A new species of Eupasiphae Wood-Mason & Alcock, 1893 (Crustacea, Decapoda, Pasiphaeidae) from the southwestern Atlantic

The pasiphaeid shrimp genus Eupasiphae Wood-Mason & Alcock, 1893 (Caridea: Pasiphaeidae) currently includes four bathypelagic species: Eupasiphae latirostris (Wood-Mason, 1891), E. gilesii (Wood-Mason, 1892), E. serrata Rathbun, 1902 and E. paucidentata Crosnier, 1988. The present work describes a further new species, Eupasiphae ostrovski n. sp., on the basis of material sampled at the continental shelf and slope of the Central Brazilian coast at depths of 200 – 2000 m. The new species is somewhat similar to E. paucidentata, only known from Madagascar, but can be easily distinguished from all other congeneric species by the number and shape of lateral carinae at carapace and by the middorsal carina of the carapace being without teeth anteriorly and with 0–3 posteriorly. The new species is the first Eupasiphae representative known from the southwestern Atlantic.

This work deals with haplosclerid sponges off the coast of Maranhão State, northeastern coast of Brazilian shelf (southwestern Atlantic). A new species is described, Haliclona (Halichoclona) lernerae. Four species are recorded for the first time for the Brazilian coast: Amphimedon caribica (Pulitzer-Finali, 1986); Niphates lutea Lehnert & Van Soest, 1999; Neopetrosia subtriangularis (Duchassaing, 1850) and Petrosia (Petrosia) weinbergi Van Soest, 1980. Three species were recollected from the southwestern Atlantic and have their geographic distribution extended on the Brazilian coast: Callyspongia (Cladochalina) vaginalis (Duchassaing & Michelotti, 1864), Oceanapia bartschi (De Laubenfels, 1934) and Xestospongia muta (Schmidt, 1870). Two species were collected for the first time from the Maranhão State Coast: Niphates erecta Duchassaing & Michelotti, 1864 and Neopetrosia proxima (Duchassaing & Michelotti, 1864). A taxonomic study of those samples is given, including description, illustrations and geographic distribution.

Ampelisca species are inhabitant of soft bottom marine benthic communities of tropical to cold – temperate zones. Prior to this paper, 11 species of the genus were recognized from Brazilian coast. Three new species of Ampelisca are herein described: Ampelisca longipropoda, Ampelisca meridionalis and Ampelisca youngi. The specimens were dredged from the continental shelf of Southwestern Atlantic Ocean between the latitudes 22°06’S and 34°32’S. A key to the Ampelisca species of the Brazilian coast is provided.

The genus Pisinna Monterosato, 1878 (Anabathridae Ponder, 1988) is reported from the Brazilian coast for the first time. Pisinna bicincta n. sp. is found off Esp rito Santo State (65 67 m depth) on the Brazilian continental shelf. It is diagnosed by its pupiform shell, with subsutural depression, two spiral bands (one white and one orange), dome-shaped paucispiral protoconch sculptured with about 17 spiral rows of minute flat pits, teleoconch with about 22 oblique axial cordlets, and aperture with columellar tooth.

Material collected on the central Brazilian coast from the REVIZEE Benthos Program was analyzed and three new species were herein described. Knowledge about sexual dimorphism on Bonassa is improved. The hypothesis of endemism of the genus Amaryllis to Australia is contested with the discovery of a new species of Amaryllis in the Southwestern Atlantic Ocean. A new species of Lysianassa is described, and its differences to L. brasiliensis are commented too. Lysianopsis concavus Senna, 2007 is herein described with more details in description and figures. The distributions of the described species are given. Keys to identification of Brazilian Lysianassoidea families and Lysianassidae species are presented in this paper.Key-words: Amaryllis, Bonassa, Lysianassa, Lysianopsis, taxonomy, Brazilian province

Worldwide there are approximately 40 species of Metrarabdotos, only six of which are extant. Among the living species, three were previously recorded from the Brazilian coast: M. unguiculatum, M. tuberosum, and M. gulo, collected from Bahia and Espírito Santo States. There are no records of fossil species of Metrarabdotos from Brazil. This study reports two living Metrarabdotos species, collected from three states in Brazil―Sergipe, Bahia and Espírito Santo. One of the species, M. sergipensis, is new to science. Its morphological features, such as extreme tuberculation of the zooidal frontal shield, add appreciably to the range of morphological disparity known in the genus.Key-words: Brazil, Bryozoa, Metrarabdotosidae, new species, Southwestern Atlantic, taxonomy

Eumunida picta Smith, 1883, was considered for over a century an amphi-Atlantic species and the only representative of the genus in the Atlantic Ocean, until being split into three species: E. picta sensu stricto (from the northwestern Atlantic), E. bella de Saint Laurent & MacPherson, 1990 and E. squamifera de Saint Laurent & MacPherson, 1990 (from the northeastern and southeastern Atlantic, respectively). Eumunida is now expanded to include a new species, E. notialis, from off the Brazilian coast. Hence, this is the first record of Eumunida and Eumunididae from the southwestern Atlantic. The new species differs from all its Atlantic counterparts in having (1) four hepatic spines; (2) two carapace inframarginal spines; (3) the distal end of the antennal acicle nearly reaching to the articulation between fourth and fifth antennal segments; and (4) the anterolateral spine of the second pleonal tergite obsolete.

The genus Pasiphaea Savigny, 1816 (Caridea: Pasiphaeidae) includes 71 species, of which vast majority inhabit in the meso or bathypelagic zones in the world oceans. A new species is described herein, sampled during the project "ABRACOS 2" (Acoustic along the BRazilian COast) nearby the Rocas Atoll and Fernando de Noronha Archipelago, in Brazilian waters. Pasiphaea antea n. sp. appears close to Pasiphaea dorsolineatus Komai & Chan, 2012 described from off Hawaii, but is distinguished from the latter by the different shape of the rostrum, the mid-dorsal line of the carapace sharply carinate in the anterior half, and the possession of more numerous spiniform setae on the meri of the pereopods 1 and 2. This is the third species known from the southwestern Atlantic.

A new species of Trichopeltarion A. Milne-Edwards, 1880, is described from off coast of Brazil, namely Trichopeltarion pezzutoi n. sp. The new species is compared to its Atlantic congeners, Trichopeltarion nobile A. Milne-Edwards, 1880, and Trichopeltarion intesi (Crosnier, 1981). The record of T. nobile from Brazil should actually be attributed to T. pezzutoi n. sp. The differences between the genera Trichopeltarion and Peltarion Jacquinot, 1847 are discussed.
