Abstract The crosswise model is an increasingly popular survey technique to elicit candid answers from respondents on sensitive questions. Recent studies, however, point out that in the presence of inattentive respondents, the conventional estimator of the prevalence of a sensitive attribute is biased toward 0.5. To remedy this problem, we propose a simple design-based bias correction using an anchor question that has a sensitive item with known prevalence. We demonstrate that we can easily estimate and correct for the bias arising from inattentive respondents without measuring individual-level attentiveness. We also offer several useful extensions of our estimator, including a sensitivity analysis for the conventional estimator, a strategy for weighting, a framework for multivariate regressions in which a latent sensitive trait is used as an outcome or a predictor, and tools for power analysis and parameter selection. Our method can be easily implemented through our open-source software cWise.

Layout is the basic framework that must be built in a design work. In this Kurnia Advertising promotional website, the power of layout in displaying information is dominated by white which gives the impression of a clean and simple design. Other elements use dominant colors of yellow, black and orange which are intended to give a cheerful and elegant feel. Product photos and detailed product information are presented on the website to provide more complete information to users. The ease of accessing the website and complete information are the strengths of this website to attract consumers to be interested in buying services from Kurnia Advertising. Tests carried out by distributing google forms to measure the effectiveness of website design and content were carried out on 50 respondents. The test results show that the website is quite effective in providing information to users with a simple design. In addition, the development of a website that is used as a promotional medium aims to make it easier for users to get information through features and the addition of a complex but structured menu so that the information conveyed can be more optimal.   Keywords: website, layout, promotion media, user interface

Intelligent behavior and cognitive functions in mammals depend on cortical microcircuits made up of a variety of excitatory and inhibitory cells that form a forest-like complex across six layers. Mechanistic understanding of cortical microcircuits requires both manipulation and monitoring of multiple layers and interactions between them. However, existing techniques are limited as to simultaneous monitoring and stimulation at different depths without damaging a large volume of cortical tissue. Here, we present a relatively simple and versatile method for delivering light to any two cortical layers simultaneously. The method uses a tiny optical probe consisting of two microprisms mounted on a single shaft. We demonstrate the versatility of the probe in three sets of experiments: first, two distinct cortical layers were optogenetically and independently manipulated; second, one layer was stimulated while the activity of another layer was monitored; third, the activity of thalamic axons distributed in two distinct cortical layers was simultaneously monitored in awake mice. Its simple-design, versatility, small-size, and low-cost allow the probe to be applied widely to address important biological questions.

Abstract Color blindness, or color vision deficiency (CVD), is an ocular disease that suppresses the recognition of different colors. Recently, tinted glasses and lenses have been studied as hopeful devices for color blindness correction. In this study, 2D biocompatible and flexible plasmonic lenses were fabricated using polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and an innovative, low-cost, and simple design based on the soft nano-lithography method. These lenses were investigated for correction of red-green (deuteranomaly) color blindness. The plasmonic lens proposed herein is based on the plasmonic surface lattice resonance (SLR) phenomenon and offers a good color filter for color blindness correction. The biocompatibility, low cost, and simple fabrication of these contact lenses can offer new insights for applications of color blindness correction.

Abstract The experience of using reactive inductor machines (RIM) on vehicles is described. Over the past decade, the interest in RIM for the transport industry has significantly increased. One of the promising areas of RIM use is hybrid vehicles. A RIM has a simple design, high reliability and performance. It is capable of operating in motor and generator modes. The world experience in the development of vehicles with RIM has been promising in using this type of electric machines in electric power transmissions of locomotives.

The abundantly harvested dragon fruit has encouraged the people at Batuah Village to make secondary product, in order to avoiding loss because the fruit is rotten, such as the dragon fruit crackers. Nowdays, the product has already marketed in the Mercure-Ibis Samarinda hotel chain. For the purpose it is considered important for the products to have good packaging. Therefore, the community service team do the coaching on how to make basic packaging design. The coaching trainee is taught on how to make packaging design from existed packaging pattern and then adjust it to the size of their products. The trainee was also taught on how to make simple design with design software. The results are that the trainee can make packaging design which the design and size are already adjusted with their product’s needs.

The article deals with the traditional dwellings in the UNESCO World Heritage ancient settlements (ksour) of M’zab Valley in Algerian desert. The Mozabite habitats are reflection of cultural and social values embodied in the architecture, with simple design in their forms deep in their indications, they are organized with a set of principles and rules known as customs that were inspired by religion and adapted to the environment. This latter helped to preserve Mozabite dwellings for more than a millennium. In this article the attention has been drawn to the dwelling’s design and distribution of its spaces according the activities and lifestyle of Mozabite community considering the arid environment needs. Sustainability strategies have significant presence in different levels of the dwelling appearing from the usage of passive techniques which depend on the principles of conservation energy and water, exploiting renewable resources and usage of local materials. These techniques are what make dwellings integrate completely within arid climate.
