The paper analyses the publications of Russian authors in various fields of economics indexed in Web of Science and Russian Science Citation Index. The authors claim that the scientometric parameters are only in a limited way applicable in evaluating the performance of expert and thesis boards in economics in Russia. The authors also put forward the approaches in order to improve Russia’s positions in the international citations indexes in economics.

Introduction. The objective of the paper is to analyze scientific journals published in the post-Soviet states, as well as to identify the role of scientific journals in the information and analytical support for the adoption and implementation of decisions related to the management of scientific activities and socio- economic processes in countries and regions. Analysis of scientific journals based on a set of indicators will make it possible to identify the place of these publications in the national and international information space. Materials and Methods. The authors have analyzed available information about scientific journals published in the post-Soviet states and indexed by Scopus and Web of Science as well as information about such journals given on the website of the Higher Attestation Commission of Russia, data from the website of the Russian Science Citation Index and information from the official websites of the journals and from other sources. To obtain quantitative indicators related to the journals, standard means of search engines provided by the abovementioned resources were used. Data on the population of the countries and the number of researchers in them were taken from official statistics. Results. Data about the number of journals published in the post-Soviet states and indexed by Scopus, Web of Science and the Russian Science Citation Index, as well as those included in the list of the Higher Attestation Commission of Russia have been analyzed. Information on the publication activities of authors from the post-Soviet states has been evaluated as absolute and relative indicators. A number of common features of the editorial policies and practical activities of the considered journals have been identified as well as their approaches to the use of publication languages, to the issue of translated editions, to the formation of editorial boards and to the involvement of national and foreign authors. Discussion and Conclusion. Electronic repositories of scientific information play a crucial role in the formation of international and national scientific spaces. The materials presented in this article may be useful for coping with research tasks related to scientific periodicals as well as to support decision-making by heads of scientific units, editorial and publishing complexes.

The article analyzes the pool of Russian scientific journals in physics presented in the Russian Science Citation Index. The stages of this study are described and presented in detail. A preliminary general list of journals (173) has been formed and a list of journals (113) has been prepared according to the main selection parameters, which make it possible to identify the leading publications, both in their subject heading and in the section "Physics" in general. Based on the current version of the "State rubricator of scientific and technical information", the distribution of scientific journals by subject headings was carried out. Analysis of scientific journals in 12 thematic areas of physics made it possible to draw the main conclusions: on the presence in the VAK List (42 journals); on indexing in scientific citation databases – Web of Science (29 journals), Scopus (34 journals), RSCI (95 journals); for inclusion in the Russian Science Citation Index (54 journals); on the availability of free publication of manuscripts (40 journals); on the availability of royalties for the publication of manuscripts (4 journals). The article is prepared within the framework of the State Order “Development and improvement of the system of Open Archive of integrated information and library resources of Russian National Public Library for Science and Technology as modern knowledge management system in digital environment: on the way to Open Science” № 075-01300-20-00 for 2020–2022.

Objective: To observe changes in the number, form (print and online), and distribution (by academic disciplines) of Russian journals indexed in the first three years of the Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI). Background: The globalization of science and the need to involve Russia in the international process of knowledge exchange have influenced the main directions of publication activity and interaction with the world scientific community.  Methods: Statistical information freely available through the databases of the Scientific Electronic Library of Russia for January 2019 were compared with data from January 2016.  Results: In 2016, the number of Russian journals included in the RSCI was 650; by 2019, the number had increased to 771, an increase of 18.6%. The number of journals with printed and online versions increased by 13.3% to reach 266 units. The number of Russian journals indexed in Scopus and the Web of Science databases increased during the period, as did the number of journals with both print and online versions. Conclusions: Journals from the RSCI database tend also to be added to Scopus or WoS databases and do not remain exclusively as part of the local database. Implementing the RSCI project had a positive impact on the full spectrum of Russian academic journals, which are increasingly committed to improving their work to continue to be part of RSCI or Scopus or WoS databases.
