Type specimens of some of Caporiacco's Neotropical species are revised. The taxonomy of his species from French Guiana, whose type specimens are lost, is considered. The types of Corythalia hadzji Caporiacco, 1947, Corythalia luctuosa Caporiacco 1954, Hypaeus barromachadoi Caporiacco, 1947 and Naubolus melloleitaoi Caporiacco, 1947 are redescribed.The following new synonymies are established: Freya guianensis Caporiacco,1947 = Chira spinipes (Taczanowski, 1871) syn. nov.; Hypaeus bivittatus Caporiacco, 1947 = Hypaeus barromachadoi Caporiacco, 1947 syn. nov. Papagona Ball, 1935 was originally described based on two species from the USA (Arizona). Both species of Papagona (P. papoosa Ball, 1935, type species of genus, and P. succinea Ball, 1935) are redescribed herein based on type specimens, including their previously unknown internal male genitalia. A new species from Brazil (Roraima) is described herein including the male and female terminalia. A taxonomic key to all included species is provided and additional diagnostic characters for this genus are proposed.

We propose a revision of the spider genus Corythalia C.L. Koch, 1850 (Salticidae: Euophryini) with a revised genus diagnosis based on examination of all species available to us. In this paper we redescribe all previously described species from South America with revised species diagnoses and describe 20 new species from South America (and the nearby islands). For C. latipes, the type species of the genus Corythalia, a neotype is designated. In total, 52 nominal species of the genus are herein treated, 46 species are recognized as valid. The females of C. waleckii Taczanowski, 1871, C. luctuosa Caporiacco, 1954 and C. latipes (C.L. Koch, 1846) are described for the first time. Corythalia sellata Simon, 1901, erroneously considered as nomen nudum in the present version of the World Spider Catalog, is here recognised as a valid species. Corythalia fulgipedia Crane, 1948 is also considered a valid species and is removed from the synonymy of C. tropica (Mello-Leitão, 1939). One name is considered a nomen dubium (Corythalia variegata Caporiacco, 1954), two are nomina nuda (C. major Simon, 1901; C. dimidiata Simon, 1901). Two species are transferred to other genera: C. argyrochrysos (Mello-Leitão, 1946) to Pachomius Peckham & Peckham, 1896 as Pachomius argyrochrysos (Mello-Leitão, 1946), comb. nov. and C. heliophanina (Taczanowski, 1871) to Neonella Gertsch, 1936, as Neonella heliophanina (Taczanowski, 1871), comb. nov. under incertae sedis. One species is synonymised: C. barbipes (Mello-Leitão, 1939) is a junior synonym of C. cincta (Badcock, 1932), syn. nov. The new Corythalia species are: C. conferta sp. nov. (♂♀, Brazil), C. concinna sp. nov. (♀, Brazil), C. drepane sp. nov. (♂♀, Brazil), C. drepanopsis sp. nov. (♀, Brazil), C. antepagmenti sp. nov. (♂♀, Brazil), C. ricti Bayer, sp. nov. (♂, Guyana), C. protensa sp. nov. (♂, Brazil), C. gasnieri sp. nov. (♂, Brazil), C. verhaaghi sp. nov. (♀, Brazil), C. scutellaris Bayer, sp. nov. (♂♀, Ecuador), C. dakryodes Bayer, sp. nov. (♀, Colombia), C. foelixi Bayer, sp. nov. (♂♀, French Guiana), C. longiducta sp. nov. (♀, Brazil), C. latior sp. nov. (♂, Bolivia), C. trochophora Bayer, sp. nov. Pothea carpinteroi sp. nov. (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Reduviidae: Ectrichodiinae) is described based on two male specimens from Mexico. Pothea aeneonitens Stål, 1864 and P. lugens (Fabricius, 1803) are recorded from French Guiana for the first time. Taxonomical notes on these latter two species and P. haematogaster Breddin, 1903 and P. sanguiniventris Miller, 1956 are also presented. A lectotype is designated for P. lugens. Pothea centralis Walker, 1873, treated as a junior synonym of P. lugens by previous authors, is regarded as a potentially valid species. Color variation in the sternites of males and females of P. frontalis (Lepeletier & Serville, 1825) are recorded for the first time. Photographs of the type specimens of P. aeneonitens, P. bivittata Champion, 1899, P. centralis, P. frontalis, P. haematogaster, P. halffteri Carpintero, 1980, P. lugens, P. maculata Champion, 1899, P. reyesi Carpintero, 1980, P. sanguiniventris and P. venatrix Hussey, 1953, are presented.

