Three new species of fangblennies are described from Indonesia. Meiacanthus abruptus is described based on two specimens, 31.4–36.6 mm SL, from Komodo Island and color photographs of others from Bali. The combination of a white or yellow body color and a single dark mid-lateral stripe that is bluntly rounded at its terminus on the caudal-fin base distinguishes it from other single striped species. This new species closely resembles the allopatric M. vicinus, which has the mid-lateral stripe extending farther onto the caudal fin and tapering to a point. Meiacanthus erdmanni is described from the only known specimen, 35.8 mm SL, photographed and collected in 65–70 m in Cenderawasih Bay, western New Guinea. One of the deepest known species of Meiacanthus, it has two dark mid-lateral stripes and differs from other doublestriped species in having a series of dark blotches on the base of the dorsal fin and only 24 segmented dorsal-fin rays. Meiacanthus cyanopterus, another deep-water species, is described from seven specimens, 19.8–45.3 mm SL, collected in 40–65 m at three sites in Alor Strait. In life this species has a dorsal fin with a blue-violet stripe bordered above by a wide black stripe. An identification key is provided for all the striped species of Meiacanthus, including at least one additional undescribed species previously confused with M. abditus. Color photographs of other Meiacanthus species and some new distributional records are also given.

Heteroclinus argyrospilos, n. sp. is described as a new species from specimens sampled by sled and dredge in 55–100 m off South Australia and Western Australia. The species has a strongly compressed body and spatulate orbital tentacle similar to some shallow water species, particularly those of the Heteroclinus heptaeolus complex, which is characterized by having three segmented dorsal-fin rays, with the last two rays widely separate from the first ray. It is distinct from other Australian clinids in having two segmented dorsal-fin rays, well separated from the last dorsal-fin spine and a reduced lateral line on the body. It is known from a greater depth than other members of the genus.

Three new species, Hyalopecten vityazi sp. nov., H. abyssalis sp. nov. and H. kurilensis sp. nov., are described from the abyssal and hadal zones of the North-western Pacific. Hyalopecten vityazi was found in the Kuril-Kamchatka and Aleutian trenches at 6090–8100 m depth. It is the most deep-water species of the order Pectinida. Hyalopecten abyssalis and H. kurilensis were found at the abyssal plain adjacent to the Kuril-Kamchatka and Aleutian trenches at 4550–5045 m depth. To date, 13 species of the genus Hyalopecten are known from different regions of the World Ocean. A table with the main differences among all known species in the genus is provided.

Two new gobiid species, Thorogobius alvheimi sp. nov. and Thorogobius laureatus sp. nov. (Teleostei: Gobiiformes: Gobiidae), are described from the outer continental shelf and upper slope of the Eastern Central Atlantic off Angola, Ghana and São Tomé and Príncipe. The specimens were trawled from depths between 57 and 208 m. The new species are most similar to Thorogobius angolensis. Thorogobius alvheimi sp. nov. is distinguished from its congeners in the combination of following characters. Fins: first dorsal fin with the second and third spines distinctly elongated; pectoral fin ray count 20–21; pelvic disc complete and short with well-developed anterior membrane (frenum) and pointed lateral lobes. Scales: nape and predorsal area naked; no scales on opercle; scales in longitudinal series 27–31. Pattern of free neuromasts: supratemporal rows tr and trp developed, extending transversally between pores H and K; longitudinal row g short, not passing row m posteriorly and distinctly distant from row h; infraorbital row 6 long, ventrally extending to lower margin of preopercle, its ventral section 6i originating anterior to its dorsal section 6s; posterior lateral row h reaching anteriorly above posterior third of opercle. Coloration: body uniformly pale fawn and brown; margin of scale pockets dark brown pigmented, yielding a reticulated pattern; pale spots on nape and predorsal area; caudal fin uniformly dusky greyish. Thorogobius laureatus sp. nov. is distinguished from its congeners in the combination of following characters. Fins: first dorsal fin the second and third spines distinctly elongated; pectoral fin ray count 19–22; pelvic disc complete, short, with well-developed anterior membrane (frenum) with pointed lateral lobes. Scales: scales on sides of predorsal area and midline mostly naked; no scales on opercle; scales in longitudinal series 24–27. Pattern of free neuromasts (sensory papillae): supratemporal rows tr and trp developed, extending transversally between pores H and K; longitudinal row g long, passing row m posteriorly and relatively close to row h; infraorbital row 6 long, ventrally extending to lower margin of preopercle, its ventral (6i) and dorsal (6s) originating opposite to each other; posterior lateral rows: row h long, reaching anteriorly above middle of opercle. Coloration: body pale fawn and brownish; margin of scale pockets dark brown pigmented, yielding a reticulated pattern; five brown blotches on flanks in lateral midline from below first dorsal fin to caudal peduncle; caudal fin with six or seven distinct dark vertical bands.

