ABSTRACT Objective: This study compared the color stability of different dental composite resins after prolonged exposure to a coffee solution. Methods: Sixty-four cylindrical discs (10 mm diameter x 2 mm thickness) were prepared using 8 different dental composite resins (n=8, per group). The specimens were first immersed in artificial saliva for 24 h followed by immersion in a coffee solution for 14 days. The assessment of chromatic variation (ΔE) was performed with the aid of a Vita Easyshade Advanced spectrophotometer (VITA Zahnfabrik, Bad Sackingen, Germany). The color of each specimen was calculated based on the L*, a* and b* coordinates of the CIELab system. Results: Grandio SO had the lowest average chromatic variation (ΔE=7.77) after immersion in coffee solution. Durafill VS, Grandio and Z350 XT (ΔE=8.58; ΔE=9.52; ΔE=10.39, respectively) showed similar chromatic variation, with no statistical difference in relation to Grandio SO. However, the other dental composite resins evaluated showed statistically higher values of ΔE compared to Grandio SO, and Enamel HRi (ΔE=20.56) demonstrated the highest chromatic variation. Conclusion: The Bulk Fill and hybrid composite resins from the same manufacturer (Micerium, Avegno, Italy) showed greater chromatic variation than the other composite resins tested. Grandio SO (Voco, Cuxaven, Germany) had the lowest ΔE variation.

Aim: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of solutions on the color stability of nanohybrid composite resins. Methods: The experimental sample consisted of 90 composite specimens (Beautifil II; Z350XT; Premisa), divided into three subgroups (n=10) according to the solutions (matte tea; lemon flavor isotonic drink; artificial saliva). The specimens were immersed in the solutions (5 mL/specimen) while stirring for 5 minutes, four times a day, with 1-hour intervals, repeated for 15 days. The color of the specimens was analyzed before (baseline) and after the 15th day of cycling using the CIELAB system. Data were analyzed using the two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey’s test (α=5%). Results: Different behaviors were observed among resins. Beautifil II presented the highest color change (∆E=4.18) and less color stability, statistically different from the others (p<.05). The solutions also presented different behaviors. The lemon flavor isotonic drink (∆E=3.95) promoted the highest color change, statistically different from saliva (∆E=2.75; p<.05). The interaction between Beautifil II and isotonic drink became even more evident and significant (p<.05). Conclusion: The isotonic drink is the solution that most affected the resins, and Beautifil II presents the worst color stability.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the microhardness Rockwell and Young s modulus of a new nano-hybrid and nano-fill composite resins exposed to corrosive media. The study was performed on two composite resins, one nano-hybrid and one nano-fill, enamel, dentine, translucent, respectively body shade, of which were made 20 samples (25.0 � 0.1 mm lengths, 10.0 � 0.1 mm widths and 3.0 � 0.1 mm thicknesses), which were immersed in mouthwash for 1 minute per day for 10 days, the rest of the time being stored in artificial saliva. Measurements of Rockwell microhardness and Young�s modulus on samples were made between on the first day, after 6 days and 10 days of immersion in mouthwash comparative with 0 day. The results showed that after immersion in the corrosive environment, both materials had the hardness values changed, but medium values of Rockwell microhardness to nano-fill composite resin were higher than nano-hybride. At the nano-hybride composite resin, it was observed that the enamel and clear translucent groups had the mean values increased after the first day of exposure to mouthwash, compared to the dentine group, which showed a higher mean value after 6 days. At the nano-fill composite resin, for the enamel and body groups were obtained the higher values of HRC after 10 days. For the dentine group, after 6 days, Filtek Ultimate showed the same variation as Harmonize dentine shade. Harmonize composite resin showed higher values of Rockwell microhardness and Young�s modulus for all study groups compared to Filtek Ultimate.

This in vitro study analyses the biochemical interaction between saliva and three types of dental composite resins (a direct resin, an indirect resin and a dual-cure resin used for cementation of indirect dental restorations). The resin samples were obtained following a specific protocol and in line with the producers� recommendations; the resin samples were incubated with saliva samples collected from 19 healthy volunteers. The obtained results showed that the tested composite resins did not produce significant changes in oxidative stress parameters that were analysed (albumin, uric acid, GGT / gamma glutamyl transferase, OXSR-1 / oxidative stress responsive kinase 1) and do not influence the inflammatory salivary status reflected by the levels of IL-6 - an inflammatory marker.

AbstractThis study evaluated the influence of fluoride mouth rinses and repolishing on the superficial morphology and color stability of nanofilled resin. About 150 specimens were prepared and polished using aluminum oxide discs for 15 s with a pressure of 2 kg. The experimental groups were divided according to the immersion medium (artificial saliva, 0.5% sodium fluoride, Fluordent Reach, Oral B, Fluorgard) and repolishing procedure (without and with). The specimens were continuously immersed for 1 week. Thereafter, half of each sample was repolished. A color reading was performed after 24 h of immersion in the artificial saliva baseline, after continuous immersion, and after repolishing. The superficial morphology was examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) in a qualitative way. Color change (∆E) data were submitted to a mixed analysis of variance using a Shapiro–Wilk test (p>0.05 for the different immersion media) and Sidak’s test (p<0.05 for the differences between groups). In the interaction between the repolishing and the immersion media, Fluorgard showed a statistical difference between the ∆E values with and without repolishing (p<0.0001). On the SEM observations, both Fluordent Reach and Fluorgard caused degradation of the superficial resinous matrix of the composite after continuous immersion. This matrix was removed after repolishing.
