A review of the Afrotropical Plagiozopelma Enderlein, 1912 (Diptera: Dolichopodidae), with the description of a new species from Cameroon

A new species of Plagiozopelma from Cameroon is described and illustrated: Plagiozopelma mezamense sp. nov. Males of the new species differ reliably from other congeneric Afrotropical species by the simple antennal stylus, simple apical bristles on fore tibia and presence of one row of long posteroventral bristles on fore tarsomeres 1 and 2, two to three times longer than width of segments. Plagiozopelma piliseta (Parent, 1936) is illustrated and reported from Burundi for the first time. Plagiozopelma ramiseta (Parent, 1939) is recorded from Liberia for the first time. A new identification key for all the 17 Afrotropical species of genus is provided.

A new Neotropical species of Pirhosigma Giordani Soika, 1978 is described, Pirhosigma transfluvium Ferreira & Oliveira. The male of Pirhosigma limpidum Giordani Soika, 1978 is reported for the first time. An illustrated identification key is presented for all currently recognized species of Pirhosigma.

Dichotomius (Dichotomius) quadrilobatus new species (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Scarabaeinae: Dichotomiini), from western Amazonia (Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru) is described and its putative systematic position within the Dichotomius boreus species group is discussed. An updated identification key to the species of the Dichotomius boreus species group is provided. Additionally, Dichotomius (Selenocopris) fortepunctatus Luederwaldt, 1923 is recorded for the first time in Colombia.

The otocepheid oribatid mite genus Leptotocepheus Balogh, 1961 is recorded in the Australasian region for the first time. The taxonomic status of the genera Leptotocepheus Balogh, 1961 and Longocepheus Balogh & Mahunka,1966 is discussed, resulting in the recognition of Longocepheus as a subgenus (stat. nov.) of Leptotocepheus and the following recombinations: Leptotocepheus (Longocepheus) australis (Balogh & Mahunka, 1966) comb. nov., Leptotocepheus (Longocepheus) globosus (Grobler, 1995) comb. nov., Leptotocepheus (Longocepheus) longus (Balogh, 1961) comb. nov., Leptotocepheus (Longocepheus) youngai (Mahunka, 1984) comb. nov. A new species of Leptotocepheus (Longocepheus) is described from New Zealand, Leptotocepheus (Longocepheus) neozealandicus sp. nov., which differs from other species of the subgenus by the presence of short, slightly developed prodorsal costulae. Revised generic and subgeneric diagnoses, an identification key and distributions for the known taxa of Leptotocepheus are presented.

A new species of water scavenger beetle, Laccobius (Glyptolaccobius) yinziweii sp. nov. is described from Yunnan, China. Diagnostic characters are illustrated. Laccobius (Cyclolaccobius) nitidus Gentili, 1984 is reported from Guizhou, Laccobius (Microlaccobius) hammondi Gentili, 1984 from Hubei, and Laccobius (s. str.) inopinus Gentili, 1980 from Guizhou for the first time. Additionally, an identification key to Laccobius (Glyptolaccobius) of the world is updated.

The orchid genus Phloeophila is distributed from southern Mexico to Brazil and Bolivia, as well as Cuba. A taxonomic revision including the three Phloeophila species present in Ecuador is presented. Morphological characteristics, an identification key, maps of known localities and illustrations of the species are also included. In Ecuador, species of Phloeophila are only known from the Amazonian rainforests, growing from 890 to 1600 meters of altitude. Phloeophila condorana is described as a new species based on specimens collected in the Ecuadorian province of Zamora-Chinchipe and compared to Phloeophila nummularia. Phloeophila nummularia is reported for the first time in Peru. A lectotype for Pleurothallis echinantha is selected.

The genus Ludioctenus Fairmaire, 1893 hitherto included only L. cyprius (Baudi di Selve, 1871) from the eastern Mediterranean and L. pakistanicus Schimmel & Tarnawski, 2012 from Pakistan. Here, we describe L. afghanicus sp. nov. from the Nuristan Province in eastern Afghanistan. The distribution and morphological diversity of Ludioctenus is discussed, main diagnostic characters for all species are figured, and an identification key to the species of this genus is provided. Female pregenital segments and genitalia are figured for the first time for Ludioctenus, and the systematic position of this genus and its relatives is discussed.

A new species of Placospongia is described from Bahia State, Brazil. Placospongia giseleae sp. nov.. The specimen is found on the underside of rocks in shallow waters (0-20m), and is unique by having a spiculation consisting of two tylostyle categories, selenasters and acanthomicrorhabds. In addition, Placospongia ruetzleri, is recorded for the first time to Bahia state, 2.974 km southwards from its type locality, the Guyana shelf. The diversity of Placospongia species is raised from two to four taxa. An identification key for Western Atlantic Placospongia species is presented.

Within the genus Melanogaster Rondani, 1857, the group of species characterized by their yellow wing base was named as M. jaroslavensis group and revised for the first time. Redescriptions of M. jaroslavensis (Stackelberg, 1922), M. kirgisorum (Stackelberg, 1952), and M. tadzhikorum (Stackelberg, 1952) are provided. A new species of the M. jaroslavensis group, Melanogaster raccoon sp. nov., from Afghanistan, is described. The male of this new species differs from those of other known Melanogaster species by the following combination of characters: yellowish wing base, pale body pile, without dark pile, almost flat face, and surstyli short and emarginated apically in ventral view. Females of M. raccoon sp. nov. differ from those of any other Melanogaster species by a combination of yellowish wing base and frons without transverse furrows. An identification key to the species of the M. jaroslavensis group is presented.

Eriosema grearii, a new species for the genus (Leguminosae, Papilionoideae, Phaseoleae, Cajaninae), is described and illustrated. Similar to E. heterophyllum, it differs from it morphologically by the free (vs. joined) stipules, lax flowers distributed along the inflorescence axis (vs. congested and concentrated at its apex), inflorescences not opposite to the leaves (vs. opposite), and leaflets with secretory cells at the base of trichomes (vs. absence of secretory cells at the base of trichomes). A survey of the leaflet secretory structures revealed that E. grearii has distinct secretory structures, referred here as secretory-base trichomes, and reported for the first time for the Phaseoleae tribe. An identification key for the Eriosema species in Mato Grosso do Sul, where the new species occurs, is provided.

The present study is based on oribatid mite material (Acari, Oribatida) collected from six localities in Ethiopia during 2013. A list of identified taxa, including 60 species from 45 genera and 30 families, is provided; of these, eight species are recorded in the fauna of this country for the first time, and one species is recorded in the Ethiopian region for the first time. A new species of the genus Wallworkoppia (Oppiidae) is described from litter and fallen leaves in a Juniperus forest; W. tetraciliata Ermilov sp. nov. differs from W. secata (Mahunka, 1999), W. parasensilla (Mahunka, 1999), W. tuberosa (Mahunka, 1988) and W. vibrissa (Mahunka, 1983) by the rounded rostrum (versus tripartite rostrum). An identification key to known species of Wallworkoppia is updated.
