According to random field theory, combined with the construction of the characteristics of reinforced concrete structures, based on the geometric significance of the reliability index, the optimization algorithm of the reliability was established, and the reliability calculation algorithm of reinforced concrete structural during construction is proposed based on stochastic finite element method. Based on a stochastic analysis of the practical engineering, the time-varying laws of the reinforced concrete structural reliability index during construction are concluded.

Structural reliability analyses of fixed marine platforms subjected to storm wave loading are performed to assess deck elevations. Platforms are modeled as a series system consisting of the deck and jacket bays. The structural reliability analyses are carried out assuming dominant failure modes for the system components. Upper and lower bounds of the probability of failure are computed. The variation of the reliability index per bay component as a function of wave height, with a focus on those wave heights that generate forces on the deck, is analyzed. A comparison is given for the deck probability of failure and the lower bound probability of failure of the jacket in order to assess how the deck or the jacket controls the probability of failure of the system. Results are also given for reliability analyses considering different deck elevations. Finally, an analysis of the total probabilities of failure, unconditioned on wave heights, is given.

When insufficient data are available, probabilistic reliability method is invalid, but the non-probabilistic reliability method based on I-G (information-gap) model is a valid alternative. The most common I-G model, ellipsoidal-bound model, has been updated in this paper by acquiring information about span restrictions of uncertainty quantities and a corresponding non-probabilistic reliability index was proposed. The method for computing the reliability index was also given. The new model can reveal the influence of the span restriction of uncertainty quantities on structural reliability.

The work is focused on the reliability of corroded stiffened plates subjected to compressive uniaxial load based on the progressive collapse approach as stipulated by the Common Structural Rules for Bulk Carriers and Oil Tankers, employing the limit state design. Two different cases have been investigated. In the first model, the corrosion degradation led to uniform thickness loss, whereas the mechanical properties were unchanged, as given in the Rules. In the second model, the plate thickness degradation was followed by mechanical properties reduction. The uncertainties related to the mechanical properties, thicknesses, and initial imperfections of the corroded stiffened plate were taken into account. Several initial design solutions of stiffened plates, as well as different severity levels of corrosion degradation were investigated. The results show that structural reliability significantly decreases with corrosion development, especially when in addition to the initial imperfections and corrosion plate thickness reduction, corroded plate surface roughness and the changes in the mechanical properties were considered. The uncertainties, their origins and confidence levels are discussed. It was found that non-linear time-dependent corrosion degradation accounting not only for the thickness reduction due to corrosion wastage but also the subsequent decrease of mechanical properties lead to a significant reduction in the reliability index. Additionally, it was defined that the reliability estimate is very sensitive to the uncertainties related to the initial thickness and the spread of corrosion degradation as a function of the time. Incorporating the probability of corrosion detection into the original reliability model introduces additional information about the validity of structural degradation that may lead to a higher beta reliability index estimate compared to the original model.

Randomicity of basic variable results in the problem of structural reliability. A series of statistical parameters is applied in reliability calculation. Statistical parameters are attained by the statistics and analysis of source data of basic variable. However the basic variable source data is imperfect for a lot of structure. On the other hand, the relation of reliability index and basic variable is an important issue in reliability calculation. The two matters are solved in this paper by fuzzy mathematics. First, the matter of statistic data scarcity of load and resistibility and offered scientific evidence for estimation of distributing type of load and resistibility it solved by grey forecast; Second , the correlate degree of reliability index and load is calculated by correlate degree theory which can provide scientific evidence for security inspect of project.

The objective of this work is to determine the structural reliability of an existing jacket platform in Malaysia, by determining the system probability of failure and its corresponding reliability index. These two parameters are important indicators for assessing the integrity and reliability of the platform, and will point out whether the platform is suitable for continued operation. In this study, pushover analysis is used to determine possible failure paths of the structure, while First Order Reliability Method (FORM) and Simple Bound Formula are used to determine the failure probability and reliability index. Three failure paths of the platform are established. The reliability index of these paths is found with the highest Reliability Indexto be 18.82 from the 315-degree path, while the system reliability index is 9.23. This illustrates that the platform is robust and the chances of collapse is very small.

The new Ontario Highway Bridge Design Code (OHBDC) is based on limit states theory and therefore uses a load and resistance factor format. This paper deals with the development of the basis for the timber bridge design provisions (OHBDC). Three structural systems are considered: sawn timber stringers, laminated nailed decks, and prestressed laminated decks. The latter system has been successfully used in Ontario for the last 7 years.The acceptance criterion in calculation of load and resistance factors is structural reliability. It is required that bridges designed using the new code must have a reliability equal to or greater than a preselected target value. Reliability is measured in terms of the reliability index. The safety analysis is performed for a structural system rather than for individual members. The live load model was developed on the basis of available truck survey data. Material properties are based on extensive in-grade test results. Numerical examples are included to demonstrate the presented approach. Structural reliability methods are often used to evaluate the failure performance of geotechnical structures. A common approach is to use the first-order reliability method. Its popularity results from the mathematical simplicity of the method, since only second moment information (mean and coefficient of variation) on the random variables is required. The probability of failure is then assessed by an index known commonly as the reliability index. One critical aspect in determining the reliability index is the explicit definition of the limit state surface of the system. In a problem involving multi-dimensional random variables, the limit state surface is the boundary separating the safe domain from the "failure" (or lack of serviceability) domain. In many complicated and nonlinear problems where the analyses involve the use of numerical procedures such as the finite element method, this surface may be difficult to determine explicitly in terms of the random variables, and therefore the limit state can only be expressed implicitly rather than in a closed-form solution. It is proposed in this paper to use an artificial intelligence technique known as the back-propagation neural network algorithm to model the limit state surface. First, the failure domain is found through repeated point-by-point numerical analyses with different input values. The neural network is then trained on this set of data. Using the optimal weights of the neural network connections, it is possible to develop a mathematical expression relating the input and output variables that approximates the limit state surface. Some examples are given to illustrate the application and accuracy of the proposed approach.Key words: first-order reliability method, geotechnical structures, limit state surface, neural networks, reliability.
