A new species of Lepanthes from southwestern Colombia is presented here. Lepanthes farallonensis belongs to the informal group “manabina”, which comprises species with concave and commonly pubescent leaves, flowers resting at the adaxial side of the leaves, and the synsepal with short to long tails. Lepanthes farallonensis is similar to L. smaragdina in the broadly ovate dorsal sepal but differs in the conspicuously twisted upper lobes of the petals, outwardly bent and a depression at the center of the laminae of the lip.

Zamia paucifoliolata, a new cycad species from the Pacific lowlands of Valle del Cauca, Colombia, is described and illustrated. It is distinguished from other species of Zamia by having an underground stem typically bearing large solitary leaves with eighteen or fewer leaflets, villous strobilar axes, microsporangia borne on both the abaxial and adaxial side of microsporophylls, and seeds that are longer than 18 mm. It is compared to Z. pyrophylla, Z. cunaria, and Z. ipetiensis, species which it most closely resembles.

A new species, Stenomorpha roosevelti Smith, Miller, and Wheeler, n. sp., is described from the Cuatrociénegas Protected Area in Coahuila, Mexico. Three related species are transferred into Stenomorpha, producing the following new combi- nations: Stenomorpha furcata (Champion), Stenomorpha wickhami (Horn), and Stenomorpha granicollis (Blaisdell). A new informal group, the furcata species group, comprised of these four species is recognized within Stenomorpha. Diagnoses of the group and its species are provided, along with distribution data and a key to the species.

Chusquea gouveiensis is a new species of tropical woody bamboo from Brazil, herein described and illustrated. It is classified within C. subg. Chusquea, mainly based on its scandent habit, triangular central bud with vertical orientation, extra-or infravaginal branching, and lemma margins free at the apex. The new species is most similar to C. gracilis because they share culm leaves with undifferentiated sheaths and blades with a folded or twisted apex, and foliage leaves and spikelets of similar length. However, C. gouveiensis is distinguished from C. gracilis by having branch complements of 40‒90 usually ascending subsidiary branches (vs. 70‒195 mostly horizontally oriented subsidiary branches), synflorescences weakly paniculate to racemose (vs. paniculate), glumes I and II collectively 0.3‒0.7 mm long (vs. 0.1‒0.2 mm long), and glumes III and IV awned and abaxially pilose to pubescent at the apex (vs. mucronate and glabrous). The two species also differ in distribution: C. gouveiensis is only known from the region of Gouveia and Diamantina, in the southern portion of the Espinhaço Range in Minas Gerais state, Brazil, in forest fragments at 1,200‒1,300 m.a.s.l., whereas C. gracilis occurs in the southern Brazilian states of Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul, in mixed ombrophilous forests between 550 and 880 m.a.s.l. Based on nuclear internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and plastid DNA sequence data (ndhF and trnD-trnT), a sixth lineage within the Euchusquea clade was identified, herein named clade VI—Chusquea meyeriana clade, comprising a significant portion of the Brazilian species of Chusquea. The new species has phylogenetic affinities with the C. meyeriana informal group and is also distinct from C. gracilis in the phylogeny.

A new species of anatomically preserved Cupressaceae is described from the Upper Cretaceous Raritan Formation (New Jersey, USA). The fossils are charcolified isolated ovuliferous complexes that were studied by means of a combination of SEM images and micro-computed tomography (micro-CT), allowing the observation of morphological and anatomical characters. Each ovuliferous complex bears 3–4 anatropous winged seeds, disposed in one row on a thin medial part of the adaxial side of the ovuliferous complex. Based on the combination of characters such as ovuliferous complex morphology, arrangement of vascular tissues and resin canals, seed number and their morphology, orientation and disposition, these fossils are placed within a new species of the fossil genus Athrotaxites. The developmental stage of the specimens is analyzed base on comparisons with living representatives of the subfamily Athrotaxoideae (i.e., Athrotaxis spp.), which supports a post-pollination stage for these fossils. In addition, the new species is compared with other extant and extinct representatives of basal cupressaceous subfamilies. This new record from the Upper Cretaceous sediments of New Jersey further supports a wider distribution of the subfamily Athrotaxoideae during the middle part of the Mesozoic, as it has been also noted for other basal representatives of the family Cupressaceae.

