Cosmetic facial surgery procedures and therapies have continued to evolve with an emphasis on minimally invasive techniques with a shorter recovery time. We present a how-to guide for nonsurgical rhinoplasty including the use of different hyaluronic acid fillers. We provide examples of before and after patient photos as well as photos demonstrating our technique. This technical note highlights the popular concept of minimally invasive nasal contouring using dermal fillers. As such, we provide a brief overview of different dermal fillers that can be used for this application, potential problems and complications, as well as remedies. Dermal fillers have become an entry point into cosmetic surgery for many patients. Our technique of nasal contouring with hyaluronic acid fillers in particular yields safe, effective, and repeatable results.

Increasing demands of patients for gingival esthetic and management of deficient papillae in the anterior region had stimulated minimally invasive techniques for papilla reconstruction with biological molecules. Purpose: To evaluate the effect of hyaluronic gel injections in deficient papillae and monitor the results for a 6-months period. Materials and methods: 57 class I and class II deficient papillae were included. 4 weeks after scaling and root planning hyaluronic acid gel was injected in the papillae. The injections were repeated in 20 days. Measurements of papilla height were done on the clinical photographs. The distance between the contact point (complete fill of interproximal space) to the most coronal level of the visible gingival margin was measured before treatment and on months 1, 3 and 6 and compared to baseline. Results: There was a statistically significant change in the papilla level and fill of the interproximal space, ranging from 59% papilla gain on the first month, 72% to the third month and 77% on 6 months. Conclusion: Hyaluronic acid gel is a reliable method for mini-invasive papilla augmentation, especially in class I and class II papilla deficiencies.

AbstractTransoral needle procedures are minimally invasive techniques derived from the transoral (or transoropharyngeal) approach to the upper cervical spine and clival region. They are indicated for diagnostic procedures and vertebroplasty. These techniques are appropriated to access midline pathologies from the lower clivus to the C2-C3 disk. This article describes in a step by step manner, the technique and indications for needle biopsy and vertebroplasty in this region, discussing technical nuances.

Dermal fillers have been in use for many years for aesthetic rejuvenation of the face. More recently, however, fillers have been increasingly used as an alternative to traditional surgical procedures for non-aesthetic indications. These indications include lagophthalmos, eyelid malpositions and orbital volume deficiency. The advantages of these filler injections are multiple: minimally invasive, repeatable, titratable and even reversible (depending on the product used). We review the current literature of functional uses of filler injections as mentioned above and evaluate the safety profile and efficacy of filler injections for this purpose.

Esophageal cancer is the sixth leading cause of death from cancer worldwide. Esophageal resection is the mainstay treatment for cancers of the esophagus. While curative, surgical resection may result in swallowing difficulties that require intervention from speech-language pathologists (SLPs). Minimally invasive surgical procedures for esophageal resection have aimed to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with more invasive techniques. Both intra-operative and post-operative complications, regardless of the surgical approach, can result in dysphagia. This article will review the epidemiological impact of esophageal cancers, operative complications resulting in dysphagia, and clinical assessment and management of dysphagia pertinent to esophageal resection.

Gummy smile is a characteristic in which the patient exposes more than 2 mm of keratinized gingiva in forced smile. With a multifactorial cause, its correct planning depends directly on the correct diagnosis. Usually, the procedures that involve manipulation and the enlargement of the aesthetical crown lengthening are surgical. The objective of this case series was to show the advantages of surgical crown augmentation surgery in aesthetic areas with minimally invasive techniques. Three cases of gummy smile were presented, with different treatment plans and techniques for execution. In the 3 cases, bone removal was performed with piezoelectric ultrasound, which made the postoperative more comfortable for patients. These cases illustrate the use of technology to reduce morbidity in patients who need to undergo bone removal to treat gingival smile.
