The effects of polarization function on the spin contamination and distribution in β'-Me4P[Pd(dmit)2]2 were studied using the DFT cluster method. Two basis sets, SV and SVP were considered in the calculations, where B3LYP functional was employed in the doublet state of the one-fragment and dimer clusters. The values of <S2> before annihilation for both SV and SVP basis sets are excellent and very close to the perfect theoretical eigenvalue of 0.75. The values of the spin densities at thiolate and thione calculated using SVP were found to be smaller than the ones using SV. The difference, however, is less than eight percent. In contrast, the difference in the spin density at Pd atoms in both monomers is significantly larger for the SVP, being about 21%. The inclusion of polarization function resulted in the shifting of electron density from the sulfur atoms to the central Pd atoms. The calculated spin densities revealed the inhomogeneous distribution of the electron spin in the dimer that leads to the existence of electron-rich and electron-poor regions.

Two new band systems have been observed in absorption following flash photolysis of AsH 3 and AsD 3 , and are assigned to 2 A 1 - 2 B 1 electronic transitions of AsH 2 and AsD 2 . The origins of both systems are at 19905 cm -1 . The bands have the complex rotational structure associated with an asymmetric rotor. Rotational analyses have been carried out for three bands of the AsH 2 spectrum, leading to the following molecular parameters: ground state, r" 0 = 1.518 Å valence angle = 90° 44'; excited state, r' 0 = 1.48 Å, valence angle = 123° 0'. The parameters associated with rotation about the a inertial axis increase rapidly with increase in v' 2 . The spectrum shows doublet splittings of up to 41 cm -1 , and the excited state furnishes the first example of a doublet state of an asymmetric top molecule which shows substantial departures from Hund’s case ( b ).

AbstractFor [Cr(NCS)6]-3 in normal alcohols at 77 K the lifetimes of phosphorescence from the excited doublet state are reported. The lifetimes decrease in the order ethanol > methanol > n-propanol > n-butanol > n-pentanol > n-hexanol > n-heptanol, and the rate constant increases exponentially when the 0'-0 band energy of the 2Eg → 4A2g transition decreases.
