Three new species of the genus Oligaphorura are described from southwestern China (O. wanglangensis sp. nov.) and Russian Far East (O. ussurica sp. nov. and O. kedroviensis sp. nov.). The first species is most similar to O. inya (Weiner & Kaprus’, 2014) known from the Altai Mountains, and can be distinguished from the latter by larger body size and the number of ventral psx (00/000/121101m in O. wanglangensis sp. nov. vs 1/000/212101m in O. inya). The other two species, together with O. montana Weiner, 1994, O. pseudomontana Sun & Wu, 2012 and O. chankaensis Sun & Wu, 2012, form a distinct species-group characterized by the presence of 4+4 pso on antennal base and full-sized anal spines. Both these new species differ from the known congeners of this group by having only 2+2 posterior pso on the head. O. ussurica sp. nov. and O. kedroviensis sp. nov. can be separated due to different number of abdominal pso, i.e. 5(6)5554 in the former vs 44454 in the latter species.

A new species, Baetis majus Tiunova sp. nov., is described and illustrated based on larvae and reared adults discovered in the Russian Far East. The differential identification of this species was determined by the characteristics of other representatives of the genus Baetis Leach, including subgenera Baetis Leach and Tenuibaetis Kang & Yang from Eastern and Western Palaearctic, Nearctic and Oriental regions. In addition to morphological studies, DNA barcoding of the described species with average intraspecific K2P distances to nearest neighbours is documented. We reconstructed the phylogenetic relationships of all available cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) sequences of the subgenera of Baetis and Tenuibaetis from four regions. Bayesian analysis using 47 morphological characters additional to partial COI sequences did not allow to determine the species-group of the Baetis genus to which the described species belongs.

A systematic review of the genus Abiskomyia Edwards, 1937 is presented based on materials from the Russian Far East and bordering territories. Three new species: A. korbokhon sp. nov., A. levanidovi sp. nov., A. rivalis sp. nov. and one subspecies A. virgo orientalis subsp. nov. are described and figured. Emended generic diagnoses and keys to determination of adult males, pupae and fourth instar larvae of all known species and subspecies of the Abiskomyia of the Palaearctic region are provided.

A new species of scincid lizard allied to Plestiodon japonicus (Peters, 1864) was described as P. finitimus sp. nov., fromthe eastern part of Honshu and Hokkaido, Japan. A previous DNA study reported the taxonomic status of the easternJapanese populations of Plestiodon as an undescribed species on the basis of their collective genetic distinctness from aparapatric congener P. japonicus sensu strict from the western part of mainland Japan. We present the diagnostic featuresof P. finitimus compared to P. japonicus and P. latiscutatus Hallowell, 1861, the other parapatric species occurring in theIzu Peninsula and Izu Islands of central Japan, on the basis of morphological characteristics and DNA barcode patterns.Both P. finitimus and P. japonicus have a small postnasal and large anterior loreal that contacts the supralabials. In contrast,the Izu Peninsular populations of P. latiscutatus, which had no known diagnostic features relative to the other two species,usually have a large postnasal and small anterior loreal, with the latter separated from the supralabials by the former, ormay otherwise lack a postnasal. In most populations of P. finitimus, the right and left prefrontals are usually isolated fromeach other, whereas they exhibit medial contact in most populations of P. japonicus. Although all the above characters arevariable both within and between populations, 60–90% of the specimens from each locality on mainland Japan werecorrectly identified using a combination of these characters. Based on these characters, the Russian Far East populationof Plestiodon was also identified as P. finitimus. The interspecific sequence differences in the standard DNA barcoderegion (a 658 base pair fragment of the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene of mitochondrial DNA) were distinct, andeach of the three species was exclusively clustered in a neighbor-joining tree. The limited hybridization among the threespecies indicated by previous studies suggests that DNA barcodes could provide a reliable key for their correctidentification. The implications for the biogeography and speciation of the three parapatric lizard species are briefly discussed.

