Taraxacum sandomiriense Wolanin, a new species of Taraxacum sect. Erythrosperma from Poland is described. It is a triploid (2n=24) characterized by strongly corniculated inner bracts, brown-colored achenes and distinctly haired leaves. It is an extremely rare taxon found in the xerothermic plant communities in the Świętokrzyskie Province. The species conservation assessment for T. sandomiriense determines its threat status as Critically Endangered, since it consists of three populations with a very small number of individuals. A detailed species description, photographs, distribution map, notes on ecology and chorology are provided.

Rubus zielinskii M. M. Wolanin & M. N. Wolanin, a new species from south-east Poland is described and illustrated. Rubus zielinskii is a tetraploid (2n=28) belonging to the series Sprengeliani based on morphology. It is most similar to Rubus sprengelii from which it differs in the inflorescence, being leafy to the apex, the larger flowers, paler colour of the vegetative stem and straighter prickles. The species occurs mostly along forest roads, ditches and forest edges. A species conservation assessment for Rubus zielinskii determines its threat status to be Least Concern.

Pternopetalum paucifoliolatum, a new species from Sixigou Scenic Area, Emeishan City, Sichuan Province, is proposed and described. Diagnostic morphological characters, full description, detailed illustrations, and a distribution map are provided. The new species is similar to P. porphyronotum in possessing the 1-pinnate leaves and the abaxially purple-red leaflets, but differs from the latter by shorter stature, fewer leaflets ((1–) 3–7) and rays (5–8), the leaflet margin white-ciliate. The new species, which is assessed as Critically Endangered (CR), was only found on limestone cliffs. We also provide a new key to the species of Pternopetalum.

Abstract - Populations of herbaceous periwinkle, Vinca herbacea Waldst. et Kit., were found on April 2007 on Bansko Hill (Baranja, Croatia), which lies on the south-western edge of the range of this Pontic-Pannonian species. Since V. herbacea was included neither in the handbooks for plant identification nor in the current Croatian Flora Database, a new key for the determination of Vinca L. species of Croatia is presented herein. The herbaceous periwinkle should be treated as a critically endangered (CR) species in Croatia, considering the low number of individuals and the small extent of its occurrence in extremely rare habitats at the margin of its distribution. New recordings of some very rare or »data deficient « (DD) taxa of Croatia are also presented here: Scorzonera hispanica L. and Inula germanica L.

Myrcia amplifolia, a new species from the coastal forest of southern Bahia, eastern Brazil, is here described and compared with morphologically similar species. Additionally, a morphological plate, distribution map and conservation assessment of the species are presented. We assign the new species to Myrcia sect. Calyptranthes with a reasonable reliability due to the combination: presence of cataphylls, inflorescences sympodially branching at the base and calyptrate flowers. Myrcia amplifolia seems to be closely related to M. carioca, from which it can be distinguished through the leaf blades strongly coriaceous (vs. chartaceous in M. carioca), leaf venation very slightly raised and barely conspicuous abaxially (vs. venation strongly raised and conspicuous abaxially), inflorescences with a shorter main axis (75–110 mm long vs. 130–270 mm long), and shorter first lateral branch (3.3–19 mm long vs. 48–95 mm long), and the calyptra acuminate (vs. rounded or shortly apiculate). It is also similar to M. boanova, differing by the leaf blades significantly larger (31–60 × 10–20 cm vs. 7–13 × 4.1–5 cm in M. boanova) and strongly coriaceous (vs. chartaceous), and the calyptra acuminate (vs. rounded) and smaller (2.3–2.6 × ca. 1.8 mm vs. 3.5–3.7 × 3.5–4 mm).

Stylotrichium is a small genus in which all the five species are restricted to the rocky field vegetation (campo rupestre) in Chapada Diamantina, Bahia state, Brazil. From recent field collections in the area we have recognized a new species based on morphology. Stylotrichium hortensiae is distinguished by laminae oblanceolate to oblong (3.5–8 × 1–3 cm), greater number of flowers (35–45), anther connective appendage as long as wide, style 6.5 mm long, and pappus 1–1.5 mm long. A species description, illustrations, a key to the species, comments, and a distribution map are provided.

A new species of Pentanema, P. kurdistanicum is described and illustrated from Kurdistan, west of Iran. The new species was found scattered among rocks in the subalpine zone of S Marivan, in a low number of individuals. The new species is compared with the nearest allies, P. flexuosum and P. prasinurum. The phytochoria, morphological characters, ecology, conservation status, distribution map and phenology of the new species are presented.

Pilea nonggangensis Y. G. Wei, L. F. Fu & A. K. Monro, a new species from Guangxi, China is described and illustrated. The new species is morphologically most similar to P. basicordata from which it differs by being dioecious, having peltate leaf blades, membranous stipules, paired inflorescences and larger bracts. Nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region and plastid trnL-F intron spacer (trnL-F) DNA sequence data from the new species and 20 local congeneric species are used to resolve the systematic position of the new species within Pilea. Despite vastly different morphology the molecular evidence suggests that P. nonggangensis is most closely related to P. pseudonotata. A Global Species Conservation Assessment classifies P. nonggangensis as Vulnerable (VU).

Here we describe a new species of Pisonia (Caryophyllales: Nyctaginaceae) from Jamaica, named P. jamaicensis Proctor ex Caraballo, K.Campbell, & S.Cross, restricted to limestone hills in the central and western part of the island. The species description is complemented with an illustration, pictures, a distribution map, and notes on its biology and conservation, including an IUCN evaluation. We also present a list of the 27 currently accepted species of Pisonia with their general distributions, and a key to separate the 16 taxa reported for the West Indies.

A new species of Tradescantia sect. Austrotradescantia endemic to rocky cliffs in Southern Brazil, is here described as Tradescantia seubertiana. This new species is characterized as being completely glabrous, with a leaf base obtuse to cordate to slightly amplexicaulous, ellipsoid flower buds, by its light-pink to pink petals, and for growing in wet rocky cliffs. The new species is morphologically most similar to T. crassula due to its erect habit, conduplicate to canaliculate, succulent leaves, with inconspicuous secondary veins, non-saccate cincinni bracts, pistil longer than the stamens and hilum longer than ½ the length of the seed. I present a description, an illustration, a distribution map, habitat description, and a conservation assessment for the new species. I also present a comparison and identification key for the species related to T. seubertiana.

Vicia mingyueshanensis, a new species from the Mingyue Mountain Region of western Jiangxi, China, is described and illustrated. It is a perennial climbing liana that always links to riparian woods. A morphological comparison indicated that the new species is closely similar to Vicia taipaica K. T. Fu and Vicia dichroantha Diels; however, it differs from the other two species by several salient characters, such as plant indumentum, stipule shape, corolla colour, bractlet shape and calyx shape. Photographs, a preliminary conservation assessment, table of morphological characters and distribution map comparing this new species to two morphologically-similar species are also provided.
