Numerous programs addressing employee alcohol abuse and dependence have appeared in organizations in the U.S. since the 1940s. Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) have effectively used a dual strategy of constructive confrontation and counseling for dealing with problem drinkers at the work site. In many organizations, however, practitioners have begun to treat problem drinkers by altering this strategy and/or relying on health promotion programs (HPPs) and quality of work life (QWL) efforts. This article compares EAPs, HPPs, and QWL, discussing their theoretical underpinnings, methods, and demonstrated effectiveness in treating alcohol abuse and dependence. The author encourages cooperation among EAP, HPP, and QWL practitioners in addressing work place factors related to drinking problems, and makes several recommendations for future research.

This study aims to determine biographical influences on facets of employee assistance programmes (EAPs) and the quality of work life of employees in a public sector organization. Employee perceptions were conducted via questionnaire distribution and the data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. A sample 85 employees was drawn using the stratified random sampling. Significant differences surfaced with the length of service and with the three components of the study, that is, the programme on stress-related problems, the programme on personal issues and, mentoring programmes. Also, a significant difference emerged for the programme for substance abuse and the highest educational level. The literature review and the results highlight a compelling need for quality of work life and for spearheading EAPs programmes effectively in organizations

This paper is to discuss a basic model of work-life balance for married women working in public sector. The model is formulated based surveys received from seventy-six (76) respondents working in various public sectors in Komplek Tun Abdul Razak (KOMTAR) Penang. The study discovered that basically there are two main factors contribute to work-life balance, family related factors and job-related factors. In addition, to achieve work-life balance and to ensure productive and efficient working women, there should be incentives and services provided by the employers and government/non-government agencies to ease the burden of working women both in managing their families and their work. The incentives and services suggested by the respondents are suitable and flexible leave policies, dependent care centres, flexible working hours and work-family activities and support system and also counselling service or employee assistance programme. Since the model is formulated based on a study carried-out only on a small number of respondents, further studies should be carried-out to confirm the model or to up-grade the model. However, the model can be a basic model for more detail and comprehensive model of work-life balance for working women in Malaysia in future.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of work-life balance practices (e.g. flexible working options, employee assistance program, and leave programs) on employee’s job performance in banking sector. This research focusing on employees as respondents from banking sector in Klang Valley, Malaysia. Data were collected from 100 samples by which data were collected through online surveys from selected banks in Klang Valley and were analyzed through statistical software. The Pearson correlation analysis was conducted between independent variables and dependent variable. The result shows to accept the hypothesis that work-life balance practices has positive relationship with employees’ job performance in banking sector. This finding could help and promote the management of companies to practice and to provide the work-life balance policies for employees in banking sector.)