Based on molecular evidence and morphological analyses, a new species in the genus Trametopsis is revealed. Trametopsis aborigena sp. nov. is proposed and described from South America. Molecular phylogenetic analyses of ITS and LSU rDNA sequences suggest that Trametopsis cervina seems to encompass more than one species and confirm previous results showing that Antrodiella brasiliensis groups with Trametopsis. The morphological analyses of type specimens of A. brasiliensis and A. luteocontexta revealed a shared morphological pattern with Trametopsis and their combinations in Trametopsis are proposed. The circumscription of Trametopsis is discussed since all the studied specimens revealed a previously overlooked arrangement of characters, i.e., cylindrical and slightly curved to allantoid basidiospores and a metachromatic hyphal system monomitic in the context and dimitic in the tubes.

Platydoras brachylecis, new species, is described from coastal drainages of northeastern Brazil (Pindaré to Parnaíba rivers), and diagnosed from congeners by the unique combination of: pale yellow to white stripe beginning above orbits, continuing midlaterally on body and onto middle rays of caudal fin; skin in axil of each midlateral thorn without concentration of pigment forming small dark spot, midlateral scutes shallow (depth of 10th scute 8.8-11.9% of SL), and midlateral scutes on caudal peduncle distinctly separated by strip of skin from middorsal and midventral caudal-peduncle plates. Three additional species of Platydoras are recognized as valid: P. armatulus (lower Orinoco, Amazon and Paraguay-Paraná drainages), P. costatus (coastal drainages of Suriname and French Guiana), and P. hancockii (upper Orinoco, Negro, Essequibo and Demerara drainages). The nominal species P. dentatus and P. helicophilus are tentatively treated as junior synonyms of P. costatus. A key to species of Platydoras is provided.

The genus Parequula, which has long been considered monotypic, is reviewed with a new species described fromsouthwestern Australia on the basis of 21 types and 17 non-type specimens (42–81 mm in standard length); its onlycongener, P. melbournensis (Castelnau), is also redescribed. Parequula elongata n. sp. differs from P. melbournensis inhaving a more slender body, a lower soft anal-fin ray count (14–15, mode 15 vs. 16–18, mode 17), a lower pored lateral-line scale count (34–35, mode 34 vs. 37–40, mode 38), and the dorsal fin with a reddish upper margin when fresh (vs.semi-translucent to bluish with a narrow, parallel, yellowish vertical line on each fin membrane and a yellowish fin marginin P. melbournensis). Furthermore, the head profile of P. elongata n. sp. is nearly straight to slightly convex, whereas P.melbournensis is distinctly concave in outline above the eyes. Nominal species (junior synonyms) of P. melbournensis are discussed and a key to the two species is also provided.

AbstractA new species of ascaridoid nematode, Hysterothylacium anguillae sp. n. (family Anisakidae), is described based on specimens recovered from the stomach and intestine of the giant mottled eel Anguilla marmorata Quoy et Gaimard from the Mngazi River, South Africa, collected in March–April 2011. It is characterized mainly by poorly developed lateral alae, a very short intestinal caecum and a long ventricular appendix, spicules 1.11–2.14 mm long (representing 5.2–5.8 % of body length), number of caudal papillae (19–21 pairs of preanals, 2 adanals and 5 postanals), presence of a median precloacal papilla (= ventromedian organ), tail tips of both sexes covered by minute spines, and by the shape and structure of lips. This is the first nominal species of Hysterothylacium described from an African freshwater fish and the second species of this genus reported from freshwater eels of the family Anguillidae. The following Indian congeneric species are considered species inquirendae: Hysterothalacium aetobathum Lakshmi, 2005, H. carutti Lakshmi, Rao et Shyamasundari, 1993, H. channai Lakshmi, 1995, H. fossillii Lakshmi, 1996, H. japonicum Rajialakshmi, 1996, H. kiranii Lakshmi, 1993, H. longicaecum Lakshmi, Rao et Shyamansundari, 1993, H. narayensis Lakshmi, 1997, H. nellorensis Lakshmi, 1996, H. neocornutum Rajialakshmi, Rao et Shyamasundari, 1992 and H. punctati Lakshmi, 1995. Of them, H. japonicum and H. neocornutum are transferred to Iheringascaris Pereira, 1935 as I. japonica (Rajialakshmi, 1996) comb. n. and I. neocornuta (Rajialakshmi, Rao et Shyamasundari, 1992) comb. n.

