Abstract: Modern design of dental equipment does not totally prevent the profession from experiencing low back pain (LBP). This study was aimed to determine the prevalence of LBP, to analyze risk factors associated with LBP, and to analyze risk factor for LBP among dentists in North Sulawesi. This was a quantitative and analytical study with a cross sectional design. Samples were determined by using the purposive sampling method, namely 148 dentists who met the inclusion criteria. Data were collected by using the Ovako Working Posture Analysis System (OWAS) questionnaire to assess the posture of the dentists during treatment by adding individual and occupational characteristics. Further data were analyzed univariately, bivariately, and multivariately by using the SPSS program. The results showed that the prevalence of dentists who experienced LBP was 41,2%. In addition, work position (p=0.043, correlation coefficient Ф=0.166), and the number of patients in a day (p=0.025, r=0.190) had a significant correlation with NPB. In conclusion, work position is the most influential factor of LBP among dentists in North Sulawesi (OR=2.085, CI=95%). It is expected that all dentists should avoid working positions that could harm their musculoskeletal systems. Keywords: low back pain, dentist  Abstrak: Perubahan desain peralatan kedokteran gigi yang semakin mutakhir tidak menjadikan profesi dokter gigi terbebas dari keluhan nyeri punggung bawah (NPB).

This study aimed to investigate the bowling techniques of female fast bowlers and identify any association between a history of low back pain (LBP) and the movement patterns of the thorax relative to the pelvis during the delivery stride of the bowling action. Three-dimensional kinematic data were collected from 26 elite Australian female fast bowlers using an eight-camera Vicon motion analysis system. Nineteen bowlers used a mixed action, 6 bowlers used a semiopen action, and 1 bowler used a side-on action. Fourteen bowlers had a history of LBP. Eight of these 14 bowlers used a mixed action, and bowlers with more shoulder counterrotation were no more likely to have a history of LBP. Bowlers with a history of LBP positioned the thorax in more left lateral flexion relative to the pelvis between 73–79% of the delivery stride, and moved the thorax through a significantly greater range of lateral flexion relative to the pelvis during the delivery stride compared with bowlers with no history of LBP. This information will give coaches and support staff a better understanding of female bowling technique and may facilitate better screening practices for elite female cricketers.

AbstractThe purpose of this study was to compare the inter-joint coordination during sit-to-stand (STD) and stand-to-sit (SIT) execution between healthy people and people with low back pain.Fifteen healthy adults (age = 45.14 ± 5.18 years) and fifteen age-matched (age = 46.17 ± 8.26 years) people with chronic low back pain were selected voluntarily. They performed three repetitions of STD and SIT movement patterns in their preferred pace. Motion analysis system was used for measuring 3-dimensional (3D) angular displacement of hip, knee and ankle joints during execution of movement patterns. Decomposition indices were analysed and were compared between two groups through Hotelling TThe results showed that there is a significant difference (TPeople with low back pain have dis-coordination in the function of different body parts, and results in pausing of one segment while the other segment moves independently. This knowledge may help in the development of rehabilitation strategies for movement in this population.
