The digitalization of the construction industry has immense potential for dramatically improving the industry’s practices. Concerning current measures in construction project management, the industry is still dependent on traditional construction methods. However, the application of fully automated techniques within the construction industry has not yet been a widespread practice. Thus, this may explain why there is a slow adaption of digital growth within the construction industry and specifically in developing countries. This study is aiming to investigate the acceptance of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Augmented Reality (AR) integration in the construction industry. To achieve this aim, Technology Acceptance Model 3 (TAM3) was utilized. The scope was narrowed down to four developing counties (Malaysia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey) and a questionnaire survey was developed and distributed between construction professionals in those countries for data collection purposes. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was used to develop the TAM, and a regression analysis is used to validate it. The developed TAM3 showed that users control over BIM-AR and perception of easiness of use has the highest influence on their perception of the system usefulness, which would positively affect their intention to use the system. Additionally, unlike the findings of the original TAM3, three variables of Image, Perception of External Control, and Voluntariness illustrate new relations which can be considered as a novel outcome. The outcomes of this study can be used to evaluate the acceptance of BIM-AR Integration in the construction industry context, and the developed TAM3 can be used for the development of new BIM-AR applications in developing countries as it can predict the BIM and AR users’ acceptance.

Purpose Although the notable and significant role of building information modeling (BIM) technologies in construction industries has gained user attention, only few studies have been examined on the user adoption of the technologies. The purpose of this paper is to introduce an acceptance model for BIM technologies and investigate how external factors which were extracted by in-depth interviews promote the adoption of such technologies. Design/methodology/approach An on-line survey was conducted by two South Korean survey agencies to test the acceptance model for BIM technologies. Then, the structural equation modeling (SEM) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) methods were used. Findings The results of the SEM and CFA methods from on-site construction employees (n=818) in Korea collected by the online survey indicate that compatibility and organizational support play a core role in positively and significantly affecting both perceived ease of use and usefulness, and that the connections introduced by the origin technology acceptance model are mainly confirmed. Originality/value Using the findings of the results, both implications and notable limitations are presented. Moreover, practical developers, as well as academic researchers can employ the results when they attempt to conduct future research.

The purpose of this paper is to empirically study factors that facilitate the adoption of building information modelling (BIM) among practitioners using the unified theory of technology acceptance model (TAM). The factors identified in the TAM were examined using a quantitative approach. The empirical investigation has been conducted using a survey questionnaire. The data set has been obtained from 73 architects and engineers in Peru. Results show that Perceived Usefulness (PU) is the most important determinant of Behavioural Intention (BI), while Perceived Ease of Use (PEOU) is found to have no significant effect on BI. The findings provide an excellent backdrop in the development of policy and a roadmap for BIM implementation in Peru. The original contribution and value of the paper is the use of TAM to provide empirical evidence on factors that facilitate BIM adoption in Peru.

Mobile Building Information Modeling (BIM) is noted for tools that enable the systematic interchange of information and contribute to enhancing collaborative performance through BIM. BIM programs, which are continuously available in the mobile environment, have been developed. Moreover, in some sites, mobile BIM is applied to generate benefits in projects. Various efforts are being made to use mobile BIM; however, its utilization is low. Also, mobile BIM has lacked an analysis of the factors that affect actual users’ acceptance of mobile BIM. Therefore, this study analyzes the factors that affect the acceptance of mobile BIM by construction practitioners and presents the association of factors as a model to activate mobile BIM use. To this end, this study analyzed a literature review for suggesting the factors that were expected to affect mobile BIM acceptance. The assessment items were decided based on the analysis result. Second, 111 copies were received by surveying the construction practitioners. Third, it identified factors that significantly affected the acceptance of mobile BIM and proposed models through factor analysis and structural equation models. Finally, based on the analysis, it presented the findings. This study expects to contribute to enhanced acceptance of mobile BIM technology by managing the significant factors properly. Also, it is expected that the result can be used to develop a variety of mobile BIM that is more easily acceptable to them. This study presented a model for accepting mobile BIM based on the survey results of Korean practitioners; therefore, it is necessary to explore ways to generalize the model in the future.
