Fatigue test was carried out on E36 steel no reinforcement welding joint under the same constant amplitude load with ultrasound fatigue tester independent designed by Tianjin University. Test results showed that the specimen would enter infinite life area after 1 x 109 cycle times; All broken specimens fractured in the welding seam. We observed fracture surface using SEM and found all the crack initiation from defects. This paper further analysed the influence of nature, size, position, and distribution of defects on fatigue life.

Abstract The bonding state of the asphalt layers in a road pavement structure significantly affects its fatigue life. These bondings, therefore, require detailed tests and optimization. In this paper, the analyses of the correlation between the results of laboratory static tests and the results of fatigue tests of asphalt mixture interlayer bondings were performed. The existence of the relationships between selected parameters was confirmed. In the future, the results of these analyses may allow for assessment of interlayer bondings’ fatigue life based on the results of quick and relatively easy static tests.

The resistance during the frictional interaction of polymeric materials with metallic materials is characterized by a significant dependence on the dynamics of the motion inputs. In a metal-polymer friction pair, the static friction resistance during standstill under load depends on the rate of growth of the force causing the relative motion. Tribological tests of selected (polymer-metal) sliding pairs were carried out. The selected polymers were polyurethane (TPU), polysulfone (PSU), and silicone rubber (SI). They interacted with a pin made of normalized C45 steel under unitary pressure p = 0.5 MPa in dry friction conditions at different gradients of the force driving the relative motion (dF/dt = 0.1-20 [N/s]). The static friction coefficient of the selected sliding pairs was determined on the basis of the recorded static friction force values. The test results show a significant influence of the rate of increase in the motion driving force on the values of static friction resistance. This is mainly due to the viscoelastic properties of polymers.

Strain controlled constant and variable amplitude fatigue tests for 316NG and Titanium stabilized stainless steels in low oxygen PWR waters were performed. The stabilized steel has been plant aged for 100 000 hours. Constant amplitude test results at 0,01 Hz sinusoidal straining comply with predicted lives according to the Fen approach for both materials. Spectrum straining both in air and in environment caused predicted life reduction factors (about 3) for the stabilized steel, but for the 316NG steel spectrum straining in environment resulted to a larger reduction in life.
