Background:Physical activity (PA) counseling is becoming commonplace in primary care settings, although there is a high degree of variation in the quality and quantity of this intervention. The purpose of this review was to examine the theory on which the intervention is based and the level of treatment fidelity applied at all stages of the intervention.Methods:A systematic review was carried out for interventions that reported an element of PA counseling. Results were mapped according to a treatment fidelity framework of intervention design, training, delivery, receipt, and enactment.Results:Most studies were underpinned by the transtheoretical model. Few studies described the frequency or duration of PA counseling training or competence level of the interventionist. The most common outcome measures were behavioral and physiological, with few studies including a cognitive outcome measure.Conclusions:Most research focuses on outcome and significance rather than intervention processes, with limited consideration of treatment fidelity. The design, training, delivery, and receipt of PA counseling should be reported more thoroughly.

Background: It is necessary to understand behaviours that contribute to improvement in the quality of end-of-life care; use of behavioural theories allows identification of factors underlying end-of-life care behaviour, but little is known about the extent to which, and in what manner, these theories are used in an end-of-life care research context. Aim: To assess the number of end-of-life care studies that have used behavioural theories, which theories were used, to what extent main constructs were explored/measured and which behavioural outcomes were examined. Design: We conducted a systematic review. The protocol was registered on PROSPERO (CRD42016036009). Data sources: The MEDLINE (PubMed), PsycINFO, EMBASE, Web of Science and CINAHL databases were searched from inception to June 2017. We included studies aimed at understanding or changing end-of-life care behaviours and that explicitly referred to individual behavioural theories. Results: We screened 2231 records by title and abstract, retrieved 43 full-text articles and included 31 studies – 27 quantitative (of which four (quasi-)randomised controlled trials) and four qualitative – for data extraction. More than half used the Theory of Planned Behaviour (9), the Theory of Reasoned Action (4) or the Transtheoretical Model (8). In 9 of 31 studies, the theory was fully used, and 16 of the 31 studies focussed on behaviours in advance care planning. Conclusion: In end-of-life care research, the use of behavioural theories is limited. As many behaviours can determine the quality of care, their more extensive use may be warranted if we want to better understand and influence behaviours and improve end-of-life care.

Introdução: O estudo sobre o álcool tem aumentado em todo o mundo devido ao seu impacto social e econômico, e as doenças relacionadas ao uso de álcool estarem entre os distúrbios mais comuns de abuso de substâncias. Desta forma, faz-se necessário investigar os métodos mais eficazes e adequados de tratamento para diferentes populações. Método: Este trabalho analisou a literatura científica sobre o Modelo Transteórico de Mudança de Comportamento relacionados ao consumo de álcool. Foram consultadas as bases de dados Scopus, PubMed, PsycINFO, PepsiCo e Lilacs, utilizando os descritores transtheoretical model, transtheoretical approach, stages of change, processes of change e cycle of change cruzado com o descritor alcoholism, no período de dez anos (2001 a 2011). Principais resultados: A maioria das pesquisas encontradas utilizavam métodos longitudinais e quantitativos, além de uma prevalência no uso dos questionários Readiness to Change Questionnaire e University of Rhode Island Change Assessment utilizados na mensuração do ModeloTransteórico. Os resultados indicaram que outras variáveis podem influenciar o comportamento do indivíduo em relação à sua fase de mudança de comportamento e identificou problemas relacionados ao uso de álcool em pacientes que procuravam tratamento para outras condições de saúde. Esta constatação reforça a necessidade de práticas de triagens para a prevenção dos agravos relacionados ao uso de álcool.Implicações: O modelo Transteórico é importante no processo de mudança de comportamento, uma vez que permite a identificação dos estágios e a escolha de intervenções mais adequadas ao estágio do paciente, além de evitar que esforços sejam feitos na direção contrária à necessidade do usuário. Conclusão: Ressalta-se a necessidade de mais estudos na área, especialmente em relação às práticas de profissionais de saúde.

Introduction: Cervical cancer is the second most prevalent cancer worldwide among women and is also the second primary cause of cancer-induced mortalities among women at a global scale. The most effective educational programs are based on theoretical approaches derived from behavior change models. The present systematic review aimed to explore and identify the body of research with educational interventions based on a particular behavioral or cognitive model of cervical cancer. Methods: A number of keywords were search in the following databases: PubMed, Web of Science, Science Direct, Google Scholar, Embase, Scopus, Biomedcentral, IranMedex, SID and Magiran. These keywords were: Cervix cancer, uterine cervical neoplasms, screening, prevention and control, Papaniocolaou Test, Pap test, Pap smear, education, intervention, cervical cancer, theory and model, behavior model. The search time span was restricted to 2005 to 2020. Results: From among all the published academic papers with educational interventions, finally 22 papers were selected based on a particular theory or model. Among these papers, those based on the health belief model outnumbered the rest concerning cervical cancer. The Transtheoretical Model (TTM) model was the second most prevalent model adopted in the theory-based educational interventions. Conclusions: Educational interventions based on the behavioral theory or model showed to be effective on the target group concerning screening (secondary behavior) for cervical cancer. To further increase the effectiveness of the educational interventions, there is a need for a combination of new methods and theory-laden education to enhance the primary preventive behaviors of cervical cancer.
