The subtribe Monoctonina has long been overlooked when it comes to morphological studies, probably due to the low economic importance of its members. Mainly distributed in high montane areas and forest ecosystems, species of Monoctonina are not often found in large populations and do not parasitize pests of cultivated plants. Our research uncovered five new species belonging to this subtribe (Monoctonus brachyradius sp. n., M. canadensis sp. n., M. inexpectatus sp. n., M. luteus sp. n., and M. parvipalpus sp. n.). We also redescribe species originally described over a century ago, and discuss the utility of certain morphological characters, as well as status of some species within Monoctonina.

A new species, Baetis majus Tiunova sp. nov., is described and illustrated based on larvae and reared adults discovered in the Russian Far East. The differential identification of this species was determined by the characteristics of other representatives of the genus Baetis Leach, including subgenera Baetis Leach and Tenuibaetis Kang & Yang from Eastern and Western Palaearctic, Nearctic and Oriental regions. In addition to morphological studies, DNA barcoding of the described species with average intraspecific K2P distances to nearest neighbours is documented. We reconstructed the phylogenetic relationships of all available cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) sequences of the subgenera of Baetis and Tenuibaetis from four regions. Bayesian analysis using 47 morphological characters additional to partial COI sequences did not allow to determine the species-group of the Baetis genus to which the described species belongs.

Members of the Monoctonina subtribe have long been neglected in applied studies of the subfamily Aphidiinae, due to their low economic importance, as they do not parasitize pests of cultivated plants. Consequently, data about this group are scarce, including its taxonomy and phylogeny. In the present study, we explore inter- and intraspecific genetic variation of Monoctonina species, including genera Monoctonus Haliday 1833, Monoctonia Starý 1962, Falciconus Mackauer 1959 and Harkeria Cameron 1900. We employ two molecular markers, the barcode region of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) and the D2 region of the 28S nuclear gene (28S rDNA), to analyze genetic structuring and phylogeny of all available Monoctonina species, and combine them with morphological data for an integrative approach. We report one new species, and three potentially new species which can be formally described when further specimens are available. Analysis of phylogenetic relationships within the subtribe shows a basal position for the genera Falciconus and Monoctonia, and the close relatedness of Harkeria and Monoctonus.

Six new species of the genus Chevalia are described from the Brazilian coast using all morphological characters proposed by Barnard & Thomas (1987) and Lazo-Wazen (1999) with two more: the shape of head proximal margin of lateral cephalic lobe and length ratio of uropod 2 rami: C. anomala sp. nov.; C. caetes sp. nov.; C. convexa sp. nov.; C. marajoara sp. nov.; C. thomasi sp. nov.; and C. setosa sp. nov. This paper raises the total number of recognized world species in this genus to 13. The genus is herein subdivided into three groups, based only on the shape of the basis of pereopod 7: group I – rectangular basis of pereopod 7 with a protuberant posteroventral corner, comprises four species; group II – rectangular basis of pereopod 7 lacking a protuberant posteroventral corner, comprises three species; and group III – ovate basis of pereopod 7, comprises seven species. A key of the world Chevalia species is also provided.

During a survey, 12 known and one new species of Ditylenchus Filipjev, 1936 were collected from southern provinces of Iran during 2013–2017. Ditylenchus paraparvus n. sp. is characterised by a short body length (441–543 µm), lateral field with four lines, delicate and short stylet (6–7.5 µm) with small rounded or posteriorly sloping knobs, pyriform and offset basal pharyngeal bulb, V = 67.7–76.4, short post-vulval uterine sac less than one vulval body width long, small spicules (12.5–15 µm) and almost cylindrical tail (71–90 µm) with rounded end. Morphometric data of studied species are presented and intraspecific variation of their morphometrics and morphological characters is discussed. The list of the world Ditylenchus species is updated, and a dichotomous identification key and an updated tabular compendium for 63 valid species is provided.

Two new species of nereidids, Dendronereis chipolini n. sp. and Neanthes hsinchuensis n. sp., collected from brackish aquaculture ponds near coasts of southern Taiwan and fouling community on docks of the Hsinchu fishing port in northwestern Taiwan, respectively, are described in the present study. Dendronereis chipolini n. sp. differs from its congeners by a combination of number and morphology of branchiae, morphology of neuropodia and form of neuropodial homogomph spinigers. Neanthes hsinchuensis n. sp. can be distinguished from congeners reported from East and Southeast Asia by a combination of numbers of conical paragnaths, morphology of notopodia, the absent/present of prechaetal lobe and forms of neuropodial chaetae. A key to Dendronereis species of the world is included, together with a table of morphological characters of Neanthes species reported from East and Southeast Asia, which have no conical paragnaths on Area V of the pharynx.

