A review of the genus Anthocomus Erichson, 1840 (Coleoptera, Cleroidea, Malachiidae) species of Inner Asia

The distribution and species diversity of the genus Anthocomus Erichson, 1840 of Inner Asia are discussed. Nine species, Anthocomus (Celidus) equestris (Fabricius, 1781), Anthocomus (Anthocomus) abdominalis Pic, 1903, A.( A.) coreanus Pic, 1911, A. (A.) cyaneipennis Wittmer, 1940, A. (A.) limbellus (Wittmer, 1953), A. (A.) lineatipennis Wittmer, 1995, A. (A.) mongolicus Wittmer, 1969, A. (A.) similicornis Wittmer, 1999 and A. (A.) testaceoterminalis Wittmer, 1995 known from the region and adjacent territories are reviewed. The placement of four species, ? A. (A.) coreanus Pic, 1911, ? A. (A.) cyaneipennis Wittmer, 1940, ? A. (A.) limbellus (Wittmer, 1953) and ? A. (A.) mongolicus Wittmer, 1969 in the genus Anthocomus Erichson is discussed as doubtful. A new species, Anthocomus (Anthocomus) kovali Tshernyshev, sp. n. from Wexi mountains, Yunnan Province, China is described and illustrated. The new species differs in its monochromous orange-yellow elytra with orange-red apical impressions yellow within, appendages orange-brown, head, pronotum, scutellum and palpi dark brown to black and lacking metallic luster, antennae dark brown.

Abstract Among Antarctic amphipods of the genus Eusirus, a highly distinctive clade of giant species is characterized by a dorsal, blade-shaped tooth on pereionites 5–7 and pleonites 1–3. This lineage, herein named ‘crested Eusirus’, includes two potential species complexes, the Eusirus perdentatus and Eusirus giganteus complexes, in addition to the more distinctive Eusirus propeperdentatus. Molecular phylogenies and statistical parsimony networks (COI, CytB and ITS2) of crested Eusirus are herein reconstructed. This study aims to formally revise species diversity within crested Eusirus by applying several species delimitation methods (Bayesian implementation of the Poisson tree processes model, general mixed Yule coalescent, multi-rate Poisson tree processes and automatic barcode gap discovery) on the resulting phylogenies. In addition, results from the DNA-based methods are benchmarked against a detailed morphological analysis of all available specimens of the E. perdentatus complex. Our results indicate that species diversity of crested Eusirus is underestimated. Overall, DNA-based methods suggest that the E. perdentatus complex is composed of three putative species and that the E. giganteus complex includes four or five putative species. The morphological analysis of available specimens from the E. perdentatus complex corroborates molecular results by identifying two differentiable species, the genuine E. perdentatus and a new species, herein described as Eusirus pontomedon sp. nov.

The Atlantic Forest of Brazil includes one of the highest species diversity and endemism in the planet, representing a priority for biodiversity conservation. A new species of Anemopaegma from the Atlantic Forest of Brazil is here described, illustrated and compared to its closest relatives. Anemopaegma nebulosum Firetti-Leggieri & L.G. Lohmann has been traditionally treated as a morph of Anemopaegma prostratum; however, additional morphological and anatomical studies indicated that A. nebulosum differs significantly from A. prostratum and is best treated as a separate species. More specifically, A. nebulosum is characterized by elliptic and coriaceous leaflets (vs. ovate to orbicular and membranaceous in A. prostratum), smaller leaflet blades (3.6–5.5 x 2.0–3.0 cm vs. 6.7–13.0 x 4.2–8.4 cm in A. prostratum), orbicular prophylls of the axillary buds (vs. no prophylls in A. prostratum), solitary flowers (vs. multi-flowered axillary racemes in A. prostratum) and a gibbous corolla (vs. infundibuliform corollas in A. prostratum). In addition, A. nebulosum differs from A. prostratum anatomically in having thicker leaflet blades composed of two to four layers of palisade parenchyma (vs. one to three layers in A. prostratum), and seven to eight layers in the spongy parenchyma (vs. six to eight layers in A. prostratum). A key for the identification of all species of Anemopaegma from the Atlantic Forest of Brazil is presented.

Junewangia aquatica sp. nov., a new Acrodictys-like fungus was collected on submerged wood from freshwater habitats in Yunnan Province, China. J. aquatica is characterized by its flared conidiophores with percurrent proliferations, monoblastic, terminal or intercalary, cylindrical conidiogenous cells, and subglobose to broadly ellipsoidal conidia with transverse and oblique septa. A phylogenetic tree of Acrodictys-like species was inferred from multi-locus (SSU, ITS and LSU) sequences. A key to the species of Junewangia is provided.

