This chapter explores the design of a framework for up-scaling a lecturer professional development strategy based upon communities of practice from pockets of excellence to span across a university utilizing a cMOOC framework. The framework links global experts into an authentic professional development experience via the integration of a range of mobile social media learning technologies. The framework includes a series of triggering events designed to support the development of participants' personal eportfolios and pedagogical practice that can then be optionally validated by external CMALT accreditation. We believe the framework provides a transferable professional development model for other institutions to explore.

Tourism growth is a trend in the 21st century. And more for Colombia, which in recent years has undergone a process of social and political transformation, which has strengthened security indicators, so the country has become a very popular international tourist destination. This book presents a competitive development model for the tourism sector in the research and implementation phases. To do this, we expose the case of the southwest of Antioquia. We begin with the analysis of the relevant strategies to achieve the competitiveness of the tourism cluster in this subregion as a development engine. From there, we present conclusions and recommendations that contribute to choosing more efficient strategies to standardize services in productive units that want to act as a network of companies. Also, we show some forms of organization that can make the management of a tourism product, resources, and competitiveness of the subregion more efficient; as well as the aspects that should continue to be strengthened for the construction of a product in this field. The southwest of Antioquia has great potential for its natural and cultural wealth. But it is essential to clearly articulate the different services to create an experience that impacts tourists and makes the territory a truly competitive space.

PurposeThe purpose is to open the possibility for a research institute, perhaps in partnership with a local council and a major developer, to bring together skills necessary to prototype the CEV development model.Design/methodology/approachThis paper advances the development of a hypothetical, systems-based approach to the design and development of smart rural villages – a network of circular economy villages (CEVs). The method is to assimilate visionary ideas from 20th century town planning literature related to decentralisation and the development of new towns in rural areas, identifying key design principles. The present trajectory of infrastructure design and emerging development models are then analysed to modernise the design principles for implementation in the 21st century.FindingsThe availability of localised, renewable energy micro-grids potentially makes CEVs feasible and affordable. The shift to remote work and movement of people to regional areas suggests that this may be a desirable development form. This can only be confirmed through the development of a pilot project as proof of concept.Originality/valueThe proposed CEV development model applies circular economy strategies to every aspect of the smart rural village development including financing, ownership, spatial planning, design and material selection.
