This paper deals with a collection of epigean water mites from southern Iran. One new genus, Iranobates, and three new species are described: Iranobates hesabii, Arrenurus iranicus and A. kermanensis. The following species are reported for the first time for Iran: Limnesia pinguipalpis Cook, 1967, Atractides omanensis Smit & Pešić, 2010, Neumania indentata Smit & Pešić 2010, and N. maharashtris Cook, 1967.

This paper deals with a collection of epigean and hypogean water mites from the Hormozgan and Sistan va Baluchestan prov-inces in southern Iran. One new genus, Haloaxonopsis, is described, characterized by the presence of so-called wheel-likeacetabula, a unique character so far known only in marine mites of the family Pontarachnidae. One new subgenus, Halolimne-sia, and fourteen new species are described: Hydrachna sistanica, Nilotonia hormozgana, Torrenticola asadiae, T. hormozgan-ensis, Monatractides martini, Neoatractides calidus, Limnesia diversipes, Atractides hormozganus, Javalbia persica,Axonopsis gloeeri, A. interstitialis, A. hyporheica, Haloaxonopsis salina and Albia hyporheica. The first descriptions of thefemale are given for Neumania cf. maharashtris Cook, 1967 and Arrenurus bharatensis Cook, 1967. The following species arereported for the first time in Iran: Hydrachna cf. vaillanti K. Viets 1951, H. globosa lacerata Lundblad, 1969, Diplodontus sil-vestrii (Daday, 1898), Hygrobates hamatus K. Viets, 1935, Atractides biscutatus Cook, 1967 and Arrenurus bharatensis Cook,1967. The zoogeographical and ecological characteristics of the water mite fauna of southern Iran are discussed. The fauna ofSE Iran is of Oriental character, and no typical Palaearctic species were found. Our study shows that this fauna is not transitional, suggesting a rather ‘sharp’ boundary between the Palaearctic and Oriental regions in southern Iran.

During surveys of a variety of groundwater, spring and interstitial habitats (e.g. in river bars, domestic wells, springs, and seeps) in Shiga Prefecture, Japan, a total of 15 ostracod species were recovered and identified. Three species and one genus are described for the first time herein, Undulacandona spinula n. gen & n. sp., Cryptocandona tsukagoshii n. sp. and Cavernocypris cavernosa n. sp.. Microdarwinula zimmeri (Menzel, 1916) is reported for the first time from Japan. Dolerocypris ikeyai Smith & Kamiya, 2006, Eucypris pigra (Fischer, 1851) and Cryptocandona brehmi (Klie, 1934) are new records for Shiga Prefecture.

Water mites from Southern Argentinean streams, from Neuquén Province in the north to Tierra del Fuego Province in the south, were examined. One new genus is described, viz. Andesobates as well as three new species, viz. Anisitsiellides australis, Protolimnesia (Protolimnesia) pampaensis and Andesobates longipalpis. New observations are made for a number of other species, some of these new records representing a considerable range extension. Finally, additional illustrations are provided for Protolimnesia longa Besch.

Three new species and one new genus are described: Psyrassa lisitskyi sp. nov., from Peru (Elaphidiini); Ophtalmibidion antonkozlovi sp. nov., from Colombia (Neoibidionini); and Nappella gen. nov., is proposed to N. antonkozlovi sp. nov., from Peru (Calliini). Epectasis mexicana Breuning, 1954 is redescribed, and figured for the first time, and recorded for Colombia. Psyrassa lisitskyi is included in a modified couplet from a previous key. A key to species of Ophtalmibidion and genera of Calliini are provided. Chorenta biramiguelus is recorded for Peru.

AbstractMorphological, life history, and distributional data are presented for North American species of the subgenus Stygomomonia (sensu stricto) Szalay, 1943. Adults of the seven previously recognized species are redescribed, and deutonymphs of five of these species are described for the first time. Two species, S. (s.s.) neomexicana Cook and S. (s.s.) occidentalis Cook are substantially revised on the basis of an examination of the types and extensive series of newly collected specimens. Three new species are described, S. (s.s.) californiensis on the basis of deutonymphs and adults, and S. (s.s.) imamurai and S. (s.s.) cooki on the basis of adults. A new diagnosis of the subgenus is proposed and discussed, the relationships of the various species are discussed, and a key to deutonymphs and adults of North American species is presented. New distributional data are presented for all species, and dispersal patterns from Pleistocene refugia are discussed.

The family Anthomyzidae (Diptera: Acalyptrata) is recorded from China for the first time based on 11 species, 6 of them new to science. A distinctive new genus Marshallya gen. nov. is described, based on single peculiar species, M. platythorax sp. nov. (both sexes) from Sichuan. Other new species, viz. Amygdalops sevciki sp. nov. (Hainan I.) (both sexes), Epischnomyia tkoci sp. nov. (Sichuan) (male only), Anthomyza ornata sp. nov. (Sichuan) (female only), Anthomyza sulphurea sp. nov. (Yunnan) (both sexes) and Arganthomyza hyperseta sp. nov. (Shaanxi) (male only) are described and illustrated in detail. Male-female association of two Amygdalops species is clarified by means of molecular barcoding and the female of A. bisinus Roháček, 2008 is correctly identifi ed and described. Relationships of all these taxa are discussed. Five species, viz. Amygdalops bisinus (Hainan I.), Epischnomyia merzi Roháček, 2009, Anthomyza cuneata Roháček, 1987, Anthomyza trifurca Sueyoshi & Roháček, 2003 (all from Sichuan) and Arganthomyza versitheca Roháček, 2009 (Shaanxi, Sichuan) are new additions to the Chinese fauna of Anthomyzidae. DNA sequences of the barcoding region of COI have been obtained for 3 species, Amygdalops bisinus, Amygdalops sevciki and Marshallya platythorax. Biology and distribution of all 11 species are discussed. First photographs of living Anthomyzidae from East Asia are presented. Based on knowledge of Anthomyzidae from neighbouring areas the diversity of the Chinese fauna of the family is estimated to include 50-60 species.

As a contribution to knowledge of the aquatic beetles of the Neotropical Region, the genus Berosus Leach is recorded for the first time from Roraima State in northern Brazil. Three new species are described and illustrated: Berosus illuviosus sp. n., B. parvus sp. n., and B. andreazzei sp. n. In addition, we present a checklist of the Berosus species collected in 26 ponds in the savanna area of the State of Roraima, with 12 new species records for the state, five of which are also new country records for Brazil.

Three new water mite (Acari: Hydrachnidia) species are described from Tasmania, Tasmanobates separatus sp. nov., Procorticacarus karanovici sp. nov. and Guineaxonopsis tasmanica sp. nov. The material was collected in 2008 during a biological survey by Tom and Ivana Karanović (Hobart, Tasmania) from surface and interstitial waters of Tasmania. Moreover, a detailed description of Litarachna cf. amnicola Cook, 1986 is given.
