Abstract Background Management of traumatic bone void associated with Gustilo IIIB open fractures is challenging. Gentamicin eluting synthetic bone graft substitute (Cerament-G) had been recently utilised for the management of patients with these injuries. This study aims to assess radiological signs of Cerament-G remodelling. Method Retrospective data analysis of all patients admitted to our unit with IIIB open fractures who had Cerament-G applied as avoid filler. Postoperative radiographic images of the fracture site at 6-weeks, 3-months, 6-months and at the last follow-up were reviewed. The radiological signs of Cerament-G integration, percent of void healing, and bone cortical thickness at the final follow-up were assessed. Results 34 patients met our inclusion criteria, mean age: 42 years. Mean follow-up time was 20 months. 59% of patients had excellent (>90%) void filling, 26.4% of patients had 50-90% void filling, and 14.6% had < 50% void filling. Normal bone cortical thickness was restored on AP and Lateral views in 55.8% of patients. No residual Cerement-G was seen on X-rays at the final follow-up in any of the patients. Conclusions Our results showed successful integration of Cerament-G with excellent void filling and normal cortical thickness achieved in more than half of the patients.

Introduction: With the increase of implant-supported rehabilitation, the cases of patients with peri-implantitis become more frequent. Objective: To report the treatment of peri-implantitis by associating techniques of surface decontamination and particulate bone graft. Case report: The treatment was carried through curettage of the granulation tissue, mechanical bone decontamination withbicarbonate jet, chemical decontamination with tetracycline solution, and particulate graft in the place of the bone defect. Conclusion: After 45 postoperative days, the peri-implant tissues were health without inflammation. After 6 postoperative months, the bone defect was repaired.

Purpose: Following far advancement of modern medicine and technology, functional disability in a certain type of sequelae of poliomyelitis may be effectively improved. Methods: Eight consecutive adult patients with unilateral sequelae of poliomyelitis were treated. These patients had shortened lower extremity of an average of 4.8 cm (range, 4.0–5.5 cm) in the lesion side. Muscle power of the ipsilateral knee was nearly intact (grade 4 or 5) but the ankle extension was completely flaccid. The tibia was osteotomized and lengthened with external fixation. Consequently, all external fixators were converted to plates supplemented with autogenous corticocancellous bone graft and bone graft substitute. Ankle arthrodesis was performed concomitantly. Results: Seven patients were followed up for an average of 3.7 years (range, 2.2–5.4 years). All seven lengthened sites healed with an average union time of 3.9 months (range, 3.5–4.5 months) after plating. One ankle infection occurred. Gait function significantly improved by modified Mazur scoring evaluation ( p = 0.02). At the latest follow-up, all patients had a minimal or unnoticed limp in level walking. Conclusion: The described combined techniques may be an excellent alternate for treating selected patients with sequelae of poliomyelitis. The procedure is not complex but the efficiency is extremely prominent.

This case report presents a treatment of peri-implantitis associated with a pre-existing pathology. Peri-implantitis around implant #19 was detected from pus discharge upon probing. Guided bone regeneration was performed to treat the peri-implantitis with the administration of antibiotics. The histopathologic evaluation of soft tissue taken from the circumferential defect around the implant exhibited a cyst. The postsurgical CBCT and the follow-up radiograph confirmed the maturing bone graft and a reduced size of the defect around the implant.
