Yellowing of melon (Cucumis melo L.) incited by lettuce infectious yellows virus (LIYV) reduces yield and fruit quality of infected plants. LIYV is transmitted only by the sweetpotato whitefly (Bemisia tabaci Genn.). Two naturally infected field tests indicated several potential sources of resistance to LIYV. PI 124112 and `Snake Melon' had mild symptoms in both field tests whereas PI 313970 was asymptomatic in the test in which it was included. In greenhouse tests using controlled inoculation, PI 313970 was asymptomatic, had negative ELISA assays for LIYV, and was negative for LIYV in serial transfers to Chenopodium. `Top Mark' and `PMR 5' were symptomatic, had positive ELISA assays for LIYV, and were positive for LIYV in serial transfers to Chenopodium in these greenhouse tests. Limited data indicate that resistance in PI 313970 is conditioned by a single, dominant gene.

Background and Objectives: In this work, yellow and green varieties of Cucumis melo fruits belonging to different cultivars were studied. In detail, three Sicilian cultivars of winter melons tutelated by TAP (Traditional agro-alimentary products) labels were considered, whereas asun protected the Calabrian winter melon was studied too. With the aim to compare the selective uptakes of inorganic elements among winter and summer fruits, the “PGI Melone Mantovano” was investigated. The purpose of this work was to apply the obtained results i) to guarantee the quality and healthiness of fruits, ii) to producers defend, iii) to help the customers in safe food purchase. Method: All samples were analyzed by ICP-MS and the obtained results, subsequently, were subjected to Cluster analysis (CA), Principal component analysis (PCA) and Canonical discriminant analysis (CDA). Results: CA results were generally in agreement with samples origin, whereas the PCA elaboration has confirmed the presence of a strong relation between fruit origins and trace element contents. In particular, two principal components justified the 57.32% of the total variance (PC1= 40.95%, PC2= 16.37%). Finally, the CDA approach has provided several functions with high discrimination power, confirmed by the correct classification of all samples (100%). Conclusions: CA, PCA and CDA could represent an integrated to label to discriminate the origin of agri-food products and, thus, protect and guarantee their healthiness.

Dari hasil percobaan disimpulkan bahwa pemberian 200 gram inokulan <em>Trichoderma sp </em>dan 75 ml L-1 POC yang diberikan setiap 2 minggu mampu meningkatkan pertumbuhan dan hasil  tertinggi berat buah segar mencapai 1,33 kg/buah</p><p> </p><p>Experiment "The Effect of Liquid Organic Fertilizer (LOF) and <em>Trichoderma sp</em> Against Growth and Melon Yield (<em>Cucumis melo</em> L) has been conducted in Air Pacah  Koto Tangah Subdistrict in Padang City. The purpose of this research is to know the effect of liquid organic fertilizer and Trichoderma sp on growth and yield of Melon (<em>Cucumis melo</em> L). This study used a complete randomized design of 2 factors (<em>Trichoderma sp</em> and POC). <em>Trichoderma sp</em> consists of 2 levels of     0 g L-1 and 200 g L-1 per plant, whereas POC administration consists of 4 levels ie 0 ml L-1, 25 ml L-1, 50 ml L-1 and 75 ml L-1 with 3 replications and each unit of experiment 2 polybag so obtained 48 polybags.  The experimental resulted that giving 200 grams of <em>Trichoderma sp</em> inoculum and 75 ml L-1 POC was given every 2 weeks can increase the growth and yield of melon. The highest yield of fresh fruit 1.33 kg/fruit.</p>