A new species of Myloplus Gill is described from Eastern Tumucumaque Mountain Range, drainages of the Oyapock and Araguari rivers between Brazil and French Guiana. The new species is diagnosed by having comparatively large scales on the flanks, resulting in lower counts when compared with congeners, i.e., 59 to 70 total perforated scales on lateral line, 31 to 35 longitudinal scales above lateral line, 24 to 29 longitudinal scales below lateral line, and 22 to 26 circumpeduncular scale rows. The new species most closely resembles Myloplus rubripinnis by sharing with this species a general rounded shape, a similar color pattern, and a high number of rays, i.e., 23 to 25 branched dorsal-fin rays and 35 to 38 branched anal-fin rays in the new species (vs. 24 to 25 and 32 to 40, respectively, in M. rubripinnis). After reviewing the available type-specimens of all Myloplus species, M. rubripinnis is re-diagnosed as having higher counts of branched dorsal-fin rays and anal-fin rays combined to tiny scales on flanks, i.e., 85 to 89 total perforated scales on lateral line, 38 to 45 longitudinal scales above lateral line, 33 to 42 longitudinal scales below lateral line, and 30 to 39 circumpeduncular scale rows.

Context – The species of Psychotria subgen. Heteropsychotria have recently been transferred to Palicourea, following the results of molecular studies showing that they form a monophyletic group with the latter. This paper presents a conspectus of Palicourea sect. Potaroenses (formerly Psychotria subgen. Heteropsychotria sect. Potaroenses), discusses the characters of the section, and provides a key to the species. A new species recently collected in French Guiana is described and illustrated, and one new combination is included.Methods – This paper is based on direct study of herbarium material from BR, CAY, F, K, L, NY, U and US, and additional type specimens from F, K, MO, P, RB, and VEN were consulted online. Two of the species, including the new one, have also been studied in the field. Common practices of herbarium taxonomy have been applied.Results – Palicourea sect. Potaroenses is characterized by the capitate inflorescences surrounded by an involucre of 4–20 elliptic, yellow to red bracts, the leaves with lateral veins strongly ascending and almost reaching the margin, the long tubular calyx, the unusually long corolla tube for the genus, and the peculiar stipules, consisting of an internal sheath and two interpetiolar pieces connate to the sheath by their central part. The section includes eight species: Palicourea aetantha (Sandwith) Delprete & J.H.Kirkbr., P. fanshawei (Standl.) Delprete & J.H.Kirkbr., P. formosissima (Steyerm.) Delprete & O.Lachenaud, P. phaneroneura (Standl.) Borhidi, P. potaroensis (Sandwith) Delprete & J.H.Kirkbr., P. psittacina (Steyerm.) Delprete & J.H.Kirkbr., P. spectabilis (Steyerm.) Borhidi, and the new species P. aurantiosplendens O.Lachenaud & Delprete. The latter is most similar to P. psittacina, from which it can be separated by the dense patent indumentum of the stems, calyx lobes, and inner side of the bracts, and the smaller size of the latter; it also resembles P. spectabilis and P. formosissima, but differs in having the stipules with four lobes on each side (vs. two), the bracts nearly glabrous outside (vs. densely hirsute on both sides) and the calyx lobes much more pubescent than the tube (vs. the calyx uniformly hairy). It is only known from a small area on the upper Sinnamary River, north-central French Guiana, and is evaluated as Endangered (EN D1) according to IUCN criteria.
