Concentration of learning is an effort to focus the mind or attention to a subject that is being studied and to memorize the Al-quran by setting aside other things that have nothing to do with what is being studied. There are some students who are easy to accept the lessons / memorize al-quran, and otherwise, there are several students too who have difficulty. Ash-Shidiqi Integrated Islamic Junior High School is a school that refers to the education office curriculum and the Indonesian Integrated Islamic School Curriculum with the flagship program Quantum Tahfizh, but in practice many students find it difficult to concentrate on memorizing Al-Qur'an. The results of interviews with students Ash-Shidiqi Integrated Islamic Junior High School, it is difficult to focus on their concentration in memorizing  Al-qur'an because the school environment is not conductive, this is beside the according with the observations of researchers that many students are looking for a place to be alone in memorizing Al-qur 'an and sometimes students was found  themselves to covering their heads with a bag to concentrate on memorizing. This type of research is quasi experimental (pseudo experiment). This study design had a control group, but it was not selected by randomly. In this study the researchers used two groups, namely the treatment group who were given brain exercise with a frequency of 6 times a week, light intensity, with duration of 1 exercise. The results showed that in the pre-test and post-test intervention groups there was p = 0.008 or p <0.05. It means that there are significant differences in the ability to memorize before and after being given brain exercise. Whereas in the control group p = 0.063 or p> 0.05 that means there is no significant difference between the pre-test and post-test results because they are not given brain exercise. This research is expected to make a good contribution to Ash-Shidiqi Integrated Islamic Junior High School in implementing the Quantum Tahfizh Program and will provide input in preparing the SMP-IT school program based on tahfizh al-quran

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to propose an alternative approach to the think-pair-share active learning method and assess it for outcomes.Design/methodology/approachThis paper evaluates student knowledge of the course content presented in the study (data analytics and artificial intelligence) using a pre- and post-test process with control (lecture-based) and test (active learning) groups. A mixed method approach was used. The quantitative portion included the test scores being analyzed statistically. The qualitative portion included analyzing the open-ended question on the post-test.FindingsThe results note that the active learning exercise improves student learning outcomes in a statistically significant manner (p < 0.001). The open-ended question on the post-test provides positive student feedback.Originality/valueThe active learning exercise used in this study offers an alternate approach to the “think” and “pair” portions of the think-pair-share method and determines whether learning outcomes are improved after implementation of the alternative method.

Introduction: The graduating medical student transitioning to the role of a first-year medical resident is expected to know the proper medications and dosages for routine patient conditions. Pharmacists on an interdisciplinary health care team can be effective teachers of medical residents. Given the small amount of pharmacy-based education included in medical school curricula, it is important that medical residents have a basic foundation of pharmacotherapeutic knowledge. The purpose of this study was to assess the effectiveness of a pharmacist-led education session in improving medical resident pharmacotherapy knowledge. Methods: During orientation in 2016 to 2019, first-year medical residents completed an 8-item pre-test assessing their choices of medications and dosages on 8 patient conditions. A post-test assessing these same items was taken after a 50-minute lecture from a pharmacist experienced in resident education. First-year medical residents at a separate institution within the university system completed the pre-test only. Results: Overall, 243 medical residents received the lecture and took both tests and 170 medical residents at the other institution completed the pre-test only (100% response rate). Using descriptive statistics, the 2 groups of medical residents were comparable in age, gender, and scores on the pre-test. Medical residents receiving the lecture showed an average 32% point change improvement in performance on the post-test. The pharmacist-led lecture consistently received the highest ratings (4.7 ± 0.5 out of 5) from residents of all the orientation topics presented. Conclusions: A pharmacist-led education session increased the pharmacotherapy knowledge of first-year medical residents at their resident orientation. Medical residents value reinforcement of basic pharmacotherapy knowledge to start their training.

Per its English curriculum, vocabulary instruction is only integrated indirectly in the teaching of reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in Malaysian schools. ESL learners then may overlook the variety of meanings that a word and its spelling can offer. This research aims to describe the effects of the explicit approach of vocabulary instruction on 30 Form Two (eighth grade) students from a suburban school in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia. A descriptive style was adopted, and specific vocabulary lessons were used to help students learn the target words. Using descriptive statistics, vocabulary pre- and post-test scores were analysed and compared to determine the impact of this approach. The frequency counts, percentages, mean scores, and standard deviation of the students’ evaluation form responses were analysed. Content analysis was used to transcribe, classify, and categorise qualitative data from the interview session. According to the data, the students’ vocabulary scores increased dramatically in the post-test, with a mean gap of 21.9. The students were also enthusiastic about the teacher’s instructions (M=4.48, SD=0.64) and vocabulary lessons (M=4.34, SD=0.59). It is suggested that the explicit approach of vocabulary instruction, which engages students in exciting vocabulary learning techniques as employed by this study could enhance their vocabulary knowledge.

Abstract Background: To evaluate the efficacy of a perceptual and adaptive learning module (PALM) for teaching the identification of five optic nerve findings. Methods: In this prospective trial at a single academic institution, second- through fourth-year medical students were randomized, by class, to the PALM or a video didactic lecture. The PALM presented the learner with a short classification task consisting of an optic nerve image with all five possible findings. Learner accuracy and response time were used to guide the sequencing of successive classification tasks. Mastery for each finding was defined as three consecutive correct identifications within a target response time of eight seconds. The lecture intervention was a narrated video designed to simulate the related part of a traditional medical school didactic lecture. Accuracy and fluency on a pre-test, post-test, and delayed test (one month after the learning intervention) were compared within and between groups using the t-test. Cohen’s d was used to estimate effect size. Results: Eighty-three students participated. Accuracy and fluency improved significantly (P < 0.001) from pre-test to immediate post-test for both the PALM (accuracy d = 2.94, fluency d = 3.39) and lecture (accuracy d = 2.32, fluency d = 1.06). At the delayed test, PALM performance remained significantly (P < 0.001) greater than the pre-test in both accuracy (d = 0.89) and fluency (d = 1.16), while lecture performance remained greater in accuracy only (d = 0.44, P = 0.02). The PALM induced greater improvements than the lecture in both accuracy and fluency on the immediate post-test and delayed test. Conclusions: The PALM is an effective modality for training identification of common optic nerve findings.
