During an inventory fieldwork carried out at Usina Salgado property in the county of Ipojuca, Pernambuco, Brazil, we captured a Lionycteris spurrelli specimen in a forest fragment known as Mata do Mingú (8° 31' 29" S and 35° 03' 26" W). This marks the first occurrence for the northeast region and therefore, the first record for the state of Pernambuco, widening its distribution area within Atlantic Forest. The extension of the occurrence area points out this record as being the oriental limit for the species.

ABSTRACT: This note is the first report on the infection of adult stage of Melanagromyza sojae Zehntner, 1900 (Diptera: Agromyzidae) by the entomopathogenic fungus Ophiocordyceps dipterigena (Hypocreales: Ophiocordycipitaceae) (Berk. & Broome) G. H. Sung, J.M. Sung, Hywel-Jones & Spatafora, in subtropical Brazil. Entomopathogenic fungi, which attack dipteran insects, are of great scientific and economic importance mainly due to their potential as biological control agents of insect pests. Our findings bring new perspectives on the geographical distribution and host range of Ophiocordyceps dipterigena. We emphasize the need of further studies and research on new biological control agents of agricultural pests such as the soybean stem miner fly.

ABSTRACT Ahasverus advena (Coleoptera: Silvanidae) is a secondary pest of stored grains. It is a polyphagic and cosmopolitan species, with little information about its occurrence in the northern region of Brazil. This study was conducted to report the first occurrence of A. advena in corn grains in the city of Plácido de Castro, in the state of Acre, Brazil. In June 2019, the presence of A. advena under development was observed in a mass of corn grains. The identification was made at the species level using the available dichotomous keys. Since this is the first record of A. advena in corn grains in the city of Plácido de Castro, monitoring insects in the mass of corn grains is necessary to prevent the economic damages caused by A. advena to grains.

The species Cotesia alius (Muesebeck, 1958) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Microgastrinae) is a larvae parasitoid of Opsiphanes invirae amplificatus Stichel (1904) (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae). Hymenopteran parasitoids larvae and pupae are recorded acting as defoliators of palm. Concerning the scientific and economic importance of these interespecific relationship, and aiming to increase the knowledge to natural and conservative biological control, the present study records in the State of Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil, some data on the biology of this C. alius as larval parasitoid of O. invirae amplificatus Stichel (1904). Based on 35 postures were recorded 4581 cocoons. On 16 postures (48%) observed all cocoons were open and empty, indicating that all parasitoids emerged (Normal). In the 19 remaining postures (52%) (Altered), 134 cocoons (6%) were closed with C. alius intacts in six postures (40%) (Intacts) or remains (fragments) (44%), and in Eulophidae intact within three postures (16%). These data can be used in mass rearing of parasitoids, and biological control of defoliator’s palm.
