Abstract A new genus and species of Leptophlebiidae, Fittkaulus maculatus, is described from male and female imagos, subimagos, and nymphs collected from streams of the eastern Guiana Shield, Pará State, Brazil. Association of life cycle stages is by rearing. Fittkaulus appears to be most closely related to Terpides Demoulin.

A new gall midge genus, Distinctamyia gen. nov., and a new species Distinctamyia matogrossensis sp. nov. (Diptera, Cecidomyiidae) are herein described and illustrated (larvae, pupal exuviae, male and female). The new species induces conical, green, hairy and one chambered galls on leaf and bud of Simarouba amara Aubl. (Simaroubaceae). Gall-inducer specimens, samples of gall and host plant were collected at Parque Nacional da Chapada dos Guimarães, in the state of Mato Grosso (Midwestern Brazil).

A new genus, Neuzina, is described from specimens collected in Brazil (Par ), Venezuela (Guarico) and Costa Rica (Guanacaste). The species Neuzina diminuta is described as the type species of the genus and based on the presence of the proepisternal seta and characters of male and female genitalia the genus is placed in the subfamily Sciomyzinae, tribe Sciomyzini.

AbstractPest control is easier and more effective when pests are correctly identified. The Black Parlatoria Scale, Parlatoria ziziphi (Lucas, 1853) (Hemiptera: Coccomorpha: Diaspididae) is an important invasive pest in citrus-growing countries. This diaspidid has historically been difficult to control, because its immature stages are difficult to identify due to confusion with similar Parlatoria species. No field descriptions of female or male developmental stages are available for P. ziziphi. We provide the first description of field characteristics of the developmental stages of P. ziziphi. Colonies were reared in the laboratory on sour orange plants and lemon fruits to illustrate the distinctive features of each instar. An illustrated field guide of all life-cycle stages of male and female P. ziziphi is provided for correct species identification and better pest management. This tool is designed to help recognize P. ziziphi in field-scouting programmes or quarantine inspections, without the need for taxonomic expertise in identifying the Parlatoria group.

SUMMARY Neospora caninum is a protozoan parasite of animals. Until 1988, it was misidentified as Toxoplasma gondii. Since its first recognition in dogs in 1984 and the description of the new genus and species Neospora caninum in 1988, neosporosis has emerged as a serious disease of cattle and dogs worldwide. Abortions and neonatal mortality are a major problem in livestock operations, and neosporosis is a major cause of abortion in cattle. Although antibodies to N. caninum have been reported, the parasite has not been detected in human tissues. Thus, the zoonotic potential is uncertain. This review is focused mainly on the epidemiology and control of neosporosis in cattle, but worldwide seroprevalences of N. caninum in animals and humans are tabulated. The role of wildlife in the life cycle of N. caninum and strategies for the control of neosporosis in cattle are discussed.

The Holarctic genus Agonochaetia is reviewed and a new species, Agonochaetia shawinigan Landry, sp. nov. is described from Québec, Canada. In addition, a new glandiductor-bearing genus and species, Canarischema fuerteventura Karsholt, gen. nov., sp. nov. is described from the Canary Islands. Comparative diagnoses, a key to species, illustrations of external aspect, male and female genitalia are provided for all species. Most species of Agonochaetia are rarely collected and known only from their types or from very few specimens. DNA barcodes are provided for four of the species from which DNA was recovered. Analysis of DNA barcodes suggests that Agonochaetia may be paraphyletic. Phylogenetic relationships to other Gnorimoschemini genera bearing a pair of glandiductors above the phallus are discussed.

A new leafhopper genus and species, Anzihelus bistriatus Yan & Yang, gen. nov. sp. nov. (Cicadellidae, Mileewinae, Mileewini) is described from Sichuan Province, China. Habitus images and figures of the male and female genitalia are provided together with a key to the genera of Mileewini from China.

A new genus and species, Australodindymus nigroruber gen. et sp. nov., is described from the Pilbara region of WesternAustralia based on male, female and 5th instar nymph. This endemic genus is related to the cosmopolitan genus, DindymusStål, 1861, but differs markedly in structure of both male and female genitalia, and is the first member of the Pyrrhocoridae recorded from Western Australia.

In 1892 P. J. van Beneden described and figured among some caligids from Africa and the Azores a new genus and species to which he gave the name Pupulina flores. He claimed to have found both sexes of the new parasite, but acknowledged that he had described as male and female of his species two copepods which had previously been designated by different names. They were found upon the same host, a devil-fish, and he believed that they were of the same species. In this, however, he was mistaken, for the specimen he described as the male was really a young female of an entirely different species. Owing to this mistake, together with the very imperfect description of both sexes, Bassett-Smith in 1899 denied the validity of the new genus and transferred Beneden's species to the well-known genus Lepeophtheirus. Following this lead the present author placed it in a key to the species of Lepeophtheirus published in 1905, and it has remained there up to the present time.
