This study of HIV-positive women at a clinic for HIV/AIDS in São Paulo examined their risk perception for HIV before they had learned of their diagnosis and their experiences with pre- and post-test counselling. A sample of 148 women was interviewed regarding demographics, HIV risk factors and risk perception, pre- and post-test counselling, and sexual and reproductive conduct. The majority (77%) had been infected by their partners—37% by an injecting drug user partner. More than half (53%) did not perceive themselves at risk before learning of their HIV status and, of 68 who had perceived themselves at risk, 29% did so only after their partners became ill. The majority (64%) did not receive any kind of pre-test counselling. Post-test counselling was reported by 83% but 14% reported being mishandled by a physician in the process. Findings suggest the importance of prevention efforts to reduce women's barriers to learning about HIV status and the necessity of improving the quality of pre- and post-test counselling.

Abstract Background Dual contraceptive is the use of a barrier like condom along with any modern contraceptive methods which has double significance for the prevention STI including HIV and unintended pregnancy. The prevalence and determinants of dual contraceptive utilization described by different studies were highly inconsistent in Ethiopia. Therefore, this systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to estimate the pooled prevalence and determinants of dual contraceptive utilization among HIV positive women in Ethiopia. Methods International database mainly Pub Med, Google scholar, HINARI, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, AJOL was applied to identify original studies. STATA software version 14 was applied to analyze the pooled prevalence of dual contraceptive. I2 test statistics was computed to check the presence of heterogeneity across the studies and eggers test was used to identify publication bias. The pooled prevalence of dual contraceptive utilization was estimated by using a random effects model. The associations between determinants and dual contraceptive utilization were evaluated by using both random and fixed effect models. Result A total 9 studies with 9168 HIV positive women were enrolled in this study. The pooled prevalence of dual contraceptive utilization among HIV positive women in Ethiopia was 26.14% (95% CI 21.20–31.08). Disclosure of HIV status (OR = 4.18,95%CI:2.26–7.72), partner involvement in post-test counselling (OR = 2.31,95%CI:1.63–3.25), open discussion about dual contraceptive with partner (OR = 4.27 95% CI:1.69–10.77), provision of counselling on dual contraceptives by health care provider (OR = 4.47,95% CI:3.81–5.24) and CD4 count > 350 cells/ mm3 (OR = 3.87,95%CI:3.53–4.23) were among the significant factors associated with dual contraceptive utilization. Conclusion The overall prevalence of dual contraceptive utilization among HIV positive women was significantly low. Disclosure of HIV status, partner involvement in post-test counselling, open discussion about dual contraceptive with partner, counselling on dual contraceptive by health care provider and CD4 count > 350 cells/ mm3 were positively affect dual contraceptive utilization. This study implies the need to develop plans and policies to improve partner involvement posttest counseling, integrate the counseling and provision of dual contraceptive at ART clinic at each level of health system.

Abstract: When knowledge is transmitted only in a unidirectional way targeted students tend not to fully interact and are consequently and as listeners just partially involved, thus generating lack of interest in learning. Starting from this premise, we developed a didactic game with the Teaching Initiation Scholarship Institutional Program (PIBID) designed to corroborate the quality of education in biology. Th e game deals with the theme ‘’Ecological Relations’’, where each student takes part in the construction of knowledge together with the classroom teacher. Th e game ‘’Passa ou Repassa da Biologia” was made and tested in a public school in the south of Sao Paulo city (Sao Paulo State, Brazil), where 130 students participated in three stages of didactic intervention (Pre-Test, Game and Post-Test). Th e use of the game gave students a better understanding of the content of ecological relations and proved to be a tool that contributes positively to the process of teaching and learning. Keywords: Ecological Relations; Educational Game; Teaching Learning.

WOMEN'S QUALITY OF LIFE AND ASSOCIATED SOCIO DEMOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICSObjective: to analyze the sociodemographic characteristics associated to the perception of the quality of life of the women attended in the Primary Health Care. Methodology: this cross-sectional quantitative study was carried out with 113 women aged 20 to 65 years in a health unit in the interior of São Paulo. A sociodemographic questionnaire and the abbreviated version of the WHOQOL-bref quality of life assessment instrument were used. For data analysis, association tests were undertaken. Results: the majority of participants were from less favored social classes and had a good perception of quality of life and health. The factors income, schooling and age were the most relevant in the association with quality of life. Conclusion: in view of the sociodemographic characteristics associated with quality of life in the present study, it is emphasized that health actions should be linked to broader policies to reduce social vulnerability, enabling empowerment strategies and, above all, increasing women's access to education and income.Descriptors: Quality of Life; Health Centers; Social Vulnerability; Women; Primary Health Care.CALIDAD DE VIDA DE LAS MUJERES Y LAS CARACTERÍSTICAS SOCIODEMOGRÁFICAS ASSOCIADASObjetivo: analizar las características sociodemográficas asociadas a la percepción de la calidad de vida de mujeres que acuden a atención primaria. The consumption of lamb meat in Brazil has increased in the last years but little information about the microbiological quality of this product is available. To evaluate the hygienic-sanitary conditions of lamb carcasses, the quantification of microorganism populations indicators (mesophiles and psychrotrophs; total and thermotolerant coliforms; Escherichia coli; moulds and yeasts) and the pathogenic microorganisms indentification (Salmonella sp. and Listeria spp.) were performed. A total of 60 lamb carcasses were sampled from one abattoir in São Paulo. Swab samples were collected from three points (forequarter, back and hindquarter) on the muscle surface after carcasses final washing. Statistical analysis consisted of descriptive evaluation of the results whose counts were grouped by intervals of microorganism populations. Counts ranged from 1.0 x 10¹ to 8.0 x 10(4) colony-forming unit cm-2 (CFU cm-2) for mesophiles; 1.0 x 10(0) to 4.4 x 10(4)CFU cm-2 for psychrotrophs; < 1.0 x 10(0) to 4.4 x 10(4)CFU cm-2 for moulds and yeasts; < 0.3 to > 32.0 most probable number/cm² (MPN cm-2) for total and thermotolerant coliforms and Escherichia coli. Salmonella sp. and Listeria spp. were not found in any of the carcasses. Most carcasses presented low counts for all microorganisms. Overall results may be explained by the small size of the industry where the study was taken. Results suggest that good microbiological quality lamb meat is possible to be obtained, but improvement in hygienic-sanitary conditions is still required.
