Despite significant advances in the treatment and rehabilitation of stroke, level of post-stroke disability remains at a fairly high level. Recent innovative developments in the rehabilitation of these patients provide good results in terms of functional outcome. One of such developments is method of virtual reality (VR), which affects not only the speed and volume of regaining movement, as well as coordination, but also normalizes the psycho-emotional background, increasing the motivation of patients to improve the recovery process. This article provides a literature review of the use of the VR method in the rehabilitation of post-stroke patients, neurophysiological aspects of recovery of lost functions using this method are considered.

The effect of complex rehabilitation in patients with post-stroke syndrome after complex treatment, including operative treatment, chemotherapy and radiation therapy, was studied. Electrosleep in combination with normobaric hypoxic therapy significantly improved the condition of patients and can be a method of choosing the tactics of treatment of patients of this profile. The effectiveness of the treatment was 91%. The method contributes to a more prolonged remission of the disease and gives grounds to talk about the need for repeated courses of therapy with a frequency of no more than 2 times a year.

Pain management is a foreground task of physicians specializing in various disciplines. Special attention is paid to the issues of early comprehensive rehabilitation of post-stroke patients and prophylaxis of probable long-term complications related to injuries of different brain structures.Post-stroke thalamic syndrome is the most frequent multiform complication that requires multidisciplinary efforts. Understanding of the morbid physiology of pain thalamic syndrome is the cornerstone of successful management providing higher quality of patients’ life. Currently, profound changes have taken place in the prophylaxis, diagnosis, and management of post-stroke thalamic syndrome. This review highlights the most common types of pain experienced by patients after thalamic stroke, presents morbid physiological mechanisms of pain development depending on the location of ischemic brain injury, and discusses the issues of up-to-date management and rehabilitation of post-stroke thalamic syndrome patients.

Abstract. Cognitive rehabilitation is an important area of neurological rehabilitation, which aims at the treatment of cognitive disorders due to acquired brain damage of different etiology, including stroke. Although the importance of cognitive rehabilitation for stroke survivors is well recognized, available cognitive treatments for neuropsychological disorders, such as spatial neglect, hemianopia, apraxia, and working memory, are overall still unsatisfactory. The growing body of evidence supporting the potential of the transcranial Electrical Stimulation (tES) as tool for interacting with neuroplasticity in the human brain, in turn for enhancing perceptual and cognitive functions, has obvious implications for the translation of this noninvasive brain stimulation technique into clinical settings, in particular for the development of tES as adjuvant tool for cognitive rehabilitation. The present review aims at presenting the current state of art concerning the use of tES for the improvement of post-stroke visual and cognitive deficits (except for aphasia and memory disorders), showing the therapeutic promises of this technique and offering some suggestions for the design of future clinical trials. Although this line of research is still in infancy, as compared to the progresses made in the last years in other neurorehabilitation domains, current findings appear very encouraging, supporting the development of tES for the treatment of post-stroke cognitive impairments.