A new species, Baetis pentaphyllus sp. nov., is described on the basis of larvae from the Far East of Russia (type locality Bolshoi Garmakan River). Larvae of Baetis pentaphyllus sp. nov. may be distinguished from other Baetis species by the presence of only five pairs of tergalii on segments III–VII. The mitochondrial COI sequence obtained from the described species was compared with the data present in GeneBank and BOLD. The DNA barcodes allowed discrimination of B. pentaphyllus sp. nov. from other species of Baetis with available sequence data. The average interspecific K2P distances were 10–15%, which are values well above those associated with intraspecific variation. COI sequences as well as 36 morphological larval characters were analysed using Bayesian inference to relate the described species to the recognized species-groups of the Baetis genus. B. pentaphyllus sp. nov formed a sister clade to B. vardarensis + B. lutheri which belong to the Baetis lutheri species-group.

The East Asian noctuid genus Lophomilia Warren, 1913 (=Atuntsea Berio, 1977, Bryograpta Sugi, 1977) is revised. Four new species (L. nekrasovi sp. n., L. rustica sp. n., L. diehli sp. n., and L. kobesi sp. n.) are described from Russian Far East, Korea, China and Indonesia, Sumatra. Lophomilia takao Sugi, 1962 and Lophomilia albicosta Yoshimoto 1995 are reported for the first time from China; Lophomilia polybapta (Butler, 1879) is first reported from Russia. The male and female genitalia of most species are described, adults of 12 species from East Asia are illustrated, and distribution maps for all species are presented.

The genus Parabelbella (Oribatida, Damaeidae), with nine known species, is distributed in the Holarctic and Neotropical regions; of these, two new species from the Russian Far East and the U.S.A. are described on the basis of adult specimens. Parabelbella rusfareastensis sp. nov. differs from Parabelbella crenatosetosa Bulanova-Zachvatkina, 1967 by the smaller body size, the absence of propodolateral apophysis, direction of notogastral seta c1, and the mutual distance between notogastral setae c. Parabelbella pseudoinaequipes sp. nov. differs from Parabelbella inaequipes (Banks, 1947) by the presence of distinctly barbed notogastral setae la and lm and sparsely barbed setae c1, c2, lp, h3, shorter and thinner dorsal notogastral setae, anterior median ventral tubercle, and by distance between insertions of seta lm–lp. The redescription of P. inaequipes is presented, based on material from the U.S.A. The main morphological traits for this species are summarized. An identification key to known species of Parabelbella is provided.

The fauna of the bryocorine plant bug tribe Dicyphini in eastern Asia (including Japan, Korea, Russian Far East and Taiwan) is reviewed, with emphasis on the genus Nesidiocoris Kirkaldy, which is rediagnosed and discussed. Twelve species in six genera are now recognized. Three new species of Nesidiocoris are described from Japan: Nesidiocoris nozakianus sp. n., N. okinawanus sp. n. and N. simotukensis sp. n. Nesidiocoris poppiusi (Carvalho) is proposed as a junior synonym of N. tenuis, and N. plebejus (Poppius) is transferred to Singhalesia China & Carvalho. An annotated checklist and a key to genera and species are also provided to aid in appreciating the east Asian dicyphine fauna.

The canaliculatus species group of Stenus (Nestus) is redefined. Four new Palaearctic species of the group are described and illustrated: S. (N.) alopex sp. nov. from the Putorana Highland and Taymyr Peninsula, Russia; S. (N.) canalis sp. nov. from SE Siberia and the Russian Far East; S. (N.) canosus sp. nov. from the Narat Mt Ridge, Chinese Tien Shan; S. (N.) delitor sp. nov. from C & SE Siberia. New distributional data as well as brief analyses of old records for fourteen species described earlier are provided from both Palaearctic and Nearctic material. S. (N.) milleporus Casey, 1884 (= sectilifer Casey, 1884) is revalidated as a species propria. S. (N.) sphaerops Casey, 1884 is redescribed; its aedeagus is figured for the first time; the aedeagus of S. (N.) caseyi Puthz, 1972 as well as aedeagi of eight previously described Palaearctic species are illustrated anew. A key for the identification of all the known Palaearctic species of the group is given. A morphology and ecology based analysis of the main evolutionary trends within the group is provided. A lectotype is designated for S. (N.) melanopus Marsham, 1802; its Siberian and NE European records are supposed to be erroneous; the monotypic melanopus species group is erected.

AbstractThree onychiurid springtail species of a new genus are described from the Far East (Russia). Sensillonychiurus gen. n. clearly differs in its antennal III sense organ consisting of three guard setae only. The genus is placed in the tribe Thalassaphorurini. Within the tribe it is related to Detriturus Pomorski, 1998 which it resembles in the lack of d0 setae on the head.
