A New Species

A new Neotropical species of Pirhosigma Giordani Soika, 1978 is described, Pirhosigma transfluvium Ferreira & Oliveira. The male of Pirhosigma limpidum Giordani Soika, 1978 is reported for the first time. An illustrated identification key is presented for all currently recognized species of Pirhosigma.

A New Species

Ogcodes Latreille is the largest genus of Acroceridae. They exhibit a cosmopolitan distribution and parasitize several spider families. Eleven Neotropical species are currently recognized in the genus, with five of them occurring in Chile, though distribution data is limited in this group of rarely collected flies. In this work, we describe a new species, Ogcodes kunkunche sp. nov. Barahona-Segovia from the evergreen forest of Chiloé Island, provide an identification key to the Chilean species of Ogcodes, and include novel distributional data for other species of spider flies (Acrocerinae and Ogcodinae). Based in our results, we suggest that O. kunkunche sp. nov. must be incorporated in the porteri group, due to wing vein reduction. Morphological aspects within Ogcodes, and their evolutionary implications are discussed.

A New Species

A new species belonging to genus Xenylla Tullberg, 1869 from Peru is described and illustrated. The new species, Xenylla gwiazdowiczi sp. nov., can be distinguished from previously described Xenylla species by combination of the following characters: mucro separated from dens, presence of complete row of setae c on dorsal side of the head, four thick sensilla on antennal segment IV, 19,19,18 setae on tibiotarsi of legs I–III, slightly serrated setae on abdominal segments V–VI, presence of two weakly clavate tenent hairs on each leg. The new species resembles X. spinosissima Najt & Rubio, 1978 and X. humicola (Fabricius, 1780). Similarities between them have been discussed. An identification key to Neotropical species of the genus is provided.

Nilotanypus yanomami sp. n. was collected at madicolous system in a mountainous region of northern Amazonia. Dichotomius (Dichotomius) quadrilobatus new species (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Scarabaeinae: Dichotomiini), from western Amazonia (Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru) is described and its putative systematic position within the Dichotomius boreus species group is discussed. Ferulago akpulatii (Apiaceae) is described as a new species endemic to Central Anatolia, Turkey. It is closely related to Ferulago platycarpa and F. pauciradiata, and is easily distinguished by its cauline leaf shape, inflorescence type, and fruit features. The main morphological differences between Ferulago akpulatii and related taxa are discussed, and the diagnostic characteristics, including the anatomical features of fruits, are given in detail. An identification key of Ferulago akpulatii and the morphologically closer species is also provided.