Three new species of pinguipedid fishes from northern Australia are described based on specimens collected by deep water demersal trawling. Parapercis algrahami sp. nov. is recorded from off Dunk Island, Qld, south to Newcastle, NSW, in 67–333 m. It is distinct in having five narrow transverse dark bars across the upper body and a dark spot dorsally on the caudal-fin base, 6 canine teeth in outer row at front of lower jaw, palatines with 1–2 rows of teeth, and predorsal scales extending far forward on the nape to the posterior portion of the interorbital region. Parapercis imamurai sp. nov. is recorded from off Saumarez Reef, Qld, south to off Coffs Harbour, NSW, in 256–405 m. It is unique in having colouration that includes a broad dusky bar from lower margin of eye across the suborbital region and three broad dusky bands crossing the body between the middle of the soft dorsal-fin and the caudal-fin base, 10 canine teeth in outer row at front of lower jaw, and the fifth dorsal-fin spine longest. Parapercis pogonoskii sp. nov. is unique in having a combination of three reddish-brown vertical bars on the upper body between the anterior and posterior portions of the soft dorsal fin, the soft dorsal fin with two large dusky blotches and caudal-fin base with a dusky blotch in the upper corner, 8–10 canine teeth in outer row at front of lower jaw, fifth dorsal-fin spine longest, angle of subopercle with a single broad spine, and angle of preopercle with 4–5 large widely-separated spines. Comparison of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (CO 1) genetic marker utilised in DNA barcoding produced significant genetic divergences of at least 8.1% and 14.1% between P. algrahami sp. nov. and P. pogonoskii sp. nov. respectively and their closest sampled congeners.        The geographic range of Parapercis rubromaculata Ho, Chang & Shao, 2012 is extended from Taiwan to the southern hemisphere waters off Western Australia, based on specimens collected from Shark Bay, north to Ashmore Terrace, in depths of 56–107 m. A revised diagnosis for the species is presented, meristic, morphometric and DNA barcoding data for the two populations are compared, and a detailed description of the colouration of fresh and preserved specimens from Australia is provided. Previous records of Parapercis macrophthalma (Pietschmann, 1911) from Western Australia are established as misidentifications of Parapercis muronis (Tanaka, 1918) and the latter is thereby confirmed from the southern hemisphere and Australian waters for the first time. Comparative meristic, morphometric and DNA barcoding data is provided for populations of P. muronis from Japan, Philippines and Western Australia.

Three new species of the Simpsonichthys antenori group from the upper sections of eastern drainages of the middle rio São Francisco, serra do Espinhaço, are described. Simpsonichthys janaubensis, new species, from the rio Gorutuba floodplains, upper rio Verde Grande drainage, shares a derived color pattern of anal fin in males with S. flavicaudatus and S. flagellatus, but differs from them in having a more slender body, a shorter anal-fin base, and a distinctive color pattern of the dorsal fin in males. Simpsonichthys mediopapillatus, new species, from the rio São Domingos drainage, a part of the upper rio Verde Grande drainage, is similar to S. ghisolfii in having a long urogenital papilla and a light orangish-yellow subdistal stripe on the anal fin in males, and it is distinguished from all congeners in having a median neuromast on the posterior rostral series. Simpsonichthys macaubensis, new species, from the upper rio Paramirim drainage, differs from other species of the S. antenori group by a combination of features, including presence of contact organs on the flank in males, dorsal and anal-fin filaments reaching central portion of caudal fin in males, urogenital papilla short in males, and anal fin yellow, with a distal black stripe and iridescent dots over the entire fin in males. A key for identification of species of the S. antenori group is provided.

Lebiasina marilynae n. sp., L. melanoguttata n. sp., and L. minuta n. sp. are described from the headwaters of the rio Curuá, in Serra do Cachimbo, Pará, Brazil, and represent the only members of the Lebiasininae in the Brazilian Shied, so far. A close relationship among these species is proposed based on: 1) the presence of a pair of foramina through which the ramus palatinus of the facial nerve passes, a modification unique in Lebiasinidae and apparently in the Characiformes, 2) the enlargement of the extrascapular bone, 3) the absence of the secondary stripe, and 4) the nearly equal length of caudal-fin lobes. Lebiasina marilynae additionally differs from all congeners in having the primary stripe extending from the tip of the snout to the distal border of the caudal-fin peduncle, the possession of two series of dark blotches parallel to the primary stripe, and a rounded dorsal surface of the mesethmoid. Lebiasina melanoguttata and Lebiasina minuta additionally differ from all congeners in the absence of the primary stripe and the caudal blotch, and the presence of three longitudinal series of dark blotches at the base of the scales of series 3-5. Lebiasina melanoguttata differs from Lebiasina minuta in the absence of a dark blotch at the base of the median rays of the dorsal fin, second infrapharyngobranchial bearing conical teeth, the reddish overall coloration of the eye and fins, and the dark blotches never coalescing (vs. dark dorsal-fin blotch present; the second infrapharyngobranchial being edentulous; dark, olive green eyes, and the yellowish overall color of body and fins; and the dark blotches of longitudinal series 3 and 4 coalescing where scales of adjacent longitudinal series overlap). The occurrence of species of the Lebiasininae on the Brazilian Shield is discussed, and the distribution pattern of the species described herein is compared to that of other endemic species of the Serra do Cachimbo, a highly biodiverse area isolated from the rest of the Amazon basin.

