Iranian Onychiuridae found so far in various provinces by different researchers have been reviewed. At present, sixteen species belonging to the family Onychiuridae are recorded from Iran, six of which need confirmation. Three new species from different tribes of the family, namely Heteraphorura iranica sp. nov., (Hymenaphorurini), Protaphorura golestanica sp. nov. (Protaphorurini) and Spinonychiurus persicus sp. nov. (Thalassaphorurini), are described and illustrated. H. iranica sp. nov. belongs to the oriental species-group of the genus characterized by granulated vesicles in PAO, P. golestanica sp. nov.––to the group of Protaphorura species without pso on subcoxa 1 of all legs and with 2+2 pso ventrally on the head, S. persicus sp. nov.––to the group of Spinonychiurus species with 11 chaetae in distal whorl of tibiotarsi. A key of the Palearctic species of Heteraphorura is provided.

Various records of A. simplex Carter, 1879 from the Atlantic are assigned to three new species of the sponge genus Asteropus Sollas, 1888, viz.: A. brasiliensis sp. n., A. vasiformis sp. n., and A. niger sp. n., whereas A. simplex s.s. is restricted to the Indo-Pacific. A worldwide study of Asteropus specimens resulted in the conclusion that two species groups exist, namely “simplex ”- like species (with true sanidasters), and “sarasinorum”- like species (with spiny microrhabds), as previously observed by Bergquist (1965, 1968). A newly discovered microsclere complement of trichodragmata in the first group strengthens the need for generic distinction of both lineages, and accordingly the name Melophlus Thiele, 1899 is reinstated for the “sarasinorum” species group. A key to the West Atlantic species of Asteropus is provided. The family allocation of Asteropus and associated genera in the Coppatiidae Topsent, 1898 is discussed, with the conclusion that the family is undoubtedly a polyphyletic assemblage related to various astrophorid groups (Hooper, 1986; Van Soest, 1991).

AbstractThree new species of the family Pontellidae, Labidocera javaensis, L. muranoi and Pontella labuanensis, are described and illustrated from specimens collected in coastal waters of Java, Indonesia, and their relationships to related species are discussed. Labidocera javaensis, which belongs to the Labidocera pectinata-group, is distinguishable from other species of this group by a combination of characters of the genital complex and the fifth legs in the female and of the fifth metasomal somite, the first urosomal somite, and the fifth legs in the male. It seems to be a neritic species inhabiting coastal waters shallower than 15 m in depth, and within 1 km offshore. Labidocera muranoi, which was collected from Cilacap Bay, a mangrove estuary facing the Indian Ocean, belongs to the Labidocera kroyeri-group and is distinguished from other species of this group by the urosomal somites and the fifth legs in the female and by the fifth metasomal somite and the fifth legs in the male. This may be an endemic species which has a preference for low salinities. Pontella labuanensis does not belong to any of the known three species-groups of Indo-West Pacific Pontella, in having the symmetrical genital somite and the exopods of the fifth legs virtually naked in the female, and the rostrum with double convex lenses and the exopods of the fifth legs with two subequal thumbs, in the male. The establishment of a new species-group, the P. labuanensis-group, is proposed.

Abstract The fauna of bristletails of the genus Lepismachilis Verhoeff, 1910 in Montenegro and Serbia includes only one species L. (Berlesilis) targionii (Grassi, 1887) with 2 + 2 eversible vesicles on abdominal urocoxites II–VI. Three new species of this genus are described: L. (Lepismachilis) prijepolja sp. nov., L. (Lepismachilis) limensa sp. nov. from Serbia, and L. (Lepismachilis) alexandrae sp. nov. from Montenegro. All described new species belong to the species group of the subgenus Lepismachilis s. str. with 2 + 2 eversible vesicles on abdominal urocoxites II–V. Lepismachilis prijepolja sp. nov. differs from L. y-signata Kratochvíl, 1945 and L. notata Stach, 1919 by the color, drawings and ratios of the compound eyes; ratios of sensory field on fore femur of male, number of divisions of ovipositor. Lepismachilis limensa sp. nov. differs from L. hauseri Bitsch, 1974 and L. abchasica Kaplin, 2017 by ratios of paired ocelli, sensory field on fore femur of male; ratios and chaetotaxy of maxillary and labial palps. Lepismachilis alexandrae sp. nov. differs from L. abchasica by the drawings of the compound eyes; ratios of paired ocelli, sensory field on fore femur of male; number of divisions of the parameres and gonapophyses. A list of the Machilidae occurring in Balkan Peninsula is also provided.

Resuming published and own data, a revision of classification of Chaetognatha is presented. The family Sagittidae Claus & Grobben, 1905 is given a rank of subclass, Sagittiones, characterised, in particular, by the presence of two pairs of sac-like gelatinous structures or two pairs of fins. Besides the order Aphragmophora Tokioka, 1965, it contains the new order Biphragmosagittiformes ord. nov., which is a unique group of Chaetognatha with an unusual combination of morphological characters: the transverse muscles present in both the trunk and the tail sections of the body; the seminal vesicles simple, without internal complex compartments; the presence of two pairs of lateral fins. The only family assigned to the new order, Biphragmosagittidae fam. nov., contains two genera. Diagnoses of the two new genera, Biphragmosagitta gen. nov. (type species B. tarasovi sp. nov. and B. angusticephala sp. nov.) and Biphragmofastigata gen. nov. (type species B. fastigata sp. nov.), detailed descriptions and pictures of the three new species are presented.

AbstractMorphological, life history, and distributional data are presented for North American species of the subgenus Stygomomonia (sensu stricto) Szalay, 1943. Adults of the seven previously recognized species are redescribed, and deutonymphs of five of these species are described for the first time. Two species, S. (s.s.) neomexicana Cook and S. (s.s.) occidentalis Cook are substantially revised on the basis of an examination of the types and extensive series of newly collected specimens. Three new species are described, S. (s.s.) californiensis on the basis of deutonymphs and adults, and S. (s.s.) imamurai and S. (s.s.) cooki on the basis of adults. A new diagnosis of the subgenus is proposed and discussed, the relationships of the various species are discussed, and a key to deutonymphs and adults of North American species is presented. New distributional data are presented for all species, and dispersal patterns from Pleistocene refugia are discussed.

Three new species of Chrysomelidae with extraordinary extensions of the male mandibles are described: Scaphodius drehu sp. nov. and S. ferox sp. nov. (Cryptocephalinae), from New Caledonia, and Chaloenus gajah sp. nov. (Galerucinae), from Borneo. Designation of the type species of Chaloenus Westwood, 1861, is clarified. Synonymy of Scaphodius Chapuis, 1874, with Nyetra Baly, 1877, is supported. Four species of Ditropidus Erichson, 1842, described from New Caledonia, but hitherto regarded as nomina nuda, are shown to be available and are placed in Scaphodius: S. aeneus (Fauvel, 1907), comb. nov., S. nitidus (Fauvel, 1907) comb. nov., S. striolatus (Fauvel, 1907) comb. nov., S. sulcatus (Fauvel, 1907) comb. nov. Ditropidus opacicollis Fauvel, 1907, is also transferred to Scaphodius, as S. opacicollis (Fauvel) comb. nov. The genus Ditropidus does not occur onNew Caledonia. Male mandible enlargment in the Chrysomelidae is reviewed: it is common in Cryptocephalinae, but otherwise restricted to a few species of Chrysomelinae, Eumolpinae and Galerucinae. Possible reasons for its distribution in the Chrysomelidae are discussed.
