This paper lays emphasis on a proposal of a tailor-made roadmap that manages the knowledge related to automation skills to be applied during the concurrent engineering phase. The approach of this Research and Development (R&D) roadmap is a particular guideline in a structured form that uses the concepts of Plan-Do–Check–Act (PDCA) method integrated to other quality tools and know-how in robotization, for management of this specific knowledge. This research work aims to guide the staff (project managers, engineers and technicians) who work multidisciplinary in concurrent engineering environment about the robot’s implementation steps and significant tips related to the deployment phases that can be beneficial when this proposed roadmap is applied. Also, it was developed to assist the robot’s installation and their validation on shop floor, aiming the best class of industrial processes regarding the automation. The main contribution and novelty of this paper is to propose a R&D roadmap that drives and assists the multidisciplinary work teams since the identification of robotization opportunities till the assurance of quality requirements established for the concerned process, in addition to a continuous improvement program to carry it on. Besides that, this work provides a high relevance in terms of knowledge management related to robotization expertise, spread of practical skills in concurrent engineering context and an unprecedented innovative contribution at science frontier.

One of the factors that positively affect the objectives of a project is the performance level of the human talent that executes it. From the human point of view, a project can be defined as the action of a group of people focused towards achieving an outcome. This research work seeks to establish the general skills that a person who is part of a work high-performance team must have, that allow him or her to positively influence collective performance. A general skill describes the behavior and abilities of an individual, regardless of the degree of complexity that frames a job. This study was carried out with the support of 149 project managers from the Colombian software industry.

The advent of the environmental SEM (ESEM) has made possible the examination of uncoated and untreated specimen surfaces in the presence of a gaseous or liquid environment. However, the question arises as to what degree the examined surface remains unaffected by the action of the electron beam. It is reasonable to assume that the beam invariably affects all specimens but the type and degree of effect may be totally unimportant for one class of applications and totally unacceptable for another; yet, for a third class, it is imperative to know how our observations are modified by the presence of the beam. The aim of this report is to create an awareness of the need to initiate research work in various fields in order to determine the guiding rules of the limitations (or even advantages) due to irradiation.

Currently, higher education institutions need to produce skills with new skills that will enable young graduates to enter an increasingly complex world. Globalization, the objective of massification and diversification can be incubators towards lowering the quality of training. In a process of continuous improvement, science and technology education will have to conquer these different contextual variables. However, the traditional pedagogical model separating the functions of the two main actors of the class, teacher, information transmitter and passive receiver student, no longer satisfies the requirements of the development path. This inevitably leads to a rethinking of the school in depth and the implementation of other pedagogical approaches oriented towards know-how rather than towards the accumulation of knowledge. Given the complexity of analyzing and standardizing teaching practices as well as the teacher's strategic role in steering the learning process, we have adopted a normative methodology based on the concept of the process approach, the application of which will serve the orientation of science and technical training towards the acquisition of transversal skills which will allow the learner to better adapt to the needs of the job market. However, we will adopt a technical approach based on the use of quality tools to design, with the objective mentioned above, an innovative, efficient and effective model. We propose in our study to identify to what extent the quality principles of continuous improvement constitute mobilizing elements of the process of training in science and techniques.

This chapter describes experiences acquired during the research work conducted as part of the European Project Tell Me (www.tellmeproject.eu). The project envisaged to support the pan-European creation of Living Labs as new forms of cooperation between government, enterprises, citizens and academia for a successful transfer of e-Government, e-Democracy, and e-Services state-of-the art applications, solutions, know-how, and best practices. In this chapter, authors explore the potential of providing an existing system (DEMOS) allowing moderated and goal-oriented discourses between the citizens and the policy makers to become parts of open-ended ventures to allow the creation of collaborative networks for Electronic Democracy. This work also recommends that this form of support network elevates e-Democracy of a country and thus improves e-governance systems at the grass roots.

Purpose: To developed and introduced a measurement scale that may be useful to assess the competitive priorities practices in the manufacturing industries. The objective is to investigate the competitive priorities domains’ implementation and its defining measurement items emphasizing manufacturing industries in the Union Territory of Puducherry.Design/methodology/approach: The essential information has been gathered from 350 manufacturing firms by utilizing very much stretchered polls; most part of the data was gathered from best dimension working people like Operations Managers, General Managers and Directors. For analyzing the data the researchers used SPSS and LISREL 8.72 software packages. To find out the result the researchers applied Confirmatory Factor Analysis in this research work.Findings: From the six domains analyzed the result shows that Delivery plays an important role as it occupies the first rank among the domains in competitive priority. Next to Delivery, the majority of the firms fasten more importance to Quality as it ranks second. Cost is ranked as third, while Know-how is ranked as fourth, Flexibility is ranked as fifth and Customer Focus is ranked as sixth.Practical implications: Based on the existing recommendations on scale development literature, authors developed the measurement scale. This measurement scale is helpful for both academicians and practitioners. In this research work authors used the measurement scale to measure the competitive priorities domains.Originality/value: The research paper explains about the manufacturing industries situated in Union Territory of Puducherry.  The researchers developed the measurement instrument of competitive priorities practices based on six domains namely quality, cost, delivery, flexibility, customer focus, and know-how. This research work gives innovative literature by recommendations and validating a measurement scale for the competitive priorities. The result reveals that the manufacturing enterprises in the Union Territory of Puducherry.
