we describe L. afghanicus sp. nov. from the Nuristan Province in eastern Afghanistan. The distribution and morphological diversity of Ludioctenus is discussed, main diagnostic characters for all species are figured, and an identification key to the species of this genus is provided. Female pregenital segments and genitalia are figured for the first time for Ludioctenus, and the systematic position of this genus and its relatives is discussed.