Three new species of Chimaera are described from the Southwestern Indian Ocean. Chimaera willwatchi sp. nov. is distinguished by its large body, blocky head with square snout, well-defined suborbital ridges, and a strong dorsal spine exceeding first dorsal apex; body brown-purple in color, slight iridescent sheen, heavily mottled around mouth and ventral surface, posterior edge of pelvic fins and first dorsal fin with prominent white margin, and anterior edge of second dorsal fin with white margin. Chimaera didierae sp. nov. can be distinguished by its light tan body color, slender body, short trunk, long tail, relatively robust spine, very small unpaired fins, and extremely deciduous skin. Chimaera buccanigella sp. nov. is distinguished by its light tan body color, stocky body, short trunk, tapering rapidly into a long tail, long, very straight spine, skin not deciduous. The three Chimaera species were collected from seamounts of Walters Shoal, the Madagascar Ridge, and the Southwestern Indian Ridge in an area within 34o30’S–44o05’E and 39o30’S–58o15’E. This is the first record of the genus in the Southwestern Indian Ocean, and brings the global total to 19 species. The new species presented here are distinguishable from their congeners by a combination of coloration, morphology, meristic, and structure of the mitochondrial NADH2 gene.

Apogonichthyoides is resurrected from Apogon (Ostorhinchus) as a valid genus with 19 species. Members of this genus are mostly tannish brown to brownish-black in body color. The head and body usually have brownish to blackish spots (sometimes stripe-like), a darkish cheek line and usually two body bars. An ocellus may be present below the lateral line on the body or absent. One or more caudal-peduncular bars and/or a basicaudal spot are often present. Insertion patterns of supraneurals and pterygiophores are given for 11 species. Apogonichthyoides umbratilis, a new species, has 14 pectoral rays and five bars (three faint) on the body and caudal peduncle. Color pattern of the new species suggest relationships with Apogonichthyoides gardineri, A. timorensis and A. opercularis. Descriptions and illustrations of the latter two species are provided for comparison. Apogonichthyoides gardineri, a rare, deep-water species is characterized by 14 pectoral rays, two bars on the body and one wide bar near the base of the caudal peduncle. Specimens of Apogonichthyoides timorensis usually have 15–16 pectoral rays and two or three bars on the body and caudal peduncle. Specimens of Apogonichthyoides opercularis have nine soft anal rays and 10 soft dorsal rays. A key to eight species included in the timorensis species group is provided. A lectotype and paralectotypes are designated for the syntype series of Apogon opercularis. New name combinations follow: Apogonichthyoides atripes, A. brevicaudatus, A. cantoris, A. chrysurus, A. euspilotus, A. gardineri, A. heptastygma, A. niger, A. opercularis, A. pharaonis, A. pseudotaeniatus, A. regani, A. sialis and A. timorensis. Previous usage includes: Apogonichthyoides enigmaticus, A. nigripinnis, A. taeniatus and A. uninotatus

Ten species of the congrid eel genus Bathycongrus are recognized from Taiwanese waters. Diagnoses and full descriptions of eight species are provided in present work. Three species are described as new. Bathycongrus bimaculatus sp. nov. is a small species with a pale body color, two black patches on dorsal fin, and 109–111 total vertebrae. Bathycongrus graciliceps sp. nov. is a moderately elongate species with a small, slender head and long trunk, and 163 total vertebrae. Bathycongrus castlei sp. nov. is a slender species with a relatively short trunk, dorsal half of body deep brownish, and 160–162 total vertebrae. Two rare species, B. bleekeri Fowler, 1934 and B. macroporis (Kotthaus, 1968), are newly reported from Taiwan. A key to all species in Taiwan is provided.

Bougainvillia aberrans n.sp. is described from Bermuda in the western North Atlantic Ocean. Specimens were collected at a depth of 150 fathoms (274 m) from the polypropylene buoy line of a crab trap. The hydroid colony of B. aberrans is erect, with a polysiphonic hydrocaulus, a smooth to somewhat wrinkled perisarc, hydranths having a maximum of about 16 tentacles, and medusa buds arising only from hydranth pedicels. Medusae liberated in the laboratory from these hydroids differ from all other known species of the genus in having a long, spindle-shaped manubrium, lacking oral tentacles, having marginal tentacles reduced to mere stubs, and being very short-lived (surviving for a few hours at most). Gonads develop in medusa buds while they are still attached to the hydroids, and gametes are shed either prior to liberation of the medusae or shortly thereafter. The eggs are surrounded by an envelope bearing nematocysts (heterotrichous microbasic euryteles). The cnidome of both hydroid and medusa stages consists of desmonemes and heterotrichous microbasic euryteles. The diagnosis of the genus Bougainvillia is modified to accommodate this new deep-water species.
