Nowadays, wavelet has been widely applied in extracting features of the signal for automatic speech recognition system. Wavelets have many families that are determined by their mother function and order. The use of different wavelets to analyze the same signal would bring different results. In many cases, a trial and error procedure is used to select the optimal wavelet family. That is because there are no particular wavelet basis functions that can be applied to the entire speech signals. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the similarity between the speech signal and the wavelet base function. One of the methods that can be used is cross-correlation. In this study, the degree of correlation is determined between wavelet base function and Indonesian vowels. The influence of gender and consistencies of the results are also used in the analysis. The results show that db45 and db44 are most similar to male and female vowels utterance, respectively. For consistencies, only vowel e gives a consistent result. Overall, db44 is most similar to all Indonesian vowels utterance.

A method for the determination of crystal structures from powder diffraction data is presented that circumvents the difficulties associated with separate indexing. For the simultaneous optimization of the parameters that describe a crystal structure a genetic algorithm is used together with a pattern matching technique based on auto and cross correlation functions.<br>

In this paper, we propose a novel gesture recognition system based on a smartphone. Due to the limitation of Channel State Information (CSI) extraction equipment, existing WiFi-based gesture recognition is limited to the microcomputer terminal equipped with Intel 5300 or Atheros 9580 network cards. Therefore, accurate gesture recognition can only be performed in an area relatively fixed to the transceiver link. The new gesture recognition system proposed by us breaks this limitation. First, we use nexmon firmware to obtain 256 CSI subcarriers from the bottom layer of the smartphone in IEEE 802.11ac mode on 80 MHz bandwidth to realize the gesture recognition system’s mobility. Second, we adopt the cross-correlation method to integrate the extracted CSI features in the time and frequency domain to reduce the influence of changes in the smartphone location. Third, we use a new improved DTW algorithm to classify and recognize gestures. We implemented vast experiments to verify the system’s recognition accuracy at different distances in different directions and environments. The results show that the system can effectively improve the recognition accuracy.

The wavelet basis functions are introduced into the radiative transfer equation in the frequency domain. The intensity of radiation is expanded in terms of Daubechies’ wrapped-around wavelet functions. It is shown that the wavelet basis approach to modeling nongrayness can be incorporated into any solution method for the equation of transfer. In this paper the resulting system of equations is solved for the one-dimensional radiative equilibrium problem using the P-N approximation.

The determination of a pair of fundamental units in a totally real cubic field involves two operations—finding a pair of independent units (i.e. such that neither is a power of the other) and from these a pair of fundamental units (i.e. a pair ε1; ε2 such that every unit of the field is of the form with rational integral m, n). The first operation may be accomplished by exploring regions of the integral lattice in which two conjugates are small or else by factorizing small primes and comparing different factorizations—a trial-and-error method, but often a quick one. The second operation is accomplished by obtaining inequalities which must be satisfied by a fundamental unit and its conjugates and finding whether or not a unit exists satisfying these inequalities. Recently Billevitch ((1), (2)) has given a method, of the nature of an extension of the first method mentioned above, which involves less work on the second operation but no less on the first.

AbstractWe use the UKIDSS Ultra-Deep Survey, the deepest degree-scale near-infrared survey to date, to investigate the clustering of star-forming and passive galaxies to z ~ 3.5. Our new measurements include the first determination of the clustering for passive galaxies at z > 2, which we achieve using a cross-correlation technique. We find that passive galaxies are the most strongly clustered, typically hosted by massive dark matter halos with Mhalo > 1013 M⊙ irrespective of redshift or stellar mass. Our findings are consistent with models in which a critical halo mass determines the transition from star-forming to passive galaxies.
