Adaptive boundary control and vibration suppression of a flexible satellite system with input saturation

In this paper, the vibration suppression problem of a flexible satellite system is addressed. The dynamic model of the flexible satellite system is expressed by a set of non-homogeneous partial differential equations (PDEs). By using the theory of systems with uniform ultimate bounded (UUB) solutions and adaptive techniques, adaptive boundary control is presented to suppress the vibration of the flexible satellite with parametric uncertainties. A disturbance adaptive law is constructed to compensate for the effect of the boundary disturbance, and an auxiliary system is considered to mitigate the effect of input saturation. The well-posedness of the closed-loop system is discussed, and UUB stability can be ensured through a rigorous Lyapunov-like analysis. Numerical simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

This paper is concerned with the design of boundary control for globally stabilizing a flexible marine riser system. The dynamics of the riser system are represented in the form of hybrid partial–ordinary differential equations. Firstly, when the system state available for feedback is unmeasurable, an observer backstepping method is employed to reconstruct the system state and then design the boundary control for vibration suppression of the riser system. Subsequently, for the case that the system states in the designed control law cannot be accurately obtained, the high-gain observers are utilized to estimate those unmeasurable system states. With the proposed control, the uniformly ultimately bounded stability of the closed-loop system is demonstrated by the use of Lyapunov’s synthetic method and the state observer error is converged exponentially to zero as time approaches to infinity. In addition, the disturbance observer is introduced to track external environmental disturbance. Finally, the control performance of the closed-loop system is validated by carrying out numerical simulation.

This article describes an investigation of a boundary control for vibration suppression of an axially moving accelerated or decelerated belt system with input saturation. Firstly, after considering the effects of the high acceleration or deceleration and unknown distributed disturbance, an infinite-dimensional model of the belt system is described by a nonhomogeneous partial differential equation and a set of ordinary differential equations. Secondly, by synthesizing boundary control techniques and Lyapunov’s direct method, a boundary control is developed to suppress the belt’s vibration and to stabilize the belt system at its equilibrium position globally; an auxiliary system is proposed to compensate for the nonlinear input saturation characteristic; a disturbance adaptation law is employed to mitigate the effects of unknown boundary disturbance; and the S-curve acceleration/deceleration method is adopted to plan the belt’s axial speed. Thirdly, with the proposed boundary control, the wellposedness of the closed-loop belt system is mathematically demonstrated and uniformly bounded stability of the closed-loop system is achieved without any discretization of the system dynamic model. Finally, simulation results are presented to verify the validity and effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

This paper studies the attitude-tracking control problem of spacecraft considering on-orbit refuelling. A time-varying inertia model is developed for spacecraft on-orbit refuelling, which actually includes two processes: fuel in the transfer pipe and fuel in the tank. Based upon the inertia model, an adaptive attitude-tracking controller is derived to guarantee the stability of the resulted closed-loop system, as well as asymptotic convergence of the attitude-tracking errors, despite performing refuelling operations. Finally, numerical simulations illustrate the effectiveness and performance of the proposed control scheme.

Logic-based switching adaptive control scheme is proposed for the model of DC-DC buck converter in presence of uncertain parameters and power supply disturbance. All uncertain parameters and the disturbance are estimated together through constructing Lyapunov function. And a switching mechanism is used to ensure global asymptotic stability of the closed-loop system. The results of simulation show that even if there are multiple unknown parameters in the small-signal model, the control system of DC-DC buck converter can estimate unknown parameters quickly and accurately.

This paper studies the problem of the adaptive neural control for a class of high-order uncertain stochastic nonlinear systems. By using some techniques such as the backstepping recursive technique, Young’s inequality, and approximation capability, a novel adaptive neural control scheme is constructed. The proposed control method can guarantee that the signals of the closed-loop system are bounded in probability, and only one parameter needs to be updated online. One example is given to show the effectiveness of the proposed control method.

The electric sail (ES) is a novel propellantless propulsion concept, which extracts the solar wind momentum by repelling the positively charged ions. Due to the difficulty of attitude adjustment by the large flexible structure and the uncertainty of ion density, velocity and electron temperature by solar wind, there exist thrust input uncertainty and saturation with time-varying bounds for ES. The trajectory tracking problem for ES in three-dimensional (3-D) space is studied, and the composite sliding mode control scheme with corresponding guidance strategy is proposed for the single-input–multiple-output (SIMO) non-linear system. The hierarchical sliding surfaces are constructed with an auxiliary design system to analyse the effect of input saturation constraints and decouple the SIMO non-linear system to reduce the control complexity. Also, the disturbance estimation based on a super-twisting algorithm is employed to decrease the switch chattering and improve the system robustness. It is proved that all the sliding mode surfaces are asymptotically stable, and all the signals of the closed-loop system are bounded with input saturation constraints. Furthermore, all the signals are converging to zero and the closed-loop system is asymptotically stable without saturation. Finally, the simulation demonstrates the proposed composite sliding mode control is fit for ES 3-D trajectory tracking.

The purpose of this research is to conduct a preliminary investigation into the possibility of suppressing the flutter and post-flutter (chaotic) responses of a two-dimensional self-excited airfoil with a cubic nonlinear stiffness (in torsion) and linear viscous damping via closed-loop harmonic parametric excitation. It was found that the initial configuration of the proposed control scheme caused the torsional/pitch dynamics to act as a nonlinear energy sink; as a result, it was identified that the mechanisms of vibration suppression are the resonance capture cascade and the short duration or isolated resonance capture. It is the isolated resonance capture that is responsible for the second-order-like damping and full vibration suppression of the aeroelastic system. The unforced and closed-loop system was subjected to random excitation to simulate aerodynamic turbulence. It was found that the random excitation suppresses the phase-coherent chaotic response, and the closed-loop system is susceptible to random excitation.

This paper proposes a stable adaptive fuzzy control scheme for a class of nonlinear systems with multiple inputs. The multiple inputs T-S fuzzy bilinear model is established to represent the unknown complex systems. A parallel distributed compensation (PDC) method is utilized to design the fuzzy controller without considering the error due to fuzzy modelling and the sufficient conditions of the closed-loop system stability with respect to decay rateαare derived by linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Then the errors caused by fuzzy modelling are considered and the method of adaptive control is used to reduce the effect of the modelling errors, and dynamic performance of the closed-loop system is improved. By Lyapunov stability criterion, the resulting closed-loop system is proved to be asymptotically stable. The main contribution is to deal with the differences between the T-S fuzzy bilinear model and the real system; a global asymptotically stable adaptive control scheme is presented for real complex systems. Finally, illustrative examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the results proposed in this paper.

A class of stochastic systems with multiple disturbances, which includes white noises and disturbances whose time derivative is bounded, is considered in this paper. To estimate the unknown bounded disturbance, a stochastic disturbance observer is proposed. Based on the observer, a disturbance observer-based disturbance control scheme is constructed such that the composite closed-loop system is asymptotically bounded. Finally, a simulation example is given to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

In this paper, an adaptive robust fault-tolerant control scheme is developed for attitude tracking control of a medium-scale unmanned autonomous helicopter with rotor flapping dynamics, external unknown disturbances and actuator faults. For the convenience of control design, the actuator dynamics with respect to the tail rotor are introduced. The adaptive fault observer and robust item are employed to observe the actuator faults and eliminate the effect of external disturbances, respectively. A backstepping-based robust fault-tolerant control scheme is designed with the aim of obtaining satisfactory tracking performance and closed-loop system stability is proved via Lyapunov analysis, which guarantees the convergence of all closed-loop system signals. Simulation results are given to show the effectiveness of the proposed control method.
