AbstractA new species, Heterota sunjaei Park and Ahn sp. nov. (type locality: Geumgab Beach, Jindo, Jeonnam Province, Korea), is described from Korea. The new species is compared with the related species H. plumbea (Waterhouse) and H. arenaria Cameron and the differences are summarized. An illustration of the habitus and line drawings of diagnostic characters are presented. An annotated world catalog of the genus Heterota Mulsant and Rey is provided.

AbstractAhnea keejeongi Park and Carlton (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Pselaphinae), a new genus and new species of New Zealand endemic beetle belonging to the supertribe Faronitae is described. Six previously described species are included to this genus and four species are synonymised as follow: Sagola dissonans Broun, 1921 and S. planicula Broun, 1921 under Ahnea ventralis (Broun, 1912); S. carinata Broun, 1912 and S. lineiceps Broun, 1921 under Ahnea lineata (Broun, 1893). A key to species, habitus photographs, line drawings of diagnostic characters, and distribution maps are provided.

Liolaemus dorbignyi is re-described, and its type locality restricted to the Sierra de Fiambalá, Catamarca Province, Argentina. Also, Liolaemus scrocchii sp. nov., a new species of Liolaemus belonging to the L. montanus series, previously confused with L. dorbignyi , is described. This new species inhabits the phytogeographic region of Puna in Argentina at 3500 m. and is distributed in Jujuy and northwestern Salta provinces. Diagnostic characters include the color pattern, (composed of transverse paravertebral spots, that are band shaped and never reach the lateral region, and never contact the vertebral zone), and the number of scales around midbody. Several populations from different localities were considered L. dorbignyi because of their color pattern and squamation. Even though part of this confusion is clarified in this contribution, some populations still require further study.

The staphylinid tribe Lomechusini is known for the diverse associations with ants or termites. A new species of rove beetle belonging to Zyras (Diaulaconia) is found to be associated with the fungus-growing termite, Odontotermes formosanus (Shiraki, 1909), and is showing meticulous predatory behavior. In the present study, this species is described as Zyras (Diaulaconia) artemis Liang, Maruyama & Li, sp. n. Its assignment to the subgenus Diaulaconia is based on the comparison of female spermatheca, male aedeagus, and male secondary characters. The habitus photographs and the line drawings of diagnostic characters and their variations are provided. The current knowledge about the taxonomy, phylogeny, and ecology of Diaulaconia is discussed. The checklist of Diaulaconia species of Taiwan is updated.

Three new species of the genus Gyrophaena Mannerheim are described from Korea: Gyrophaena ashei new species (type locality – Mt. Odaesan, Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon Prov., Korea), G. naejangsanensis new species (type locality – Mt. Naejangsan, Jeongeup-city, Jeonbuk Prov., Korea), and G. tubula new species (type locality – Mt. Gaebangsan, Hongcheon-gun, Gangwon Prov., Korea). The types and paratypes of the new species are designated. Similarities and differences among Korean Gyrophaena species are discussed. The habitus is illustrated, with line drawings of diagnostic characters.

AbstractA new species of carabid beetles, Pterostichus hejkali sp. n. is described from Northwest Greece (type locality: Epirus District, Ioannina Prefecture, Ioannina Lake environs). Diagnostic characters include distinctive shape of the median lobe of aedeagus, of right paramere and of sexual modification on last visible sternum in males as well as shape of pronotum and size of body. Members of the new species are most similar to P. minor. A key to the identification of the Balkan taxa of Pseudomaseus is presented.

A new species was recently described to the akodontine genus Deltamys Thomas, 1917, based on animals collected in Araucaria forest, Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil. Quintela et al. (2017) described Deltamys araucaria on the basis of the integration of morphological, chromosomal, and molecular characters analysis. Here I correct and/or emend critical aspects of this paper, including the type locality, diagnostic characters, and the appropriate recognition of earlier literature on this same taxon. My aim in this note is not to criticize this important new contribution but to facilitate future communication among researchers.

A new species, Duvalius karaormanicus sp. n., in the subgenus Euduvalius, is described from the type locality: Mlečnik cave in the Karaorman Mountain in the south-western part of the Republic of Macedonia. This is the second cave-dwelling Duvalius and the sixth representative of the genus so far recorded from the Republic of Macedonia. Based on its diagnostic characters, the new species is found to be related to the species in the “gogalai” and “petroclzilosi” groups. D. karaormanicus sp. n. occupies an intermediate position between the species from these two groups and is therefore placed in a separate “karaormanicus” species group.