A new species of Heteropterys belonging to the Parabanisteria informal group is described for the savannas grasslands of the Serra do Tombador Natural Reserve, municipality of Cavalcante, State of Goiás, Brazil. Heteropterys rosmarinifolia is easily distinguished from the remaining Brazilian species of the Parabanisteria informal group due to its stems unbranched, leaves associated with the inflorescence verticillate, blades linear to very narrowly oblong, strongly conduplicate, ascending to upright, and sparsely sericeous to glabrous at age. We present a complete morphological description for the new species, photographic plates, comments on its distribution, ecology, and taxonomy, besides an identification key to the species of Heteropterys from the Parabanisteria group from the State of Goiás, Brazil.

Leptalpheus lirai sp. nov., a new species of symbiotically living, infaunal alpheid shrimp, is described based on a single specimen from the Gulf of Santa Fe, Sucre, Venezuela. The new species belongs to an informal group of nine species within the genus Leptalpheus Williams, 1965, which is characterised by the presence of well-developed adhesive disks on the major chela. In addition, Leptalpheus axianassae Dworschak & Coelho, 1999 and Fenneralpheus chacei Felder & Manning, 1986 are recorded for the first time from Venezuela (Anzoátegui and Sucre, respectively), the latter also representing the first record of the genus Fenneralpheus Felder & Manning, 1986 for the country. These records bring to 11 the number of alpheid genera, and to four the number of species of Leptalpheus, known in Venezuelan marine waters.

Stachytarpheta tomentosa from the state of Espírito Santo, Brazil, is described and illustrated. Currently it is known only from a single inselberg in the Atlantic Forest, at approximately 900 m.a.s.l., and is considered Critically Endangered in accordance with the criteria of the IUCN Red List of endangered species. The new species is characterized by tomentose branches; lanceolate leaves with tomentose abaxial surface; tomentose bracts; calyx 4-toothed with 1 adaxial sinus, externally hirsute along the ribs, puberulent between the ribs; and blue corolla with white throat. It belongs to the informal group “Gesnerioides”. An identification key for the species of this group is provided, alongside description, map and illustrations.

The members of the Megarthrus hemipterus species complex occurring in China, i.e., M. dentipes Bernhauer, M. flavolimbatus Cameron and M. hemipterus (Illiger), are diagnosed, and a new species attributed to this informal group, M. pandasp. nov., is described from Yunnan Province. All species are diagnosed and illustrated, and their distribution in mainland China is mapped. The limit of the M. hemipterus species complex is refined morphologically.

Stachytarpheta kriegeriana, a new species of Verbenaceae exclusively known from the type specimens collected at the municipality of Monte Alto, São Paulo state, is here described and illustrated. The new species is similar to S. hirsutissima due to its densely hirsute indumentum, but can be differentiated by its leaves and bracts morphology, and by the bract/calyx ratio. Stachytarpheta kriegeriana belongs to the informal group “Cayennensis” due to its inflorescences up to 6 mm wide and its calyx embedded in the rachis excavations. An identification key for the species within the “Cayennensis” group is provided, together with a map highlighting the collection site, habitat information, illustration, and conservation assessment for the new species.

A new species of Maranta (Marantaceae) from the Brazilian Amazon is described and illustrated. This species belongs to Maranta subg. Maranta and has close affinities with M. linearis, from which it differs in its caulescent habit, absent petiole, pulvinus with deciduous tufts of erect trichomes on the adaxial side, very long inflorescence with many florescences, and longitudinally ridged ovary and capsule.
