Only three months remain until the SEG International Exposition and 89th Annual Meeting, taking place 15–20 September in San Antonio, Texas. Annual Meeting Steering Committee Chair Glenn Winters and I are striving to make this meeting more participatory for all attendees and for all levels of experience and expertise. The committee has shortened the oral presentations by a half day. There will be no oral presentations Thursday morning, which will allow postconvention workshops to start earlier and make the schedule more efficient.

In keeping with the theme of the SEG International Exposition and 89th Annual Meeting coming up 15–20 September in San Antonio, Texas, we have assembled an exciting Technical Program of hot topics and hot technologies for hot plays. The hot technologies and topics range from machine learning and full-waveform inversion (FWI) to near surface and the environment, with a good representation of all areas of interest in between. The hot plays represented include tight rocks and unconventional plays, but deep water and conventionals are also well represented, creating a good balance between land and marine technical topics. There's something for everyone in this program, and there are a lot of new, up-and-coming technical areas for those wishing to expand their scope, both technically and geographically.

On Monday, October 24, 1994 at 2:00 PM, a definitive stamp will be dedicated to Dr Virginia Apgar at the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) annual meeting in Dallas. A definitive stamp lasts for years while the commemorative stamp is printed just one year. The United States Postal Service announced the 1994 stamp program on December 7, 1993 during a press conference at the National Postal Museum. Dr Apgar was nominated for a stamp in 1987 by the AAP. The initiative was spawned by the Perinatal Section at the 1985 annual meeting of the AAP in San Antonio.
