In a typical part manufacturing system, machining operations represent a major proportion of the total energy consumption. The energy consumption (in the form of electricity power) of a machining operation can be divided into four types, that is, standby power, operational power, cutting power and power loss due to cutting load. Power loss due to cutting load includes the power loss caused by the friction of mechanical transmission and the power lost in the motor when the cutting load is applied to the spindle system. While the first three types of power consumption have been studied intensively by previous researchers, the power loss due to cutting load, which accounts for up to 20% of the cutting power consumption during machining operations, has received relatively less attention. This article proposes a novel model to characterize power loss due to cutting load, in which the power lost in the mechanical transmission and in the spindle motor are analyzed and modeled separately. Cutting tests have been carried out to validate the proposed model using two numerical control lathe machines. And a method has been developed for reducing energy loss caused by cutting load, which includes cutting force prediction, power loss due to cutting load prediction and decision making. The method was evaluated through its application in the process design for a shaft part, and the results show a significant saving of up to 70.8% of energy loss caused by cutting load.

Multi-block gray statistics local dimming algorithm is proposed to automatically control the brightness of the backlight for reducing energy consumption and enhancing the image quality. The large blocks are used to determine the value of backlight matrix and small blocks are to determine the image block brightness. With the use of BMA (Blur-mask approach) to blur the backlight brightness matrix and compensate LCD control signal, local dimming function is realized. The simulation results show that: for pictures, the average backlight power consumption is decreased markedly by 19.9% and the contrast ratio is increased by 53%.

In this paper, based on the new concept air power of pneumatic system’s energy consumption, we proposed series of practical program to optimize the air supply system. This program discussed a method of how to keep air pressure stable and how to make the amount of air compressors to match the real-time air consumption after using different air pressure for different devices, thus reducing energy loss of air supply system and energy consumption of air compressor group. The result of present work implied that this program achieved the desired effect of energy saving and provided a reference for energy-saving pneumatic system’s design.

Cloud datacenter provides the various resources on-demand for the end consumers on pay-per-use through internet connection. The request for computing resources has increased which leads to the growth of power consumption inside datacenters. The major challenge is how to balance the profits by decreasing the consumption of energy and violation of SLA. VM Consolidation techniques helps VMs to migrate between the host machines in reducing energy consumption, but again which VM to select for migration between the host machine is again the challenging task. In this paper VMs Mean and Minimum Utilization VM Selection Algorithm is proposed. To select the suitable VM’s in host machine for the migration, VMs Mean method is used which finds the lowest CPU utilizing VM. To test this algorithm CloudSim Toolkit is been used. The parameter such as EC, SLAV, PDM, ESV, VM migration and SLATAH is used as a metric to evaluate the Algorithm efficiency.

Machining operations are performed by machine tools with a large amount of energy consumed for material removal. Understanding and characterizing the energy consumption is essential to explore the potential of energy-saving in energy-efficient machining. For this purpose, this paper proposes a method for modeling energy consumption of end milling operation which is based on cutting theory. The cutting power model is verified with experiments on a CNC milling machine. According to the calculated and experimental results, it is clear that the theoretical prediction can predict the mean cutting power successfully as validated by actual measurements.

This paper’s persistence is to make an inclusive analysis of 268 documents about specific energy consumption (SEC) in machining operations from 2001 to 2020 in the Scopus database. A systematic approach collects information on SEC documents’ primary data; their types, publications, citations, and predictions are presented. The VOSviewer 1.1.16 and Biblioshiny 2.0 software are used for visualization analysis to show the progress standing of SEC publications. The selection criteria of documents are set for citation analysis. The ranks are assigned to the most prolific and dominant authors, sources, articles, countries, and organizations based on the total citations, number of documents, average total citation, and total link strength. The author-keywords, index-keywords, and text data content analysis has been conducted to find the hotspots and progress trend in SEC in machining operations. The most prolific and dominant article, source, author, organization, and country are Anderson et al. “Laser-assisted machining of Inconel 718 with an economic analysis”, the Int J Mach Tools Manuf, Shin Y.C., form Purdue University Singapore, and United States, respectively, based on total citations as per defined criteria. The author keywords “specific cutting energy” and “surface roughness” dominate the machining operations SEC. SEC’s implication in machining operations review and bibliometric analysis is to deliver an inclusive perception for the scholars working in this field. It is the primary paper that utilizes bibliometric research to analyze the SEC in machining operations publications expansively. It is valuable for scholars to grasp the hotspots in this field in time and help the researchers in the SEC exploration arena rapidly comprehend the expansion status and trend.