Mangroves create unique ecological environments, furnishing a habitat opportunity for many species. The majority of published information on mangrove sponges comes from the Caribbean while few data are available from Indo-Pacific mangrove sponges. In general, species diversity of sponges in mangroves is lower than adjacent subtidal habitats in both the Caribbean and Indo-Pacific. The aim of this study is to report the first data about sponge species diversity of two mangrove forests from Bangka Island (North Sulawesi, Indonesia) and to describe a new sponge species associated with the mangroves. The survey found 19 species, belonging to 11 families and 15 genera; the samples were collected on mangrove trunks, on the roots or on the surrounding bottom. The majority of the species are typical of coral reef but two of them have been previously found only in lagoons or in mangrove habitats. These new data enlarge our knowledge about Indonesian sponges diversity and suggest the urgency to consider Indonesian mangroves as an important but underestimated element in coral reef ecological dynamics.

Abstract A new species of freshwater crab of the genus Teretamon Yeo & Ng, 2007, Teretamon husicum sp. nov., is described here from Husa Town, Longchuan County, Dehong Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China. Teretamon husicum sp. nov. can be distinguished from other species by a suite of morphological characters, including a bilobed frontal margin, smooth posterolateral regions, and a broadly rounded dorsal flap on the G1 terminal segment. An updated identification key for the species of the genus Teretamon is provided.

Habenaria luquanensis from Yunnan Province is described and illustrated. This new species most closely resembles H. delavayi in having a basal leaf rosette, flowers with a concave and abaxially keeled dorsal sepal and linear petals. It is distinguished by herbaceous, loosely arranged rosette leaves (versus tightly adpressed to each other), a lip which is 3-lobed only to 1/3–1/4 from the base and has narrowly oblong lateral lobes (versus deeply 3-lobed nearly to the base with linear-cuneate lateral lobes). Another similar species is H. finetiana, but this species can be distinguished by its cauline leaves, longer floral bracts, petals forming a hood with the dorsal sepal, a lip which is 3-lobed only in the upper half and  rhombic, serrate lateral lobes, a spur which is nearly as long as the ovary, and central rostellum lobe not clearly visible.

Meiogyne oligocarpa sp. nov. (Annonaceae) is described from Yunnan Province in Southwest China. It is easily distinguished from all previously described Meiogyne species by the possession of up to four carpels per flower, its bilobed, sparsely hairy stigma, biseriate ovules and cylindrical monocarps with a beaked apex. A phylogenetic analysis was conducted to confirm the placement of this new species within Meiogyne. Meiogyne oligocarpa represents the second species of Meiogyne in China: a key to the species of Meiogyne in China is provided to distinguish it from Meiogyne hainanensis. Paraffin sectioning was undertaken to study the anatomy of the corrugations on the inner petals of Meiogyne oligocarpa to verify whether they are glandular.

A new species Sybistroma genriki sp. n. from the Yunnan province of China is described. It belongs to S. incisa group of species, differing from other species in mostly yellow antenna with arista-like stylus much longer than postpedicel; postpedicel elongated, much longer than wide, acute apically; stylus apical, with dark and white apical swelling; lower postocular setae white; legs mostly yellow except mostly black mid and hind coxae and brown-black distal spot on hind femur. A key to 11 species from Sichuan and Yunnan is provided, based mainly on male secondary sexual characters. The known distribution of the dolichopodine genus Sybistroma Meigen, 1824, is briefly discussed.

A new species of the genus Nemoura, N. latilongispina sp. nov. from Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province, southwestern China is described and illustrated. The new species is characterized by ventral sclerite of epiproct extended laterally, forming upcurved plates fringed with long spines along upper margin, and by the strongly sclerotized, fork-shaped cercus.

The harvestman genus Bonea Roewer, 1914 and its type species B. sarasinorum Roewer, 1914 are redescribed based on the type material. In addition, two new species of Bonea from Hainan Island, China, are described and illustrated: B. zhui sp. nov. and B. tridigitata sp. nov. A new species of Lomanius Roewer, 1923 from Yunnan Province, China, is also described and illustrated: L. bulbosus sp. nov.. Keys to the 10 species of Bonea and the six species of Lomanius are provided. Paralomanius Goodnight & Goodnight, 1948 is revalidated from the synonymy of Lomanius, carrying as junior synonym Eulomanius Roewer, 1949, and containing two species from Micronesia (Paralomanius longipalpus Goodnight & Goodnight, 1948) and Philippines (Paralomanius mindanaoensis (Suzuki, 1977) new status). Bonea is transferred from the Ibaloniinae to Podoctinae. These are the first records of named species of Podoctidae from China.
