The purpose of this retrospective study was to report the occurrence of lateral patellar luxation in poodles. The animals were referred to the Orthopedics Service of the Veterinary Hospital, Faculdade de Ciências Agrárias e Veterinárias, - Jaboticabal Campus, São Paulo, Brazil, twelve client-owned poodles, seven females and five males poodles ranging in age from three to nine months. Clinical examination showed lameness, pain and deformities of the affected limbs. Surgical trochleoplasties were performed with medial retinacular overlap and medial tibial tuberosity transposition. The animals recovered their normal activity within a period of one to two weeks after surgery. Although this was a rarely occurring pathological condition in poodles, surgical repair was easy to execute because of its similarity to correction of medial patellar luxation. Lateral patellar luxation in small dogs is rare and, when present, is of congenital origin, at times progressing to marked functional impotence of the affected limbs.

Canine rangeliosis is an extravascular hemolytic disease caused by the protozoan Rangelia vitalii, which is transmitted by ticks of the species Amblyomma aureolatum. Te most common clinical signs are apathy, hyperthermia and spontaneous bleeding. Anemia and thrombocytopenia are the most common hematological fndings. Tis work reports a clinical case of canine Rangeliosis treated at a private veterinary hospital, in São Paulo city in 2017. A dog was treated at a veterinary hospital in the north of São Paulo, with progressive weight loss, apathy and tail injury. Anemia and thrombocytopenia were observed on the hemogram. Rangelia vitalii DNA was detected in animal blood by real-time PCR (qPCR). In addition to the supportive treatment, doxycycline and subcutaneous imidocarb applications were used. Te sample collected afer treatment with the antibiotic continued to present protozoal DNA. Te disease should be considered as a diferential diagnosis and there is a great need for further studies about the therapy used.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to analyze the Ethical Conciliation Hearings held by the Regional Nursing Council of São Paulo. Methods: this is a retrospective study, of a quantitative approach, with documentary analysis. To obtain the data, documents related to ethical processes were analyzed. The time frame established for the study was from January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2017. Results: 513 Ethical Conciliation Hearings were held and ratified. Nurses represent the category that most denunciate and are most accused. The highest percentages of ethical conciliations were in events related to public and hospital institutions. The Conduct Adjustment Term was the modality with the highest number of agreements. The main reason of conciliation failure was the non-attendance of at least one of the parties. Conclusions: the Ethical Conciliation Hearings represent an effective alternative instrument for the resolution of ethical-disciplinary processes in nursing.

Abstract Background In Brazil, inequalities in access may interfere with cancer care. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of race on breast cancer mortality in the state of São Paulo, from 2000 to 2017, contextualizing with other causes of death. Methods A population-based retrospective study using mortality rates, age and race as variables. Information on deaths was collected from the Ministry of Health Information System. Only white and black categories were used. Mortality rates were age-adjusted by the standard method. For statistical analysis, linear regression was carried out. Results There were 60,940 deaths registered as breast cancer deaths, 46,365 in white and 10,588 in black women. The mortality rates for 100,000 women in 2017 were 16.46 in white and 9.57 in black women, a trend to reduction in white (p = 0.002), and to increase in black women (p = 0.010). This effect was more significant for white women (p < 0.001). The trend to reduction was consistent in all age groups in white women, and the trend to increase was observed only in the 40–49 years group in black women. For ‘all-cancer causes’, the trend was to a reduction in white (p = 0.031) and to increase in black women (p < 0.001). For ‘ill-defined causes’ and ‘external causes’, the trend was to reduce both races (p < 0.001). Conclusion The declared race influenced mortality rates due to breast cancer in São Paulo. The divergences observed between white and black women also were evident in all cancer causes of death, which may indicate inequities in access to highly complex health care in our setting.

Objective The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of ectopic eruption of intranasal teeth. Design This was a retrospective study, where records of children with repaired cleft lip and palate were analyzed. Setting The study was conducted at a large craniofacial center, the Hospital for Rehabilitation of Craniofacial Anomalies, USP, Bauru, São Paulo, Brazil. Subjects The sample consisted of 815 records from patients with bilateral cleft lip and palate (BCLP) and 1495 records from patients with unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP). The age of the subjects was 5 to 10 years old and the groups included both males and females. Results The results showed that 0.61% of the children with BCLP and 0.40% of those with UCLP had an intranasal tooth. The prevalence of an intranasal tooth for the whole group was 0.48%, and it appeared to be more common in females.
