In this paper, a proposed ANFIS-PID controller for the STATCOM to improve transient stability of the power system including DFIG based wind farm based on their nonlinear modeling is presented. The comparative simulation results in two cases of no controller and the ANFIS-PID controller for the STATCOM when occurs a three-phase short-circuit fault in the studied multi-machine power system are shown. It is shown the effectiveness of the proposed ANFIS-PID controller and applicability to a practical power system for enhancing power quality in transient time under large disturbance.

Large scale wind farm output variation always deteriorates the system stability. To study this problem, this paper builds the model of power system with the integration of large-scale wind farm based on BPA. The simulation results show that large oscillations of voltage and rotor angle of system will happen, when three-phase short circuit fault occurs on the main line for transmitting wind power. With wind farm output decreasing, the transient stability and small-signal stability of power system will be improved.

Abstract This paper presents stability enhancement of a test system that is connected with a Wind Farm (WF) by using Power System Stabilizer (PSS) for Synchronous Generator (SG) and Power Oscillation Damper (POD) for Static Var Compensator (SVC). This paper also proposes a coordination mechanism for the controller to effectively damp out the oscillations and make the power system more stable by considering the uncertainties. The uncertainty is considered as wind speed variation and wind power penetration and different locations. The Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is used to overcome the controller parameter tuning drawbacks and controller coordination. The SG rotor speed deviation is selected as an objective function with various constraints for PSO. The transient stability analysis is carried out by considering large disturbance that is a three-phase fault. The nonlinear dynamic simulation results are obtained by integrating WF and SG replacement with the same rating WF. Evaluation and analysis are performed for various cases and different combination of without and with controllers. From the simulation results, it is noticed that oscillations in the system are minimized, and stability is enhanced at the maximum level. It also observed that the capability of SG and DFIG under three-phase fault is intensified by using PSO for optimized coordinated controller parameters. The robustness and effectiveness of the proposed approaches are evaluated on the IEEE-11 bus test system.

This paper proposes a simple design procedure to solve the problem of controlling generator transient stability following large disturbances in power systems. A state-feedback excitation controller and power system stabilizer are designed to guarantee robustness against uncertainty in the system parameters. These controllers ensure satisfactory swing damping and quick decay of the voltage regulation error over a wide range of operating conditions. The controller performance is evaluated in a case study in which a three-phase short-circuit fault near the generator terminals in a four-bus power system is simulated.

The overrun of transient power quality index caused by the large-capacity electric arc furnace (EAF) has become a prominent problem affecting the safe and stable operation of the power system. (1) In this paper, the relationship between arc furnace volt-age and current is derived based on the different stages of arc combustion, and the random variation of chaotic phenomenon of the arc voltage are simulated. Established an EAF model suitable for the study of transient power quality problems. (2) Take 50t AC EAF as an example to analyze the reactive power impact and the influence on the point of common coupling (PCC) voltage caused by the three-phase short circuit of the electrode. The results show that the experimental results are consistent with the theoretical analysis, verifying the correctness and effectiveness of the model. (3) When the three-phase short-circuit occurs, the reactive power impact is nearly 6 times that of normal operation, the short-circuit current is 2.66 times that of normal operation, and the effective value of the PCC voltage has dropped by 40.37%, which provides a theoretical basis for real-time compensation of impulsive reactive power and improvement of the transient power quality of the EAF.
