AbstractWe establish the existence of loop type subcontinua of nonnegative solutions for a class of concave-convex type elliptic equations with indefinite weights, under Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions. Our approach depends on local and global bifurcation analysis from the zero solution in a nonregular setting, since the nonlinearities considered are not differentiable at zero, so that the standard bifurcation theory does not apply. To overcome this difficulty, we combine a regularization scheme with a priori bounds, and Whyburn’s topological method. Furthermore, via a continuity argument we prove a positivity property for subcontinua of nonnegative solutions. These results are based on a positivity theorem for the associated concave problem proved by us, and extend previous results established in the powerlike case.

In this paper, we show how the global bifurcation theory for nonlinear Fredholm operators (Theorem 4.3 of [Shi & Wang, 2009]) and for compact operators (Theorem 1.3 of [Rabinowitz, 1971]) can be used in the study of the nonconstant stationary solutions for a volume-filling chemotaxis model with logistic growth under Neumann boundary conditions. Our results show that infinitely many local branches of nonconstant solutions bifurcate from the positive constant solution [Formula: see text] at [Formula: see text]. Moreover, for each [Formula: see text], we prove that each [Formula: see text] can be extended into a global curve, and the projection of the bifurcation curve [Formula: see text] onto the [Formula: see text]-axis contains [Formula: see text].

AbstractWe investigate weighted elliptic equations containing a convection term with variable exponents that are subject to Dirichlet or Neumann boundary condition. By employing the De Giorgi iteration and a localization method, we give a-priori bounds for solutions to these problems. The existence of solutions is also established using Brezis’ theorem for pseudomonotone operators.

SynopsisWe consider linear and nonlinear elliptic equations in divergence form on Riemannian manifolds with or without boundary. In the former case we impose a homogeneous Neumann boundary condition. By making use of isoperimetric inequalities for manifolds, we obtain a priori sharp estimates for the decreasing rearrangement of the solutions to such equations. These estimates enable us to derive bounds for suitable norms of the solutions and of their gradients.

Abstract In this paper, we obtain generalized weighted Sobolev-Morrey estimates with weights from the Muckenhoupt class Ap by establishing boundedness of several important operators in harmonic analysis such as Hardy-Littlewood operators and Calderon-Zygmund singular integral operators in generalized weighted Morrey spaces. As a consequence, a priori estimates for the weak solutions Dirichlet boundary problem uniformly elliptic equations of higher order in generalized weighted Sobolev-Morrey spaces in a smooth bounded domain Ω ⊂ ℝn are obtained.

Abstract In the present paper, we study the existence of nonnegative solutions to the Dirichlet problem ℒ p , q M ⁢ u := - Δ ⁢ u + u p - M ⁢ | ∇ ⁡ u | q = μ {{\mathcal{L}}^{{M}}_{p,q}u:=-\Delta u+u^{p}-M|\nabla u|^{q}=\mu} in a domain Ω ⊂ ℝ N {\Omega\subset\mathbb{R}^{N}} where μ is a nonnegative Radon measure, when p > 1 {p>1} , q > 1 {q>1} and M ≥ 0 {M\geq 0} . We also give conditions under which nonnegative solutions of ℒ p , q M ⁢ u = 0 {{\mathcal{L}}^{{M}}_{p,q}u=0} in Ω ∖ K {\Omega\setminus K} , where K is a compact subset of Ω, can be extended as a solution of the same equation in Ω.

Abstract In this paper we discuss the existence of a solution between wellordered subsolution and supersolution of the Kirchhoff equation. Using the sub-supersolution method together with a Rabinowitz-type global bifurcation theory, we establish the existence of positive solutions for Kirchhoff-type problems when the nonlinearity is singular or sign-changing. Moreover, we obtain some necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of positive solutions for the problem when N = 1.

In this paper, we establish global Sobolev a priori estimates for [Formula: see text]-viscosity solutions of fully nonlinear elliptic equations as follows: [Formula: see text] by considering minimal integrability condition on the data, i.e. [Formula: see text] for [Formula: see text] and a regular domain [Formula: see text], and relaxed structural assumptions (weaker than convexity) on the governing operator. Our approach makes use of techniques from geometric tangential analysis, which consists in transporting “fine” regularity estimates from a limiting operator, the Recession profile, associated to [Formula: see text] to the original operator via compactness methods. We devote special attention to the borderline case, i.e. when [Formula: see text]. In such a scenery, we show that solutions admit [Formula: see text] type estimates for their second derivatives.

We consider the problem Δu = λf(u) in Ω, u(x) tends to +∞ as x approaches ∂Ω. Here, Ω is a bounded smooth domain in RN, N ≥ 1 and λ is a positive parameter. In this paper, we are interested in analysing the role of the sign changes of the function f in the number of solutions of this problem. As a consequence of our main result, we find that if Ω is star-shaped and f behaves like f(u) = u(u−a)(u−1) with ½ < a < 1, then there is a solution bigger than 1 for all λ and there exists λ0 > 0 such that, for λ < λ0, there is no positive solution that crosses 1 and, for λ > λ0, at least two solutions that cross 1. The proof is based on a priori estimates, the construction of barriers and topological-degree arguments.

AbstractIn this paper minimax methods are employed to establish the existence of a bounded positive solution for semilinear elliptic equation of the form−∆u + V (x)u = P(x)|u|where the nonlinearity has supercritical growth and the potential can change sign. The solutions of the problem above are obtained by proving a priori estimates for solutions of a suitable auxiliary problem.
