Ten new species of the genus Klinckowstroemia are described from passalid beetles (Coleoptera: Passalidae) collected in eastern and southern Mexico. The new species are Klinckowstroemia bifurcata sp. nov., K. hunteri sp. nov., K. valdezi sp. nov., K. montanoi sp. nov., K. brevimarginata sp. nov., K. rectimarginata sp. nov., K. franckei sp. nov., K. santibanezi sp. nov., K. ballesterosi sp. nov. and K. cristinae sp. nov. In some cases two species of Klinckowstroemia occurred on a single individual beetle and in one case an individual specimen of Odontotaenius zodiacus carried three species of mites: K. hunteri, K. bifurcata and K. valdezi. Eleven species of passalid beetles are new hosts for Klinckowstroemia. The beetle species associated with the most species of mites was Odontotaenius zodiacus, with six species; the other beetle species carried one or two mite species each. Mites were found in three areas of the passalid’s body: the coxae, the mesoepisternum and the humeri. Some species of Klinckowstroemia were found on more than one host species: K. valdezi and K. santibanezi were associated with four and three species of passalids respectively. This work increases the number of described species of the genus Klinckowstroemia from 14 to 24 species. The number of species of passalid beetles associated with this mite genus increased from 22 to 33.

AbstractTaxonomic notes on the species of Achrysocharoides Girault occurring in Sweden are presented. A. cruentus n.sp. is described from female material only and ♂ ♀A. buekkensis (Erdös) is redescribed. The other species are compared to British material which has been dealt with in two recent papers (Askew & Ruse 1974; Bryan 1980). The keys of these works are supplemented with A. cruentus and A. buekkensis. Lectotypes are designated for Derostenus chrysostomus Thomson and D. niveipes Thomson. Eleven species are reported from Sweden, 9 of which are new to the country. From Hungary 14 species so far are recorded: A. acerianus (Askew), A. butus (Walker) and A. splendens (Delucchi) are reported for the first time. Host and host-plants are presented for each species. Two new hosts are reported for A. splendens: Parornix avellanella on Corylus avellana and Lithocolletis schreberella on Ulmus.

AbstractSix fur-mite species of the genus Prolistrophorus Fain, 1970 (Acariformes: Listrophoridae) were recorded from Central and South American rodents of the subfamily Sigmodontinae (Rodentia: Cricetidae). Among them, Prolistrophorus (Aprolistrophorus) parabidentatus sp. nov. from Akodon azarae from Argentina and Prolistrophorus (Aprolistrophorus) tylomys sp. nov. from Tylomys nudicaudus from Guatemala are described as new for science. New hosts are recorded for the following species: Prolistrophorus (Prolistrophorus) grassii (Radford, 1954) from Zygodontomys brevicauda from Colombia, P. (P.) frontalis (Hirst, 1921) from Oligoryzomys sp. from Argentina, P. (P.) argentinus (Hirst, 1921) from Melanomys caliginosus, Akodon affinis from Colombia and Scapteromys aquaticus from Argentina, Prolistrophorus (Beprolistrophorus) hirstianus Fain, 1973 from Scapteromys aquaticus from Argentina.

A new species of the neotenic flat mite genus Larvacarus Baker and Pritchard, 1952 (Acariformes: Tetranychoidea: Tenuipalpidae), Larvacarus iranicus sp. nov., is described from females collected from Astragalus sp. (Fabaceae) in Iran (Kerman Province). This is the second report of this genus in the world. The relationships of Larvacarus with other flat mite genera, including the other larviform species in the genera Raoiellana Baker and Tuttle, 1972 and Phytoptipalpus Trägårdh, 1904 are discussed.

This is the first record of the genus Ljania Thor, 1898 (Axonopsinae, Aturidae, Hydrachnidiae, Acari) from China. Two new species, Ljania jini sp. nov. and Ljania guangxiensis sp. nov., are described from Guangxi Province, P. R. China. The new detections bring the total number of Chinese aturid mites to eleven species, representing seven genera.

A previously unknown bark beetle species, Cryphalus eriobotryae sp. nov. Johnson, 2019 has emerged as a lethal pest of loquat (Eriobotrya japonica) in China. The description of new species has been provided. The new species is distinguished from the other Cryphalus by the weakly aciculate frons, by the antennae, with unevenly spaced procurved sutures, by the short pronotal disc, with hair-like setae, and by the widely spaced mesocoxae. The survey of plantation records from around Suzhou suggests that this beetle was introduced from another area not long before 2017. In the surveyed loquat plantation in 2018, 20–90% of trees showed signs of infestation, and 5% were killed in 2018, resulting in the death of over 1000 trees. Outbreaks of the apparently loquat-specific Cryphalus eriobotryae can be diagnosed by hundreds of cankers on the trunk, and wilted foliage. This pest is of concern as a loquat plantation pest and as a pest of fruit production and ornamental trees within Suzhou, and globally.

AbstractSpecies of the oribatid mite genus Tegeocranellus from North and Central America are discussed, and immatures are described for the first time. Six new species are described and keyed: Tegeocranellus alas from Costa Rica, T. barbarae from Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida, T. kethleyi from Alabama and Mississippi, T. mississippii from Louisiana and Texas, T. muscorum known from Ontario to Florida, and T. mediolamellatus from Guatemala. Descriptions of T. alas, T. barbarae, T. mediolamellatus, and T. muscorum are based on adults and immatures, and those of the other two species on adults only. I expand the generic diagnosis to include information on the apheredermous, plicate immatures, and present a character analysis hypothesizing that the monogeneric family Tegeocranellidae is a member of the Ameronothroidea, closely related to Selenoribatidae and Fortuyniidae.

The identification of species of Rhipicephalus is likely to give more trouble than is the case with any other genus of Ixodidae, for while, on the one hand, there are few species which depart greatly from the general type, on the other hand the range of variation within the species is extremely great. In no genus is it so dangerous to describe a new species from a single individual, especially if the specimen be a female.

AbstractA new feather mite species, Tyrannidectes pteroptochi sp. n. (Astigmata: Proctophyllodidae: Pterodectinae), is described from the Moustached Turca Pteroptochos megapodius Kittlitz, 1830 (Passeriformes: Rhinocryptidae) in Chile. This is the first record of mites of the genus Tyrannidectes Mironov 2008 from this family of passerines. Tyrannidectes pteroptochi is clearly distinguished from all previously known Tyrannidectes species by having several unique features in females: whip-like hysteronotal macrosetae h2, hysteronotal setae h3 exceeding the length of the terminal appendages, and spiculiform pseudanal setae ps2 and ps3. A brief review of taxonomic works on the Tyrannidectes is provided.

AbstractA new soil mite species, Quadroppia (Coronoquadroppia) sezeki sp. n., is described. Adult mites were recorded from moss under a pine tree from a pine forest. The new species differs from the other species of the subgenus by bearing epimera III+IV with a wide key hole shaped inner border and the shape of frontal appendage of rostrum. The morphological features of the new species are also compared with those present in closely related species.
