Doors and windows of the building is an important part of the building envelope. AS the transparent and open envelope of the building, doors and windowsare the weakest part in the winter and summer heat preservation. It directly affects the energy performance of buildings. Therefore, do a good job of building doors and windows energy saving is an important way to optimize the indoor environment and realize energy saving.

Aim: The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of physical activity and indoor environment on preschool children’s health. Subject and Methods: The final sample comprised 126 parents of children of preschool age. An anonymous questionnaire was used in order to investigate the impact of indoor air pollution on the children's health. Data analysis was performed by using descriptive statistics and cross-tabulations with the SPSS 22.0. Results: The majority of the parents were female (87.3%) at an average age of 31-40 years (73%). Regarding the children, there were an almost equal number of boys and girls and their age ranged between 3 and 6 years old. The children had not shown any signs of emotional or behavioural problems or other issues regarding regular physical functions and they hadn’t shown any problems regarding recreational activities and interaction with friends (90.5%). Cough is a frequent symptom in the case of a common cold (85.7%). There were no statistically significant differences in the parents' responses as far as their children's health dimensions, concerning the availability of an air conditioner at home, the existence of pets and smoking habits in the family environment. Conclusions: Improving air quality is an extremely complicated issue, since pollutants may be created both indoors and outdoors, which makes it very difficult to decrease them. Yet it still is definitely necessary, given the negative effects of pollution on human health, especially on the more vulnerable groups, such as children.

Throughout history, it has always been recognised that the spaces in-between in dwellings have the advantage of working as environmental buffer spaces. The aim of this paper is to provide a literature review of the different spaces in-between in dwellings – balconies, shaded balconies and glazed balconies - and their impacts on comfort and on energy performance. The effects of the spaces in-between depend on their design, on the characteristics of the buildings and on the surroundings. They have important impacts on the four factors that contribute to the indoor environmental quality: thermal comfort, lighting comfort, acoustic comfort and indoor air quality. These factors are interrelated and the lack of balance between them can lead to poor indoor environmental conditions and to excessive energy consumption. Based on the review, a synthesis of the key environmental parameters that can be used as indicators for those factors is established. The impacts of spaces in-between on the factors and sub-factors of indoor environment are defined, considering different climatic regions. A holistic approach that conciliates all the above-mentioned factors should be a contribution to the design of spaces in-between in both new construction and rehabilitation projects, in order to achieve better indoor environment with minimum energy consumption.

The presented study is focused on the verification of a Building Environmental Assessment System (BEAS). A total of 13 detached family houses representing typical construction sites in Slovakia were chosen for analysis, evaluation and certification by using a BEAS which contains several main fields: A—Site Selection and Project Planning; B—Building Construction; C—Indoor Environment; D—Energy Performance; E—Water Management; and F—Waste Management. The results of this study show that the current construction method for family houses does not respect the criteria of sustainable construction as much as it possibly can. The reason for this is that investment costs for construction are prioritized over environmental and social aspects. Therefore, one house with a score of 1.10 is certified as BEAS BRONZE, ten family houses with scores of 1.56–2.88 are certified as BEAS SILVER and only two family houses with total scores of 3.59 and 3.87, respectively, are certified as BEAS GOLD. The overall results show that the weakest fields of sustainability are Waste management, Energy performance and Building construction. The best-rated fields are Site Selection and Project Planning, Indoor Environment and Water Management. In the future, it is essential to pay attention to those areas where the sustainability criteria have not been reached, as well as to raise project teams’ awareness of sustainability issues and subsequently to transfer them to building practices.
