Discovery of the ichneutine genus Paroligoneurus Muesebeck (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) from the Indian subcontinent with the description of a new species from Northwest India

The small braconid subfamily, Ichneutinae is one of the least studied groups within the Braconidae. Old world species of the widely distributed ichneutine genus, Paroligoneurus (unknown from the Neotropical region) is revised along with description of a new species, P. harishi Ranjith & van Achterberg sp. nov. We reinstate the genera Anaprixia Mason and Muesebeckia Mason based on the following characters; exodont mandibles and absence of spiracles in the alternate tergites (in Anaprixia) and presence of carinae on propodeum and anterior subalar depression with carina (in Muesebeckia). Five species, Paroligoneurus cosmopterygivorus (He, 2000), P. crassicornis (He, 2000), P. flavifacialis (He, 2000), P. sinensis (He, 2000) and P. songyangensis (He, 2000) were described from the Oriental part of China are transferred from Oligoneurus to Paroligoneurus. A taxonomic key to the Old world species Paroligoneurus and a provisional checklist of extant species are provided.

The Miltogramminae of the Neotropical Region are low in species diversity, with no endemic genera (Pape 1996). However, the actual number of Neotropical species in this subfamily is expected to be higher according to the few comprehensive taxonomic revisions (e.g., Pape 1987a, 1989).

The mirine plant bug genus Neolygus Knight is reported from Nepal and North India for the first time, thus representing the first confident distributional record of this genus from the Himalayas. A new species, Neolygus machanensis, is described from Nepal. Two known members, N. bui Lu & Zheng and N. keltoni (Lu & Zheng), newly recognized as occurring in Nepal and/or North India, are diagnosed. Habitus images of live individuals and illustrations of the male genitalia are provided for all treated species. A checklist of the Old World species, and discussion of the systematic position and zoogeography of Neolygus are included. Neolygus partitus (Walker, 1873) [Capsus], N. mjohjangsanicus (Josifov, 1992) [Lygocoris], and Neolygus zebei (Günther, 1997) [Lygocoris] are proposed as new combinations.

Sobarocephala Czerny is divided into nine newly erected species groups: the S. archisobarocephala (4 spp.), S. erwini (3spp.), S. flava (8 New World spp.; 2 Old World spp.), S. flaviseta (86 New World spp.; 1 Old World sp.), S. interrupta (86spp.), S. isla (25 spp.), S. latipennis (16 spp.), S. plumicornis (9 Old World spp.), and S. ruebsaameni (11 spp.) groups; 1species (S. setulocetra spec. nov.) remains unplaced. There are 240 species of Sobarocephala in the New World, including17 Nearctic (2 extend into the Neotropical Region) and 170 new species, some of which were previously considered va-rieties of S. humeralis Melander & Argo. The Neotropical fauna is here described, illustrated, keyed, and placed in a phy-logenetic context. Sobarocephala peruana Soós stat. nov., formerly a subspecies of S. nigronota Melander & Argo, israised to the species level, S. imitans Curran syn. nov. and S. diversipes Curran syn. nov. are synonymized with S. liturataMelander & Argo, S. annulata albiventris Soós syn. nov. is synonymized with S. annulata Melander & Argo, S. albitarsisCzerny syn. nov. is synonymized with S. humeralis, and S. pruinosa pallidor Steyskal syn. n. is synonymized with S. pru-inosa Soós. Lectotypes are designated for S. bistrigata (Kertesz) , S. lumbalis Williston, S. plumicornis Lamb and S. variegata Melander & Argo. The egg of S. uberis spec. nov. is described.

Herina caribbeana Kameneva, sp. n. from Dominica is described and figured. It is related to the narytia group of species, to date represented by 4 North American species, but differs from these by the wing pattern (dark spots at apex of R1 and on the crossbands r-m and dm-cu separated, not forming crossband), as well as male genitalia (prensisetae long and close together). This is the first record of the genus Herina Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 from the Neotropical Region. A key to the New World species is provided.

Recent phylogenetic analysis of the Old World species of Passiflora has indicated that two monotypic genera in the Passifloraceae, Hollrungia and Tetrapathea, are strongly supported as belonging to the genus Passiflora. Additionally, a new species from Australia was found to belong to the same clade as Hollrungia and Tetrapathea. Consequently, a taxonomic revision is presented here of Passiflora subgenus Tetrapathea including these three taxa. Tetrapathea tetrandra, the type of Passiflora subgenus Tetrapathea and historically recognized as both T. tetrandra and P. tetrandra, is formally accepted here as P. tetrandra. The single species of Hollrungia, H. aurantioides, is transferred to Passiflora subgenus Tetrapathea as P. aurantioides. The new and so far unnamed species in Passiflora subgenus Tetrapathea from Australia is also described as P. kuranda sp. nov.

Abstract - A new species of Megagrapha Melander, 1927 and a new species of Tachyempis Melander, 1927 are described. The genus Megagrapha is reported from the Neotropical region for the first time. Megagrapha boliviana n. sp. is related to M. pubescens (Loew,1862), from which it differs in having a yellow occipital region, a linear posterior margin along eye, in the shape of the flagellomere, 1 developed humeral seta, 2 notopleural setae, the different costal index of the wing, yellow first and second abdominal segments and other segments brown. Tachyempis bettellai n. sp. is related to T. gagatina Melander, 1927, from which it differs in having the wing entirely infuscate, yellow coxae, yellow fore and midlegs, hindleg with brown femur and apically brown tibia and the different costal index of the wing.Riassunto - Due nuove specie di ditteri Hybotidae della Bolivia con chiave delle specie mondiali di Megagrapha (Diptera). Vengono descritte una nuova specie di Megagrapha Melander, 1927 e una nuova specie di Tachyempis Melander, 1927 della Bolivia. Il genere Megagrapha è nuovo per la Regione Neotropicale. Megagrapha boliviana n. sp. differisce dall’affine M. pubescens (Loew, 1862) per l’area occipitale gialla, il margine posteriore dell’occhio lineare, la struttura del flagellomero, la presenza di una setola omerale, 2 setole notopleurali, il primo e secondo segmento addominale gialli e gli altri bruni e per il differente indice costale dell’ala; Tachyempis bettellai n. sp. differisce dall’affine T. gagatina Melander, 1927 per le ali uniformemente imbrunite, le anche gialle, le zampe anteriori e mediane interamente gialle, il femore posteriore bruno e la tibia posteriore con l’apice bruno, nonché per il differente indice costale dell’ala.

The Australasian braconine genus Undabracon Quicke, 1986 is recorded from the Indian subcontinent for the first time and we describe a new species, U. binduae Ranjith sp. nov. An illustrated key is provided for all the extant species together with the re-illustration of the species U. jacundus (Enderlein, 1920).

Herina odnosumi sp. nov. from Afghanistan is described and illustrated. Herina odnosumi sp. nov. can be distinguished from all other Old World species by its predominantly reddish yellow body, acute flagellomere 1 and yellow to brown wing pattern. The other Central Asian species, H. monticola (Stackelberg, 1945), previously known from a Russian brief original description and a short illustrated note on its taxonomic position in is also redescribed. A key to the two species of Herina Robineau-Desvoidy occurring in Central Asia is provided.

The subfamily Dirrhopinae van Achterberg, 1984 is reported from the Indian subcontinent for the first time. A new species, Dirrhope indica Ranjith sp. nov. is hereby described and illustrated. An updated key to the extant species of Dirrhope is provided along with illustrations of the following species; D. eoa Belokobylskij, D. minor Belokobylskij, and D. rufa Foerster.