Stachys babylonica (Lamiaceae). A new species from the mountainous, Kurdistan Iraq, is described and illustrated. Its distinguishing characters are discussed. It is distinguished from the closely related species S. kotschyi by having elliptic-rhombic (vs. ovate or oval- elliptic) leaves, (30-35 x 10-16 mm) (vs. 25-47 x 14-21mm), lower leaves petioles longer ± 16mm (vs. C.7mm), the median leaves petiole ± 7mm (vs. subsessile – sessile), calyx is narrowly tubular appressed (vs. infundibular – campanulate ± spreading), bracteoles are well developed as long as or longer than calyx (vs. shorter than calyx or absent), teeth of calyx are narrowly lanceolate (vs. broadly lanceolate and spreading). This new species to science is represented only by two specimens: the holotype & the isotype #12125.Specimen #12125 has been mistakenly identified as S. tomentosa Rech.f. by Rechinger [1]. Rechinger used only morphological characters in his identification. To clear the ambiguity, Pollen grain study was done and the results of this study were tabulated in Hamodie's work [2] .Specimen #50059 mentioned by Al –Zubaedy [3] as collected by Ali Halob in 2010 from Piera Magron Mt. was also mistakenly identified as S.babylonica. The consideration of specimens belong to S. kotschyi Boiss. as S. babylonica Hamodie & Wilcock made errors on conclusions by Al-Zubaedy [3] on molecular & P.G and morphological studies and reconsideration on these issues are needed. All the indicators so far gathered, approve that plants of this new species were most likely vanished from Piera Magron Mt. in Sulaimaniya sometime after 1948.

Five species of the family Odiidae (Amphipoda), including four new species, are recorded from Japan: Metodius cyanomaculatus sp. nov.; M. leucomaculatus sp. nov.; Postodius albifacies sp. nov.; P. sanguineus sp. nov.; and Antarctodius japonicus Ariyama, 2011. Morphological characters and coloration of these species are described in detail. Metodius gen. nov. is established for the two new species and is characterized by the very short and bare palp of the maxilla 1 and the large gnathopod 2 propodus. Keys to the odiid genera and the Postodius species in the world are provided. The genera can be distinguished from one another by the shapes of maxilla 1, maxilliped, pereopod 7, and telson. The Postodius species differs in the shapes of gnathopod 2, and pereopods 3, 7. Female of A. japonicus is firstly recorded. In this species, the presence of an accessory flagellum and a gill on the coxa 7 is confirmed.

A complete revision of the world species of the genus Phaenoglyphis Förster, 1869 has been conducted. A total of 25 species of Phaenoglyphis are valid after studying their type material. Two new species are described: Phaenoglyphis belizini sp. n. and Phaenoglyphis palmirae sp. n. Two species are synonymized: P. dolichocera (Cameron, 1889) with P. nigripes (Thomson, 1877) and P. pecki Andrews, 1978 with P. villosa (Hartig, 1841). Phaenoglyphis bangalorensis Kurian, 1953 was considered as incertae sedis. Phaenoglyphis duplocarpentieri (Kieffer, 1904) and P. hedickei Hedicke, 1928 are considered lost. Other three species are discarded as valid species because they are missing important parts without which the species cannot be defined: P. cincta (Hartig, 1841), P. frigidus (Belizin, 1968) and P. repentinus Belizin, 1962. A complete redescription and an illustrative plate are presented. A key to species of the genus Phaenoglyphis is given. Phylogenetic analysis based on morphological characters has been performed.

Hypnea musciformis is a red macroalgal species with economic importance as a source for production of carrageenan. Recent phylogeographic studies revealed a hidden diversity of cryptic species, putting in check its cosmopolitan distribution. The DNA barcode marker COI-5P and plastid rbcL, in addition to morphological studies, were used to investigate the species in this complex and to compare them with specimens from other countries including the type locality in Italy. The divergences between sequences within the H. musciformis complex were significantly high for both markers. Based on these analyses two new species are described, Hypnea caraibica Nauer, Cassano & M.C. Oliveira sp. nov. and Hypnea schneideri Nauer, Cassano & M.C. Oliveira sp. nov. Hypnea caraibica seems to be a common, widespread species in the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean and was recently introduced into Hawaii. This species was unnoticed due to lack of phylogeographic studies in the region. Hypnea schneideri seems to be more geographically restricted, but further surveys are needed to understand the distribution of this species. Because the identification of Hypnea species is complicated by their relatively simple and plastic morphology, DNA barcoding surveys and other molecular studies are essential to uncover hidden biodiversity in the genus and to supplement traditional studies based on morphology.

AbstractDiplogastrellus metamasius n. sp. (Rhabditidae) was cultured from dauer juveniles recovered during dissections of the West Indian sugarcane weevil, Metamasius hemipterus (Coleoptera: Dryophthoridae), from southern Florida and Costa Rica. Morphological studies of these two isolates with light microscopy and SEM revealed many typological differences between it and the closest putative relative. Based upon molecular and mating studies, the two isolates are conspecific and are described herein as Diplogastrellus metamasius n. sp. Diplogastrellus metamasius n. sp. is characterised by stomatal structure, i.e., cheilostom with thin adradial cuticular flaps, anterior region of gymnostom ring strongly cuticularised and refractile, stegostom forming a structure resembling a 'glottoid' apparatus and possessing a movable, flap-like, dorsal tooth with small ventral ridges, oblong (elongated) median bulb in both sexes, single gonad with short (less than one vulva body diam.) postuterine sac, well developed ovary reflexed posteriorly beyond the vulva, tapered to filiform tail in both sexes, relatively large gubernaculum in males (with arcuate anterior part and pointed distal part in lateral view) and arrangement of the nine pairs of male genital papillae, especially the position of first two pairs which are located far anterior to the cloacal slit. Because of the many possibilities for homoplasy in the morphological characters possessed by the new species and described species in the 'sister' genera of Butlerius, i.e., the arrangement of male caudal papillae, and Paroigolaimella, i.e., the arrangement of cheilostomatal flaps, molecular analysis of more members of these putative clades is necessary before unambiguous generic placement of this new species is possible.
