Proceratophrys dibernardoi Brandão, Caramaschi, Vaz-Silva & Campos 2013 has recently been described and allocated into the P. cristiceps species group, but no information about its advertisement calls has been provided (Brandão et al. 2013). Here, we describe for the first time the advertisement calls of P. dibernardoi based on specimens from Central Brazil. We also expand P. dibernardoi´s geographic distribution by reporting a new population in the State of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, constituting the westernmost record for this species, and extending its known range approximately 330 km westward of the municipality of Aporé, State of Goiás (P. dibernardoi´s former westernmost record).

A better understanding of patterns of species distribution is critical to carrying out the ecological studies needed to develop more appropriate conservation plans. Here we present records for six bird species in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. Five of these species (Trogon rufus, Baryphthengus ruficapillus, Notharchus swainsoni, Synallaxis ruficapilla and Procnias nudicollis) are rare and their distribution range is still poorly understood; one species (Tyrannopsis sulphurea) was recorded for the first time in the state.

ABSTRACT The fungi diversity in Brazil is not fully known yet, mainly in Serra de Maracaju, which is located in the central portion of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul, in the center-western region of Brazil. Samples were taken from different phytophysiognomies of the Cerrado, the dominating biome of that region, in areas where Cerrado and pasture alternate, in the municipality of Corguinho. Of the species identified, 18 are new citations for Brazil, as they are not included in the List of Brazilian Flora (fungi), and 36 are recorded for the first time for [the State of] Mato Grosso do Sul. As a total, 62 species were collected in nine excursions during 2014 and 2015. Out of this total, 15 species are deemed edible, four are toxic, ten are medicinal, two are used in bioremediation processes, and one is bioluminescent, according to the literature.

The male of Aillutticus rotundus Galiano, 1987 is described for the first time and new records are presented from the states of Acre, Mato Grosso do Sul and São Paulo, Brazil. In addition, five new species of this genus are described from Brazil: A. knysakae sp. nov. from the states of Minas Gerais, Piauí and Tocantins, A. montanus sp. nov. from the state of Minas Gerais, A. raizeri sp. nov. from the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, A. soteropolitano sp. nov. from the state of Bahia, and A. viripotens sp. nov. from the states of Rondônia and Tocantins.

The four following Diptera families are peculiar because they are predominantly phytophagous: Cecidomyiidae, Agromyzidae, Lonchaeidae and Tephritidae; which is uncommon for dipterans. Tephritine’s larvae, depending on the species, consumes leaves, stems, flowers or roots of their host plants. Some tephritines feeds on flower heads of weed Asteraceae and can act in population suppression of invasive species in cultivated areas. In Mid-West of Brazil, we investigate Tephritinae and Agromyzinae flies in flower heads of Asteraceae species in three different phytophisiognomies in Dourados region, state of Mato Grosso do Sul. Here, 12 florivore fly species (9 Tephritinae, and 3 Melanagromyza spp., Agromizinae, Agromyzidae) are reported for the first time in Mid-West Brazil. We stablish the species of Asteraceae host for Tephritinae (Tephritidae) and for some species of Melanagromyza (Agromyzinae) in environments of Cerrado, Semideciduous Forest, and agroecosystem at Dourados-MS region. The inflorescences of Asteraceae species (± 500 capitula/species) were kept in containers to the emergence of the florivorous flies or their parasitoids. The adult insects after 48 hours were fixed in 80% ethanol for later identification. A total 36 species of Asteraceae were evaluated in the three regions of Dourados-MS, Brazil. Were obtained 120,031 flower heads of Astereceae, emerging 2,698 adults of insects: 833 Tephritinae (Tephritidae), belonging to 7 genera and 9 species; 1,089 Melanagromyza spp. (Agromyzidae) and 776 parasitoids (Hymenoptera) from the tephritines and agromyzines. We found that some florivore fly species needs to be better studied to employ in suppression programs of invasive Asteraceae population in the Neotropical Region.

The diversity of Leptogium has been underestimated in Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. Nine species are being reported for the first time to the state, including L. microcarpum, as new record to Brazil; and L. cyanizum, as new record to the American continent. Furthermore, L. hondae, L. moluccanum var. denticulatum and L. quilombensis are proposed as new to science. The first key to species of Leptogium is provided for this region, which can also be used for surrounding regions in Brazil.

The largest New World bat, Vampyrum spectrum, is a locally rare top predator, which occurs from Mexico to South America. Here, we report for the first time its occurrence in the southern Pantanal floodplain, basing our records on specimens that are also the first to be reported for the State of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. We conducted bat surveys in two sites 120 km apart, in the Aquidauana and Nhecolândia regions. Among 2,498 bat captures, two individuals of V. spectrum were mist-netted, one at each site. These records expand southward the distribution range of V. spectrum, and in addition to other records in the Northern Pantanal border and Bolivia support that V. spectrum is widely distributed in the upper Paraguay basin.
