Power system includes many types of markets. Such markets are generally cleared at certain times, whereas market participators have to determine their operational plans before meeting the actual conditions. Therefore, forecasting methods can assist market players. Forecasting methods are applied to forecast electricity demand. The unknown conditions in the power system are increased by integration of renewable generation units. Forecasting methods, which are used for the load forecasting, are updated because the output power of renewable generation units such as wind farms and photovoltaic (PV) panels have more deviation than power demand. The pool market can be introduced as other parameter that is forecasted by market players. In this chapter, the authors investigate a mathematical model for forecasting of wind. Then, the forecasting model is proposed. Genetic algorithm is applied as an optimization method to handle delay associated with wind forecasting.

Short-term load forecasting is one of the most important routine works for power dispatch departments. The accuracy of load forecasting will exert direct effects on the safety, economy and stabilization of the power system running. Portrait and transverse comparability are employed to distinguish and correct bad load data, while wavelet analysis and multiple-time-period analysis used to eliminate long-term increasing weights, thus reducing the impact of the high-speed load increase on the accuracy of load forecasting.

Forecasting is the backbone of any planning process in all fields of interest. It has a great impact on future decisions. It is also of great importance to the operation and control of business, which is reflected as profits or losses to the entity. This paper aims to provide the planner with sufficient knowledge and background of the different scopes of forecasting methods, in general, and when applied to power system field, in particular. Various load and energy forecasting models, and theoretical techniques are discussed from different perspectives, time frames, and levels. The paper presents the attributes and importance of forecasting through several cases of research conducted by the author for the Jordanian power system. In all cases the methodologies selected cover short, medium and long term forecasting periods and the results are accurate.

Power load forecasting is one of the important parts in power system planning. This paper focused on the research of load forecasting and proposed an improved Rough set for mid-long term load forecasting. Based on the theory, the most sensitive factor can be found, which is applied to studying the uncertain problems of mid-long term load forecasting in this paper and one method fitting for mid-long term load forecasting are proposed. The validity and effectiveness of the method is tested in a real power system example.
